no way I am trusting someone elses system to drive my car if I am responsible for an accident caused by that system.
Id rather take my chances with my own skill if I am going to be held responsible. at least I know a thing or two about my own skills, I dont know anything about the system that is driving my car for me.
would you buy a car with an auto-drive system written by microsoft.
unless they started selling to niche markets, like local music for instance, or indie labels... they could get the music cheeper than apple gets theirs and possibly sell it for more since apple carries only a limited selection of music.
Im not sure how much money there is to be made but I bet someone out there could manage it.
DRM is essential to the iTunes music store. the RIAA wouldnt agree to it without some DRM. apples DRM is only mildly restricting and it is the iTunes music store that is helping to move their (already sex) iPods. being able to get music for your iPod from multiple sources should encourage more people to buy one (apple makes money) and the dont loose money becase of the compitition since their music store isnt going to make a whole lot.
hell eventualy they could back out of selling music all together if other people will do it for them.
also, you can use an iPod for data storage. as for your sexuality, youll have to talk to an expert, i have no advice on this matter:)
because everyone would stop using them and they would have to hire more tollbooth operators again... not to mention the money wasted on installing these systems.
not realy... listening to CDs on a computer is mostly a waste of time... its not like a decent CD player is that expensive...
not being able to play CDs (and remember, this is only new, popular, DRM CDs) in my computer is not realy that big of a deal. Not being able to burn CD's is.

the term "Bill of Rights" applies specificaly to the first 10 amentments to the constitution, and were drafted at aproximately the same time as the constitution itself. further amendments are not part of the "Bill of Rights"
this is the basic 90% of every thing is crap argument... ie. music wasnt better then... its just that only the 10% survivies... thats why todays music isnt as bad as you think...
of course, I cant even see 10% of modern music that I would like to be listening to in 20 years, but maybe thats just me
having a large amount of ram under Mac OS X is very good, especialy on a laptop, it helps you avoid paging and keeps your battery life long.
My old iBook had 384 and worked great, until it was stolen, my next laptop will likely have much more ram... sure, it costs power to keep the aditional ram powered but avoiding hits to paged out memory under heavy use condiditons is more valuable. I dont like to keep my laptop pluged in all the time
I found capsul hotels to be consistantly overpriced... hell, you can find a love hotel for 45-50 bucks... which is a great deal is you are traveling with a companion.
but the capsule hotels were generaly more expensive than the youth hostels... of course the hostels tended to close their doors early, which was kind of a pain...
well, it has to do with the way they set up these expos.
Apple has chosen a 2 a year model (in the US) therefore, in order to allow the most people to attend the expo with minimal traveling, they have the two on the coasts, instead of somewhere in between.
chigago is a great town for conventions, but it results in serious travel for most of the people on the east coast (includes most major population centers for that area). on the other hand, if you held only 1 convention a year for the whole country I think chicago would be THE place to hold it.
lets face it... there arent any realy big markets near chicago, just chicago itself. NYC, philly, boston, DC they are all a reasonably long way from chicago. I just dont think it would fit well with the model they have chosen.
thats just my thinking.
there is one other major factor. look at the distances that companies have to travel to exhibit at the expo. boston has a huge number of apple developers (avid, media 100, bare bones... countless smaller developers... there are major local offices for macromedia and adobe as well )the north east is a stron location for apple, good Idea to keep your expo near that.
I lived in philly for the last ten years... Septa is a joke and although cabs are available they are not sufficent.
and what convention center would you hold it in exactly?
Boston is in the process of building a new convention center (done in 2004). Its restaruants are world class and its hotels are certainly not more expensive than the ones in manhattan.
sure, chicago would be a nice city for this, but it is relatively remote, sticking to an east cost city allows for easy trasport to the site for many people in this part of the country. as for having it in san fran... dont they already do that?
Also, given that boston has offed them a free ride at the new convention center I realy dont think they are going to do better in NY.
oh, and the big thing about the silver line is that it has dedicated lanes, and by the time the new convention center opens it will be fully completed.
sure, the T closes, but if your staying in down town boston you realy dont have to worry about it. everything is a short walk or a short cab ride (there are plenty of cabs in boston, Ive never had trouble getting one)
first off... attendence is falling not only in people, but also in exhibitors. I was at MW NY a year ago and ADOBE wasnt there... WTF is that! they are much better off having this show in a city where exhibitors can actualy afford to go.
Its mostly due to the teamsters union in NY, you cant do anything at the expo without paying teamsters a ton of money to watch you do it.
as for the trouble with boston... less accessible... look, logan isnt great but its easier to get too and from than the NYC airports, hell there is a tunnel right to the convention center... with 2 new hotels right next to it.
there are plenty of hotels in boston for this kind of thing.
the only real problem is that if more exhibitors show up the show might have to be split across 2 halls, but frankly, thats an if. the expo has been a loosing propostion in NY. better to have more exhibitors than you can handle than not enough to make your expo center seem full.
as for your overall complaints about boston (resturaunts, public transit and such) theya re realy unfonded. the Silver line will provide service from the trade center to the center of town, bostons transit system is far easier to handle than NYs since it doesnt have express and local trains and has less than 20 lines.
boston is a fine city for this kind of thing, the only problem is the convention center which, given the way the expo has gone in NY, might not be such a big problem

if user interface isnt function then what is.
Well, I handled it well, but you did designg that post to elicit (sp?) a response and I did give you one.
:)
I think we can chalk this up to a well played all around
wow.
I was trolled.... But clearly by an expert. i havent seen a troll that subtle on here in years. nice work!

wow... the moderaters here suck more than ever.
you realy think we can get bush and his thugs out of their offices!?!
or maybe it will change to "duh" to remind us of how stupid George "Duh" Bush was.

one has to wonder what part of non-comercial use he failed to understand...
I certainly hope that lawsuits are pending in this case.
that is absolutely rediculous.

I said I lived in philly for ten years
that is a lie
I lived there for 2 years...
I need to go home and sleep.
Philly...
surely you jest

given the lower attendence by individuals and companies, Mac world 2003 could be in boston in one of the older convention centers.
Not anymore.
at least not friday and saturday night thanks to the night owl buses that run along all of the subway routes untill very very late at night.
I never use them myself, so I dont know much about them, but I have many friends that use them quite a bit.
your nuts.

so use a scripting addition.... duh
there is one called player (as in player piano) that seems to work pretty well...
