Technology is one of the few fields that now offer careers that give a Middle Class life style, and generationally it is easier to move from Lower Class to Middle Class then to upper class in 3 generations. America is getting more diverse, laws and attitudes that discourage minorities from advancing will only mean in the next few generations America will be poor as well. Because poor people cannot buy as much stuff, If they cannot buy stuff then companies can't make money selling the stuff, so they lay off people who become poor.

Trickle down doesn't work, because the money will only go into saving money, while infusing the lower class will bring more customers.

Why Yes, there is a problem in the United States where Minority groups will often get less pay, be denied promotions and raises...
So by Adjusting salaries, they pay them what their actually work and title deserves.

They are a lot of crazy things that cause this and it isn't always direct discrimination.
    1. It is common for a new employer to Ask for your previous salary. So the disadvantaged groups will often report that they had made less at the previous job, if the get the job, they will have a raise, but it may be 10% more then their previous job. So if they are already making less the new job will pay less too.

    2. Being that a person is different then the management, it makes it harder for them to buddy up, and make a connection with them, so they are often overlooked.

    3. They are representing a whole group of people. One failure of a member of a minority group will affect everyone else in that group. While good actions, are normally just ignored.

These Adjustments and Affirmative action rules are not giving minorities preference at the expense of the majority, but making sure that they are playing on a fair playing field.

Or you could do it the other way too. Who knows what problems that iPhone X will have. This is the first Apple Phone with an OLED screen, so it may have the burn in problem too, there are also a bunch of other new features that may not work well in mass produced state. If you are going to get the iPhone X, I would probably recommend the Apple Care, as you may get a bunch of extra problems at first.

  20. Being that the FBI had a hard time breaking into an older iPhone, that they had the actual system on hand. And Apple had stated that they do not store the information off the phone, And this phone will need to function in areas where there is no cell or network connections. There is little need to store in the cloud, and just a lot of risk if they do. I tend to take Apples word on this.
Now they may be sending every time I use the phone, and where I am located, but I doubt they are sending my actual face info over.

  21. Mostly I don't think Face ID is an improvement to the User Experience, but an attempt to maximize screen space. A fingerprint reader takes a lot of space. Just because we have big fingers.

The problem is that News Organization in order to get the Headline over summarize something complex to a point where it is understandable to an 8th grader.
Changing an engineering tolerance in a part once in mass production is actually fairly common action. This doesn't mean that they will reduce its accuracy as stated in its engineering specifications, but the lower tolerance would mean the mean of the products would reach the lower end of the tolerance range approved before manufacturing. I expect the problem is on this Dot generator on the iPhone X and they probably have problems reaching the maximum dot level... So other then 10,500 dots, it may have 10,031 Dots while the Specification says it needs to generate more then 10,000 dots. The tolerance level for the QA for the phone may had been 10,250 dots, and they lowered to to 10,000 dots.

This isn't reducing the advertised capabilities, just lowering the tolerance levels for faster production.

Just like the older iPhone are rated waterproof for 1 meter of water for 30 minutes, most of them released actually fair much better.

  23. I like the idea behind Face ID. Being that it is doing a 3d scan of your face, it makes it more secure then a finger print, which is much easier to duplicate.
Also while the current Face Emoji are just silly. It does open the technology up to doing more interesting types of more practical work. If you are not looking at the device it could slow down the GPU to save battery. Improve accuracy on speech to text, as it can read your lips in connection on what you are saying. The technology could also be modified further for processing ASL for the hearing impaired.
Being that your face information IS NOT sent to the cloud, like how the fingerprint reader doesn't send your finger print to the cloud, I don't the security problem with that.

  24. In some ways it is sad, that we need laws because too many people are just so much jerks who don't care that they are annoying others just for their addiction.

However the Smoking Ban in buildings in New York State, in general is a good thing, as it greatly reduces the peer pressure kids have to smoke/vape in general. I am willing to Admit that Vaping is good if you are a smoker and you want to switch to a safer habit/addiction. But it shouldn't be the thing that the cool kids do, and be encouraged. If you are going to smoke or vape, and have others ingest your habit as well. Then you should do it outsize and deal with the elements while doing that.

Look at the cool guy, he is standing out there alone in the poring rain on a 40 degree day, just because he needs to feed his addiction.

  25. The Beige Box PC Problem. on Why We Must Fight For the Right To Repair Our Electronics (ieee.org) · · Score: 1, Insightful

I think this problem had occurred from the ability for people who tried to "Fix" their beige box PC's.

During the 1990's we had a glut of generic PC's that hit the market, or you can get named brands that were just the same. These devices were given parts of various quality, and "Upgrades" to parts may not have been as dependable as the old part.

So say in 1995 someone got a Brand new 486 Gateway 2000 computer. In 1997 they wanted to get a bigger drive, so they had replaced their quality drive with a Death Star drive, which fails often, this is messing up timing on the system so Windows is BSODing all the time. But because the drive in general is working, but is failing every so often, the user doesn't realize that his fix was the problem, and it must be those people at Gateway 2000 who sold you that POS Computer. So when you get your next computer you will switch to Dell or some other brand.

Apple has a history of keeping its devices locked down and being fairly preventative towards do it yourself repairs. Now this means when your bring your Apple device to get fixed by certified repair places, they use the components that have been vetted correctly. That means the fix more often then not fixes the problem, and you keep the device for the rest of its expected life.

So if I were to open up my iPhone, and replace the battery with a some cheap knockoff battery that happens to fit the form factor, which causes my phone to get on fire, It will get posted on Social Media and go viral about exploding iPhones and how dangerous they are. We had this problem a little while back when some people got a ripoff power brick that in essence just wired the AC current straight to the phone, Causing the phone to catch on fire. This went viral and caused problems for Apple until they found out the truth.

In short, with social media, it is way to easy to spread hate, and fix it yourself, means you can screw up your device, thus make you feel justify spreading hate for the product that YOU had messed up.
