A hyphen is used to, uhhh, 'hyphenate' compound words and between series of numbers (not dates though, keep reading). An en-dash is the width of the letter N in the same font family and is used pretty much only between range of dates. I got my tech-writer job based not only on the quality of my experience on my resume (put little lines above the e's for me), but also because I used En-dashes in my date ranges ;-)

Em-dashes are the width of an M and are used when most people would incorrectly use a semi-colon or a colon (although you could successfully use a semi-colon, most people don't, and I could have used em-dashes here where I'm typing between parentheses but I can't figure out how to type them on a PC using HTML, even though the post above states how to, or I could have just used --...sheesh).

I'd get him a 20" Intel-based Apple iMac computer installed with the last version of Office (not the newest one, but one before). That way, Bill could at least see that a decent-spec'd, moderately priced yet still well-designed computer CAN actually be a pleasant experience for the overwhelming majority of normal computer users. Maybe then Bill can realize that sometimes less is more and that a long laundry list of half-assed features is no good compared to a shorter list of features that work well.

Let's look at the motives of either side and see what's really going on. The Al Gores of the world have a personality order commonly referred to as "Chicken Little" and are so full of self-importance they feel the need to save the world. The idiots on the opposite extreme hate to be bothered by facts and science (hey, if it ain't in the Bible...), so they regurgitate a bunch of phony old-wives-tales they heard on Rush Limbaugh. So yeah, that's what he said. For anyone else to belittle that decision is pretty stupid if you ask me. Good thing it is HIS money and not yours. Of course there are other events in play here, such as him constantly hearing us office Mac users talking about our overt LACK of Winbox issues and such. His interest was piqued, his first experience with Apple was Safari on PC and he is going to switch. Score one for the Apple business model and their concerted efforts to get switchers based on high-quality halo-effect products such as iPods/iPhones and Windows software.

Frankly, I think Safari on the PC kinda sucks (or at least it feels weird trying to be all mac-like on a winbox), but it IS clean and fast, which is all this guy is looking for.
