You've made my point for me. The game looks GREAT with the default settings (great being a relative term). I'm sure it looks even better with better hardware, but that doesn't make the game any less fun to play. I seriously doubt there are any graphical items missing that take away from the game play. The highest settings require expensive video cards that don't quite justify the expense, in my book. In the case of Crysis, I read they developed it to play at higher settings than are even possible with current hardware. Fun project, but not really practical, given better games will be out by the time better hardware is available.
I don't get it. What's the point of linking Snopes with adware? They run a website and they are trying to make money, so what? Is there some sort of correlation between Snopes (urban legends reference) and malware that would make Snopes look hypocritical? Maybe it's this particular adware? Somebody please explain.
I've just read this entire thread and it amazes me at how badly everyone is over-analyzing this. SMS costs as much as it does because you fools continue to pay for it. It reminds me of my daily $3.50 coffee, which I know is a ripoff, but I keep buying it anyway.
I'm not sure which AT&T you have, but mine comes with 200 SMS messages a month for bundled with the $55/month voice & data plan. SMS is a ripoff because some people can't live without it (or so they think) so they are WILLING to pay the ridiculous prices. I wish I could opt out of my 200 free SMS messages and get a lower monthly rate, but alas, I must be some sort of weirdo who sees little value in texting. As long as every teenager on the planet is addidded to texting, SMS will be a rip-off; much like paying $12 for a Brittney Spears CD.
Play the game and enjoy it for the best settings you can get. I downloaded the Crysis demo last night for my 20" iMac booted into WinXP (2.33ghz c2d, 2gb ram, 256mb X1600 video card, hardly an ideal gaming platform, eh?). I read that I wouldn't be able to play it on very good settings, so I took the default settings for my native resolution and played through the entire demo level with no slowdowns. It looked great.
The real problem here is people feeling like they are missing out because of the higher settings they can't play. Just play the game! Quit fueling the ridiculous ten-year-old trend of spending more on graphic cards than the computers themselves! If the game were unplayable at the medium setting, then yeah, I'd say the complaint is valid.
The MacBook Air has a dualcore 1.6 GHz processor where the X1 has a single core that clocks 1.1 GHz. Also the Air can take 2GB versus the 1.25 GB of the X1.
I'll take the faster CPU over an SD card slot any day of the week.
With the latest update, all you have to do is use a phone locator online service, type in a number, then put that page on the main screen of your iPhone. 1-button access to a 7-digit phone number.
Well, "maths" is definitely one of the hardest things for an American living in the UK to get used to. I still can't bring myself to say "maths" or use plural conjucations for corporations. "Apple are selling.." just never sounds right.
The story is void of facts. One paragraph declaring Apple iPhone sales don't add up? Is that all they've got? The MySpace story above this one has more value than this.
No doubt bullets can kill, but without good intel, bullets are kind of indiscrimant killers. Besides, FCS is full of firepower as well, so it's not just about lines of code. Go check out the briefing slides available from Boeing. Those are some killer fighting vehicles!
Strangely enough, I haven't found a good use for PiP in the 20 or so years my tv's have had them. Two football games at once are unwatchable, even on my 50" plasma. I think you are confusing product superiority with "laundry list of useless features".
Excellent points. I just get tired of the myth that Macs use some sort of magically proprietary components, when that hasn't been true since the pre PPC days.
I've looked into it a bit more too. It seems that it varies from State to State. Texas requires compensation time be given for every hour above 40. My last two jobs have chosen to pay me hourly rates instead of giving me comp time. Call me lucky, I suppose.
I'm not sure you used mockery correctly (or I misunderstand your point?) I'm an OSX user and 99.9% GUI guy, so I think you misread my posts. I'm not defending CLI. I'm just saying that some GUIs are so bad that the CLI is just easier and faster (10 years ago, using Sun OS, for example). I understand the sentiment of the CLI guys, but think they have mostly just been passed by. But, there are probably thousands of guys right now that could point me to an OSX terminal and show me how to do a bunch of stuff really fast and easy.
No, but I noticed two anti-Apple stories of questionable validity on one page, less than a day apart. Kind of tipped me of that KDawson probably isn't very fond of Apple.
It's outlined in the Fair Labor Standards Acts. I believe my company uses the legal analysis provided by BLR (but it's a pay service, so not much help in this discussion). I could ask HR, but then they'd know I spend my 5 extra hours each week on slashdot.
Like I said, there are probably exemptions to exempt status, like managers or commissioned sales, who don't get paid anything over their base salaries or commissions, regardless of how many hours they work. In my last two jobs, though, as an exempt employee, they've paid me for my hours in excess of 40. I'm pretty sure this is standard fare (if not required by law).
Leave the "busting" up to law enforcement, not "Anonymous" hackers. I hate vigilantes with a passion. Also, it is a slippery slope when it comes to determining what is a "scam" and what is a religious belief system. This is the sort of thing the constitution protects against.
So when Scientology is afforded religious protection and classified as a religion by US policy pertaining to religious groups, it isn't a religion? I agree it's a cult, but then again, who is to say that Christianity isn't a cult either? Hell Christians claim Islam is a made-up cult... Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't something that it clearly is.
I'm not religious, and I'm with Operation Clambake regarding my opinions about Scientology in general, but for those of us who live in the US, "freedom of religion" is sort of a basic concept. Unfortunately for many, freedom of religion applies as long as you are a Christian. (And yes, I realize the constitution only provides against the establishment of a religion by the government, but I'm speaking on broad, sociological terms).
Why pick on Scientologists, yet allow Mormonism or Wicca? This is either an all or nothing proposition to me. Ban all religions, or allow any religion. In America, I side with "allow any religion", even though I have none myself, because this makes our society great.
side note: I wonder if this could be considered a hate crime?

My contract is $70.45 per month. I'm not sure where you get your "100 dollar a month contract minimum" from.
Man, if you are gonna get modded flamebait, you could at least get the price right in your flame.

No. What I think he is saying is everything is relative, and he (like I am) is sick of the hyperbole.
