I gotta say, just based on personal experience here, that the outlook for this project doesn't look good. The last underground science facility I worked at over in Raccoon City just didn't work out in the long run.
Honestly I don't see the point. Why use taxpayers money to create an infrastructure that is easily circumvented?
Think of the children? Please. If some creepy dude wants pictures of children he'll a proxy.
As far as schools go, it should be on their shoulders to filter what their students should or should not be able to view. This is the concept of gun control all over again - it hurts the honest man, as lawbreakers will easily find a way to circumvent it.
...and let me tell you something about planning here. For the last 30 years they've been "planning" a system of rail transport on Oahu, and it simply hasn't come to pass. A lot of development projects here are simply shut down because many of the locals are very adverse to change. Even projects like these that have good environmental impacts at face value will require a ton of development. Behind that development will be an equal amount of litigation just to get the permits.
I'm not one to try and sound negative, but it will never happen in Hawaii outside of Waikiki (a lot of development happens there in order to help boost tourism).
Obviously you can't go too much in the other direction either. The checks are there for people who write code seen on http://www.thedailywtf.com/ who actually click the flashing banner that says they've just won lots, and for those who open up the.exe they found in the email that contains 'instructions on how to get a bigger pen15 2day'.
It's like anything else in life. The sins of one hurt everyone.
There will always be people who get shampoo in their eyes, and because of that these checks will always exist.
Osteophelia obviously. The sexual attraction to bones and bone structures.

Classy. The subtle twist on the word "tail" along with the allegory towards Mr. Bryant's affairs made this a decent and well thought out troll. Could be improved by getting first post, and perhaps adding some punctuation.
Great idea, but it needs some guidelines. Styling being the most obvious one (no I don't want to see how it looks using the custom skin you made that shows off several varieties of wood), but much more importantly is libraries. If you have a look through their "things needing screenshots" section, you'll notice that it's full of libs, many of which have no interface at all. That being the case, why are they there? Seems to me like all the data here needs some garbage collection and more rigid guidelines.
For a pleasant working environment the data center has simulated daylight, greenhouses, waterfalls and a huge 2600-liter salt water fish tank.
That's quite the fish tank... large enough for certain carnivorous, cartilanginous fish...
Backup power is handled by two Maybach MTU diesel engines producing 1.5 Megawatt of power.
Goodness that's a lot of power, certainly more than a standard set of servers would need. Why, with all that extra electricity you could probably power several deadly lase...OHMYGODWHAT HAVE WE LET THEM CREATE?!?
So what? You still get the same information from the story with or without the affiliate code. The article provided me with an insightful look at Chinese knock offs, and having a small referral link doesn't change that. This is an 'everybody wins' situation. You get a story, slashdot gets content, DealExtreme gets traffic, and the author of the story gets a small kickback for bringing that traffic. Is that such a bad thing?
That schools will use this, which has no sources cited on the pages themselves, no list of authors who contributed, no history, and only the backing of the SOS peeps; when many schools wont allow research to be done on wikipedia itself which has the authority of the sources itself to back it.
Odd.
As the honest ones who never meant any harm will stay honest, and will be flagged as outcasts. The ones who do mean harm though, will just ignore the request to be honest and register a gmail account.
It's not just for internet connectivity purposes. The range of addresses used by IPv6 is broad enough that everyday objects can be identified with an IPv6 address for indexing and tracking purposes.
Let's say Wallmart is selling a lawn furniture set, and each one has a unique IPv6 address. Suddenly, keeping track of the stock is immensely easier. Need to know if the furniture set that the person returned was really the one that he bought from Wallmart? No worries, just scan the IPv6 chip in it. An employee has a garden gnome that looks suspiciously like the one that disappeared from the store a few weeks ago? Scan it and find out.
It's uses are significant. Don't dismiss the possibilities of having mundane objects having an address.

I entirely agree. The new userpages just arent as useful as the previous ones.

Cmon /., is this really news for nerds? Give it up. You don't need to be web 2.0 for us to love you.

Those are the countries with a lot of failed attempts.
We have ethical machines to deal with lawyers like these.

Just a quick correction, chrome has undo close tab as well. It's ctrl+shift+t.
Only one solution to this. Gotta have it doing protein folding 24/7. It's to save the environment.

Verizon. I hear they do wonders when it comes to email security.
...that the people who wouldn't have jobs if there was no piracy are the same people who discovered these numbers?
