    You clearly have interests in engineering. With a Degree in engineering, and Art, you can probably get a good paying career in engineering, using Art to improve your engineering designs. However you choose the opposite route using engineering to improve your are in a career where there is a lot of risk of not getting your next paycheck.

    There is the original intent from the creators, then the interpretation of the users.
    Being that it is a written document, the intent is not really binding, but the letter of the document needs to show that interpretation is wrong.

    Right now in this political environment, progress will only happen with the few crazy err umm eccentric folks. With the money and resources to attempt it.

    Now unlike the government failure is an option. Branson lost a test ship, so he just as a PR issue to fix. If this happened on a government funded watch, you will have congressional hearing (which will never turn out good) The guy who can't point his finger down will take the blame. The next years budget will get cut.

    Well there is Arnold Swenager the person and Arnold Swenager the brand.

    If the media gets their hold of Arnold in some sort scandal. He cannot force that to be removed.
    But if they want to use the Arnold brand for a movie then they will need to do so.

    One is free speech, the other is branding rights.

    Ah yes Nostalgia Blinders!.

    Guess what it is 2014 and I still have to work with 3270 mainframes. And it good old time.

    1. New regulations means we need to add more and more to the screens. 80x24 gets filled fast, adding new screen pathways makes the program more cumbersome to use.

    2. Bulk Imports are ugly. Using screen scraping to load bulk data because it is locked down where you can't access the data directly.

    3. Changes are scary, one mistake effect the full work load.

    Nobody wants DRM. The companies impose it on us to prevent unauthorized use.

    I think for a coffee maker. The fact that they are trying to say which coffee you can and can't use is really stupid. Unless they show that ripoff k-cups somehow harm the system.

    I know with Solid Ink Printers. You really need to use the branded ink. The cheap third party stuff has a slightly differing heating and cooling rate. Where over time they gum up the internals and you have a printer with solid ink stalagmites and stalactites on the inside.

    Granted Linux distributions don't know how to make it easy yet.

    I mean most of the sites that you go to get bit coins are kinda questionable.
    And it seems you can only buy cheap poor quality stuff with bit coins.

    A big problem today is the difficulty in making extra cash.

    You can grow some food pr bake, find an empty spot in a public bazar and hoc your goods. (Your food needs to be checked by the FDA you will need to get and pay for a license to sell at that location).
    Uber has its bad points but what it does is empower citizens to do things that will make them some extra money, If you are willing to drive people after work then go ahead, if you want to make a career out of it that is good too.
    There is also similar sites where you can rent your home. The cities are cracking down on this because it could be considered hotelling.

    Now I am not trying to give a republican rant about Big Government. But we should change the discussion from big vs small government to if the laws passed empower or restrict the freedoms of the individuals.

    So you are proposing censoring billions of people because they are showing you content that you don't like.
    That sounds very dictatorial of you. Now no one is forcing you to go to these sites that you hate so much.
    The fact that you are visiting them, means you are getting content that you like. If those ads are so offensive I am sure you can find some sites with paywalls, or sites willing to take your money to replace it with ads.

    99% of the web is garbage to me too. But guess what... I am willing to bet that it may not be the same 99% as yours. Part of freedom of speech means we get a variety of interests and ideas. You don't like LOL Cats that is fine, other people do, however they may not be willing to pay a subscription to it.

    Animated picture formats in general are a disaster waiting to happen.
    While I don't do much photographic work, the featured I prefer are in PNG formats, such as Alpha transparencies. But what I would like to see is the ability to blur/distort the background.
    So you can have a magnifying glass picture that can make the background of the image larger, or having an image overlay that can mimic a piece of paper and have a faint image behind it a bit blurry.
    But more to the point we need different formats for different jobs. If you try to make a good compressed photo format you will loose out on features. If you want featured you will loose out on size, rendering speed, and quality.

    So in order for a website to remain free for the users use, they will need to post more advertisements to make up for it.

    If you don't like advertising on you favorite site. Then you better find them a business model where they can keep running (as it isn't free for them) and feed their family's.
    Otherwise just suck it up as the cost of having free access to their data.

    We tend to think that each trait evolved was there for some sort or benefit. However a trait can happen just as long as it didn't create a significant hindrance.

    So if you take the normal bell curve. On the left side are traits that are harmful, on the right side you get traits that are helpful.

    Lets say 2 sigma to the left means the disadvantage is large enough to cause them to die before they can reproduce. So the disadvantages that are 1 sigma to the which are still harmful will pass on to the next generation then you got traits that fall on the average which are neutral. Over time you get on the average better, however not all traits have a use initially or ever.

    Lets use humans who have acne. There is no real advantage to it, it is slightly disfigurating so it could reduce your chances of mating, you can get wounds that cause infections... But that is so minor that passing the genes that cause acne over and over.
    Now lets say in a million year the acne had evolved over time that causes the skin to be thicker, and act as a form of armor. But right now it is just an inconvenience, or after a million years it can go away, or just still plague people.

    Well if the new radio's are smaller, lighter and do not need to be (better components, less moving, or parts that can move...) repaired, and offer near identical sound. Then Yes your old radio is inferior to the new one.

    I think the biggest issue is that an IP location lookup will point to your address for Internet traffic that isn't from you.
    So say your neighbor does some illegal activity. Now chances are you won't get convicted. But just getting questioned, and investigated is troublesome in its own right.

    Zealots are deniers.
    The problem is there are enough vocal Zealots to proclaim that how a product is licensed some how makes it superior/inferior to an other.
    But in general the more confident you are in your products superiority, the more problems you ignore or don't bother looking for.

    Which is too bad.
    I was able to get XFree86 to work on the stuff that autodetect just fails on.
    In most particular is my old netbooks 1024x600 resolution monitor which it wants to me to run at 800x600 stretched.

    I am not implying that is what the C stands for.
    But C programs are best for what I consider to be Core Level software.

    Operating Systems, Compilers, Database engines, Web Servers...
    In general C is good for programs that needs to take the most out of your computer.

    However higher level langues should be used for those application where faster development time is more important then the products overall speed.

    Being that most business apps are just a form where people fill out and query a db. Those can be done in the PHP/Python/C++/Javas of the world. While the stuff handling the IO Calls should be done in C.

    Now back in the Mid 90's C was to be the the main programming language for any program. Due to the decline of Business Languages (Cobol, FoxPro, Delphi...) and the move to the PC which needed the extra speed to run on the slower Desktops.

    However now with most stuff being server based. It is cheaper to use a quicker to code, language with the cost of performance due to cheaper hardware prices vs expensive labor costs.

    For most users the File System quality is the least of their concern.
    If it is then you probably should focus your attention on an OS with a filesystem that meets your needs.
