This is a fairly new development but one that I, as a mead maker, am very happy about. Most mead takes years to mature often times it takes a decade. I cant be bothered with the expense of natural cork and I am unwilling to risk a batch that I have been nurturing for years to a cork that is so likely to fail.

yea, but the cost of gas fluctuates too much.

Mostly I want to know what my per mile cost is going to be when I pass the range of the batteries. For commuting to and from work I expect I would be within the battery range and I know I'm going to do that anyway. What I want to know is, how big of a bath am I going to take when I want go on vacation and drive 600 miles without a chance to re-charge.

It seems obvious that electricity will still be cheaper than oil.

I'm curious to see what impact this has on time based electricity pricing. If everyone is charging up a car at night wouldn't overall demand even out between morning and evening? Right now people talk about charging the cars at night when electricity is cheep but I cant imagine that would remain the case.

I guess at this point I'm just not so concerned with the number of watts it takes to go a mile. But you have to figure that electricity costs are going to go up over time, especially if lots of people are using cars like this. So maybe by the time I'm buying one that will be more of a concern.

  9. Re:Electric Gas Cans? on Plug-in Hybrids May Not Go Mainstream, Toyota Says · · Score: 5, Informative

Plug in hybrids still use gas. That's why they are hybrids, otherwise they would simply be electric cars.

The idea here is to juice up the batteries at home and use them for the first x number of miles (hopefully enough to handle your commute). After that, when the batteries are low, a small diesel (or gas) engine will start up and begin charging the batteries providing you with more range. So if your out of juice you would simply fill up just like a regular car.

Of course I'm curious how they will report the millage on these cars. I would want to know the range on the electric system and the millage when running purely on gas, but I worry they will come up with some new way to measure it that has little to no meaning.

I believe you will find that the emulator is not actually part of xcode. Similarly, Dashcode and shark and sampler are not actually part of xcode but rather separate utilities (much like interface builder is). Xcode is an IDE it provides text editing functionality, a UI on top of gcc and a UI on top of gdb. There may be a few other features in there, but they are neither unique or necessary for iphone development.

I didn't think it was necessary to get into that level of detail on such a technically inclined web site, but I guess I was wrong.

I be if someone really watned to they could put together a version of eclipse that was ready to go for iphone development. I dont have the motivation, but maybe its a big issue for other people out there. Then again, maybe most people are like you and I and just want it to work.

I actually meant the debugger integration in Xcode in general. I have no experience with the SDK at all. Its usable, but often the messages that make it to the UI are not as helpful as they could be.

Given the quality of many of the other dev apps from apple, im still a bit unimpressed by X-code. It does keep getting better though.

while I agree with you on most of the apple tools, debugger integration is not really their strongest point.

Now I haven't even looked sideways at the iPhone SDK but I'm still curious. Since xcode is just a UI on top of gcc, couldn't you just as easily do all your development for the SDK on the command line (accepting that you might be better off doing the interface development in interface builder). Sure, your probably still stuck on a mac since the SDK isn't available elsewhere, but it seems like you could use the command line or even eclipse as your SDK if you were willing to put in the time to configure it.
