Really I think of message passing as more of a concept than just a syntax. Sure you can treat it as a regular old method call, but its so much more than that.
While I agree that it is proper to respond in kind (i.e. calmly and rationally) it is also necessary to correctly name bigotry when it is encountered. If we do not, then we miss out on the opportunity to enlighten an otherwise rational individual about the nature of their beliefs. This person, otherwise rational, holds bigoted beliefs and, for whatever reason, is unaware of the nature of those beliefs.
Don't get me wrong, be polite, be articulate, calm and rational but above all else, educate.
These programs have been shown to cause grave psychological harm to the people who go through them. Encouraging someone to believe in a flat earth my spread ignorance but it is not likely to cause physical or psychological harm.
Really? when did you start choosing to not be gay? Did you choose to be heterosexual or have you chosen some other state? Asexuality perhaps (not the same as not being able to get laid).
You are mistaken, no matter how flowery his prose the ideas that the grandparent is exposing are pure bigotry. Don't let him off the hook just because he doesn't express those views like a drooling moron.
Your house will have a device to temporarily store the energy, its called an electric car, it comes with a bank of batteries and it sits in your driveway every night for 8+ hours where it can accumulate that charge.
Why would you install a separate fly wheel just so you can charge your car in 5 minutes in the morning?
High speed charging at home really isn't all that important. It seems to me that high speed charging would be more important on the road, at places like gas stations that could, conceivably, have a large battery bank or fly wheel to charge up electric cars quickly. At home I think a 4 hour charge on 220 would be fine.
In the US those are often taught at technical schools in 2 year programs (sometimes longer for some specialties). If you dont' have an uncle who will apprentice you in his shop, these are often a good way to turn your amateur mechanics skills into a career. When people from the US say college this is not the kind of school they mean.
In large part that is because for those first 4 years, while you are getting paid peanuts, you are actually a drain on the productivity of those around you. They are spending what would be their productive time training you. And there is always a chance you will bounce and head someplace else with your 4-6 years experience for better money so the company will never see a benefit from the training they gave you.
Plus there is always the chance that you are one of those people who is just never really going to grok pointers in depth and you will be less valuable to the company as a whole. Why should I take a flyer on someone with no experience and no training just to spend 4 years training them to maybe be useful for me or someone else when I can hire someone out of school and at least there will be a reasonable shot (assuming you do a good job interviewing people) that they will be a net positive within a year.
We just hired a kid out of school, he has been here 6 months and he has set up our build machines, gotten automated builds running and has fixed quite a few bugs. If we had to start with the basics it would take a lot longer to get to the point where someone is producing more than they are draining, regardless of salary.
I'm with you on cyclists in New England. They really don't seem as bad in other parts of the country. Around here bouncing back and forth between the sidewalk and the street is very common and they tend to be very pissy at pedestrians who have the gaul to walk down the sidewalk.
I know not all of them are like that, but its common enough to be a real pain in the ass and give them all a bad name.
Of course it probably would have been a lot harder to get that 10 years experience without a 4 year degree to get you in the door. While the grand parents company might have been willing to take someone with a 2 year degree, many are not, fair or no.
I could see augmented reality being fairly valuable and I kind of like the idea of taking quick videos and being able to edit them right on the iPad (I would like that on the iPhone), never mind the front facing camera allowing for Facetime.
well, of all the iDevice... um.. devices, it is the fastest and has the largest screen, so it should provide the best user experience for running all those really nice applications.
Plus the cameras make it more useful than the last gen iPad, which is really its only competitor if you are talking tablet sized devices (and not phone/iPod sized devices).
Who is surprised at how unprofessional and childish some of these emails are? Forget about the questionable activities, I have never worked at a job where these emails would be considered acceptable communications, even internally.
Yea, how many shows in any genre have a character dynamic of the level of the Londo-G'kar relationship. That was certainly the high point of the series for me.
Apparently, from what I have been able to gather, she was asleep, she woke up asked if he had a condom on. He indicated that he did not and, despite this, they continued sex to completion.
IF that constitutes consent or not is left as an exercise for the reader.
Only if you assume a spherical iPhone.

See, I don't think this is a corporation exerting power to shape the social norms. After all, they approved the app in the first place.
Apple only removed it because of a petition which sounds to me like individuals shaping the behavior of a company.
Your right, the only solution is massive government oversight and regulation of all industry to make sure they only do the right thing all the time.

The car comes with just such a battery and it sits in your driveway all night? why on earth would you buy a second one?

True, but to be honest, most of those were fairly elegant.

I know its usually a joke, but in this case, I think you might actually be using it wrong.

That's because.... (wait for it....)
once you go Mac, you don't go back.

deep, conflicted characters is not necessarily the same as relatable characters.
Don't get me wrong, Sci Fi wise B5 was worlds above any Stargate, but Stargate wasn't a bad TV show.
I believe the Qt port to Android was finished just a few days ago.
