    4. how about an integrated mouse in a laptop? it could snap on/off and you could use it on the side, then just have the cord retract and it would re-attach to the machine.

How are you planning to deal with the right hand/left hand mouse issue? Make two models (one for lefties and one for righties, and hope the computer only has one user thrughout it's lifetime)? Have the left handed mouse user drag the cord all the way to the other side and use it there?

Aside from left/right hand issues, will that mouse replace the current pointing device? If so- how is one going to use it where you don't have much room for the mouse, like on the seat tray you get when you fly coach?

I dunno. I just never understood people who use mice with laptops. I guess they don't travel much with the laptop.

The Dev snapshots of OpenOffice (2.0) have a very nice GUI (and Access like) front end for databases (any database OOo can use as a data source).

You can see a few screenshots here:

It isn't ready yet, but it is worth keeping an eye on.

Well, if you are using the Hebrew or Arabic (and probably other languages as well) enabled versions of Windows 98, you will just get a message that WindowsUpdate is no longer supported, and that you should locate your updates by going thrugh all the lists at MS's site and deciding for yourself which ones you need.

And Win98 is still officially supported.

From the logs of my site:

"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0; en) Opera 7.60"

You can also get strange ones, like spoofing MSIE running under Linux:
    "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; X11; Linux i686) Opera 7.54 [en]"

Last I checked, the spoofing of the UA string was the default :-(

The unspoofed UA looks something like this:
    "Opera/7.60 (Windows NT 5.0; U) [en]"

Yeah, cutting egde. Being the LAST browser to implement bidi support, and even now they don't get it close to right on anything but the Widnows version (I am talking about 7.53 version on both Linux and MacOSX).

Sorry, but I refuse to use a browser that displays any Hebrew/Arabic text that appears in a form widget- be it a drop down menu or the text I write in a text area- reversed, making it impossible for me to read what I am writing (and guess what are the options presented to me in the drop down menus).

Not to mention the email client and the IRC client which suffer from the same problem which makes it unusable.

It is ironic, that a non-US browser is so weak when it comes to i18n features. It is sad that Opera is the one that came out with a press release about how great they are for Hebrew-
http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2002/06/2002 0620.dml THat was over two years ago, and they still don't get it right.

I used to like Opera very much, back in Opera 4 days. But after many years, many versions, many bug reports submitted and many unfullfiled promises, I just moved on to FOSS browsers.

At least there, I can search bugzilla and see what is going on with my bug reports, and not be forced to download the next version in the hope that maybe maybe they fixed it now.

Seems to me that is easier to learn a programming language then to learn English for a non-native English speaker: much less ambivalence.
