i'm no expert in multiprocessing. but do i understand correctly that 1 system is currently served by a single core atm?
so a system is limited to what one cpu core can crunch?
couldn't you just then solve it with a virtual machine setup? e.g. replace the jita node with a 2 vmware ESX server setup, 2x8 cores each at 3ghz and you could easily assign about 100ghz of processing power to a single node.
therefor bypassing the need to make the python code multithreaded by leaving the job to virtualization.
i'm not a mac user vor very long, not even a year yet. after using linux and windows for more than 10 years but today you just download the apple dev tools, they're free. if you want to join their develops connection program then you would have to pay the same as when you want an msdn subscription when working as a windows developer.
"trust this code" ? huh i never meant that to force anyone into submitting their sources if they don't want to.
such a trust would require a full code review, doubtfully viable for anyone.
but like 100 USD / EUR for a proper address verification should be ok. nothing more nothing less.
While some developers might want to immigrate.
I wouldn't as well. But why do you think only US developers are allowed to use the App Store? That was just for the closed Beta.
And how do you know the pricing scheme of a purely theoretical Mac App store?
And if that said App Store would have free accounts for qualifying Open Source licenses, wouldn't that be enough?
Could you really trust a Closed Source application where the dev or company behind it wouldn't even pay a small membership fee (annual, one-time... whatever) just for authentication purposes and code signing?
Isn't that excactly the same stuff Microsoft talked about years ago and many ppl on slashdot cried "foul!" about it?
But then again it all makes sense for Apple. The iPhone's App Store pretty much does all that. And when it works out Apple might just start an Mac App Store. No executable program launchable if it doesn't originate from the App Store. Or only in some considered insecure sandboxed VM.
That could even work, but is that really what users want?
ssl certs are created for the hostname, ip-adresses are irrelevant.
only reason not to is because of the recurring costs and or processing power on the server side.
how can you do that? i thought you can only get it with an at&t plan?
i don't care about the edge driven internet connection or any overpriced data not-so-flatrate. i'd be happy to just use it as a cellphone with a normal plan and as a wlan connected ipod. sure i could buy an ipod touch and a cheap phone, but that'd be 2 devices to carry around.
maybe i should just wait a year or two until the hype is completely forgotten and they'll release some sort of "macphone pro".
these plans are with crippled downstream (to 64kbit) when reaching a traffic limit. and not even a phone flat of any sort. (not even inside their own network). and costs for sms and calls per minute are like 10 years ago.
goading the chinese? wth would the chinese have any interest in helping the myanmar/burma democratic movement? they would end up having the militray regime substituted with a communist leadership?
besides naming there isn't much of a difference. one has its dictator with a military rank the other has its dictator with the rank of leader of the communist party.
nothing that would do the people of myanmar any good. in fact it would get worse. so far the regime "just" sent soldiers to stop and shoot protestors while china typically sends tanks right away.
from my point of view there can only be a taxation for the transaction that actually involves real money. as far as you only play the game and earn and spend everything in-game there can be no tax. (you already paid taxes for the box and you pay VAT for the subscription.
the gold-selling for real money? hell they can charge a 1000% tax on it. i don't care at all. i never bought any game-money or game-items for real cash, and never will. as soon as i feel that real money spoils my personal gaming experience i quit that game.
there are casinos and the stock market to play with real money.
and btw. the use of heating oil ("Heizöl") in cars is forbidden because it has a reduced tax on it. so thats tax-fraud because the tax reduction is tied to the usage.
the only thing i could imagine would be the VAT reduction on veggie oil because it's food. (if it has the reduced tax at all, the law with that is impossible to comprehend and illogical).
but then again until s.th. like that becomes mainstream noone would care.
nope, i remember some feat on tv about a taxi driver that partnered up with some snackbar to "recycle" their used veggie oil they used for deep-frying. he had to filter it before use adn his passengers had to bear the intense smell. but after all he had near zero gas costs.
i for one do wait for leopard before getting my first mac ever. but i'm not just waiting to save the upgrade price but to save me from having to do an OS upgrade on a asystem i (yet) barely know.
and after all since i'll need boot camp for gaming i'm waiting for the final release before i bother setting up the whole stuff with an unsupported beta.
i will eventually put vista on it, but since i get all MS software for free from my employers MS partner program membership. my installation won't shift any numbers in the MS direction;)

or am i complety off?
NASA Scientist: Mr. President we have confirmed there is water in the martian soil!
Bush: What? The Martians have oil? Can we still extract the water to produce gasoiline?

sure it is, but i didn't start with making up Terms-Of-Service and pricings for something purely hypothetical.

After all it's a political party, and they must have more on their agenda than environmental and health issues.
Not every green party member can be minister for environment and/or health.
1/2 the size regarding landmass. i'm pretty sure the true (software) market size of the EU is larger when compared to the US.
try transmission for OS X

no they haven't.
:(
greedy bastards *wavingfisttowardscupertinoandtmobile*
399 euros as opposed to 399 USD which is currently less than 279 euros.
imagine the iphone would still cost 600 USD with plans ranging from 70-145 USD per months.
i would have got me one but not for this insane pricing.

or plug in a mighty mouse...
;)
then you can left click, right click, middle click, side click, scroll up, down, or left right.
and it still has just "one button"
it's at least some "sort of" multitouch
and heck, with the wireless bluetooth version you don't even need to actually "plug" it anywhere in.
can it be used to power a vibrator?

well i think it's perfectly legal in germany since our tax is named "mineral oil tax".
so it can't be applied to biodiesel at all.
ok, so they "ripped off" the concept of /. meta moderation ;)
sue them!
j/k
jiga what?
not "asserts"
it's "asses"! so i guess they borrowed their "bump-maps"

based on your criteria...
there can be only one -> Steve Ballmer, he (sort of) owns it and tells everyone (not necessarily the truth) that he likes it.
