    Reserved for IANA use is *not* the same as reserved for private use, as you mention. Why does it choose an arbitrary address instead of the RFC spec'd 10., 172.x, 192.168.x?

    I have also been most impressed by XFS *except* for one very annoying issue that makes me not trust it. When editing a file and the machine goes down, the contents of that file are zero-padded, and not at the place of editing or such, but the file gets filled with zeros. Any known fixes or resolution for this? Cause?

    Have you actually read most of the debian-generated man pages? They most often don't say anything more than "This man page written for Debian in order to comply with policy". If the program needs a manpage then write a good one, otherwise override the lintian check.

    My problem with Knoppix recently is that lvm* tools have been removed, so I can't activate my logical volumes.

    The largest problem isn't the current data that is often migrated, but static archived data that no one bothers to migrate, either because it's in "archive" or gets forgotten because no one uses it anymore.

    That's exactly what the parent said, not by moving to WPA[2], but rather by running a VPN/IPSec over the WEP link. I would consider this to be almost a better solution than solely WPA2 (without question VPN over WPA2 is the best solution). The VPN provides an additional, *alternate* security layer.

    I've recently purchased several of the RALink 2570 (USB) based adapters and they work fabulously. I personally bought the Gigabyte GN-WBKG and have been quite pleased. Good to see this hardware with full support from the manufacturer. For PCI cards they also have 2500 chipsets equally well supported.

    I have previously used movielink.com but it requires IE and alot of windows voodoo. The actual service I was quite impressed with, other than the slightly high prices.

    I would definitely be interested in this if it was more open, etc. (I realize that it's impossible to have them ship the *.vob files, but I would like some usability in the files. I want *my* definition of fair use, not Valenti's).

    I was surprised as can be just the other day when talking to my wife - she thought that MP3 files were not only as good as CDs, she honestly thought that an mp3 was better than a cd rip!

    I'm a linux fan, user, and admin - but I'm not for cheap shots simply for their own sake. Perhaps I'm missing the difference, but with no [full] changelog, that's essentially the same thing anyway.

    Why should they be expected to include services you'd like - they include "comparable" services for their solutions.

    AIM - you must be joking, we give you Windows Messenger (MSN is seperate)
    Firefox - IE

    Now, I'm far from a Microsoft fanboy, but your argument isn't very valid, as they shouldn't be expected to include client software for dealing with solutions other than theirs. Note that this is different from putting up barriers to OTHER solutions, they just shouldn't be expected to embrace or support them.

    Just a hunch that the gp was not referring to pressure of the sound waves themselves, but the foam/plastic/[other material] that must surround your entire ear for them to be effective. The "pressure" from those can indeed be quite irritating for long periods.

    And yet I (in the US) had a chip-based card for the past 5 years (Fusion from Fleet), and after the recent merger with Bank of America, they "upgraded" me automatically to a non-chip, plain jane card.... progress?

    This is a late post, so might never get seen, but I've been using Broadvoice for six months and have been as happy as can be. The ONLY con about their service is that the name on outgoing Caller-ID is not sent (the number is, however). Their E911 service is also "coming soon". I have a $9.95 in-state only plan, which is fabulous, and they also offer a $19.95 International unlimitied plan. I purchased a Sipura unit seperately, and they will provide SIP username and password upon request to use with Asterisk, or any generic SIP phone.

    I don't have any affiliation with them, just a very pleased user. (Course if you sign up with them because of this, let me know, I think I'll get a spiff)

    G.DMT DSL standard, which many (most?) DSL providers use has basically the same provisioningsetup as cable, i.e. a certain segment of wire frequency is reserved for upstream, then basically all the spectrum above it is used for downstream. Max upstream with G.DMT is 1 Mbps, while upstream can reach up to 8 I believe. I have my DSL through Qwest, and they offer 4 Mbps and 7Mbps circuits, but the max upstream on both is 1 Mbps.

    He wasn't talking about the tool itself, rather the "real time highlighting of the selected area" for the lasso. I'll admit, after reading his post, I checked it out and it is indeed a fairly slick feature visually, even if it doesn't add anythin functionally.

    If you are looking for such a script, try an "apt-cache show cron-apt", and then install it. It should be exactly what you're after. I use it myself on a number of different machines and have had great success with it.

    I tend to have better luck with memtest86+, especially on newer/odder systems. It was originally (still?) from the same codebase.

    I know that Digium sell their TDM400 cards with a single FXS module to terminate and plug a POTS phone into. I have also seen the single port FXO module PCI card, as well as some of the cheaper knock-offs (same chipset, less support) on ebay and at discount at $10-$30 dollars.

    I am looking to find a single port FXS module for a home telephony system that I can then plug standard pones into.

    Also, with the TDM400 module, is anyone familiar with the resistance of multiple phones and what the module supports? Would it be feasible to unplug my in-house wiring from the demarc, and patch it in so that the FXS card feeds multiple phones on the in-house wiring loop?
