Born raised Kansan, went to a public school (Olathe South) which was rated 32nd (iirc) in the nation at that time for best school (private & public) (used to be a huge banner about placement). Funny thing is, we learned about evolution, we spent almost a semester on evolution (esp micro evolution) and 1 hour discussing intelligent design. The teacher followed the law to the dot, recently a new school has gone up which is based on technology, aerospace engineering, etc. They've also started to subdivide the high schools so that what you want to focus on is where you are, for example arts and fashion design program is at one school while math and engineering is at another. Sadly I graduated before this went into effect but I'm looking forward to my children attending in the program.
I'm one of those Mad Hatters, and I've never hated Apple because of Foxconn, it's the fact they are litigating any company that moves (among dozens upon dozens of other reasons). I personally think this is a great gesture on their part and hope that the effects actually make changes this time (as in, this isn't the first, and Foxconn makes more than just apple products).
Dangerous because they were selling the drugs that were advertised. Tell me, a bit off topic, but what right does my government have to tell me what I can and cannot put in my body. I can go on for ages about the war on drugs and the real evils and why it exists but let's put it this way, I see it as a way of Google making a buck while protesting. People might also find Google evil because one of it's directors financed a lot of the Egyption revolution against a dictator. Dear god, google supported making people free it makes them eviiiiiiiiiillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.
So if say I collect a username and password to register to my site I'm evil? How about collecting your birthdate, that is most definitely an invasion of privacy, therefor I must be evil. I allow you to post blurbs about your life on my site and store it in a database. That must make me evil! You choose to use this software, if you think it's evil to use the internet then just don't. The data they do sell is statistical and anonymous, they legally cannot sell "Joe Smith likes Nike Shoes", but they can sell "browser fingerprint has been searching for Nike Shoes".
Stop spreading fud, he was fired well before it became public. He made a stink about being fired and that's when his atrocities came to light. The actions of a few doesn't represent the many.
Or the third thing (much more to the benefit of the doubt), it's a training exercise. Or the fourth, they want to know what they're looking for to formulate a plan to protect. Though I like your #2, I want nothing more than for them to be dissolved.
I wager that it was a guess, remember 7.24*10^42% of all statistics are made up on the spot (oh damn fox did I go over 100%?), the idea is that people keep voting on the majority against science and pro ignorance (I should know, I live in Kansas...), request citation from my state and I'll spend some actual time pulling it up. I can't make truth or false on his claim with sources, but I definitely get his sentiment.
I will at least bring this to the table though, many fundamentalist Christians see science as a direct attack on their religion and I cite Galileo, the book burnings of the dark ages, evolution, vaccines, personhood rights (pray that god doesn't take you if your child will cost you your life, this is medical science which opens a whole ball park), etc. There's also a movement in the christian sector that support science and believe that man wrote the bible and is literally meant to be taken as allegory. But those seem far and few between because those who are most radical tend to have the loudest voices, and mob mentality listens to those who speak the loudest.
And a queing algorithm built into the phones and towers alike couldn't be configured to put priority on 911 texts? There may be a very good reason why that texts can take so long to get through (heavy traffic, bad signal, etc).
While I am 110% in agreement with you, in 30 years of renting you are out of 30 years worth of rent. In 30years of mortgage payment you have the value of your house remaining in your pocket (like a savings account). And if you actually keep ahead of maintenance and even did a little yourself (you don't need a guy to come out for $400 to pour Drano into your sink or $500 to unscrew a couple of bolts to put in a new water heater... use youtube it's all there) the maintenance costs will be fine.
But the real con is 30 year loans, if you can't afford a 15year loan you can't afford the house. With a 15year loan I believe it's a 1.5 increase on the price (so if your house is 200 you end up paying 300) but on a 30 year loan is almost 4x the price (200 becomes 800, note I MAY BE WRONG but I do remember it being substantial). You should never buy a house on a anything bigger than a 15 year loan. The other reality to accept is that on a 30year loan the likely hood you will ever meet the end of that is small. Let's consider, you graduate high school and goto college, that makes you 23. After working in your field for 5 years (28), you have married and had a child, you are in need of something bigger and you can finally own your own picket fence of a house. Add a year of looking, searching, saving, you are 29. That makes you essentially 60 if you never take a second mortgage or loose your job and have to get forbearance, etc etc etc. However had you taken a 15year loan (or better yet a 10year loan) you are 44 or maybe even 39. That means you own the property and you have no need to make any more payments for 25 years.
Tell me, which is better, and it's a small breed that actually pays up on their loan. It's a great idea if you can but you always need X more and the money is there. It's the same issues with paying up on any debt or savings that plague the American market. And stop convincing yourself you will eat out less, it just doesn't happen with most (nothing is all).
Maybe I'm one of those who were conned, but I do believe in buying my own home as an investment. However, I took a 15year loan (trying to get a 10year but they wouldn't give it to me) I purchased a house for 180k and I make 6figures. I also drive a car from 2002 with 170k miles on it, pointing out a bit of frugality. The real con is the the 30year loan, you will never pay up if you don't have to, but you should. But here's the real kicker, you really should pay up even on a 15 year loan, you should calculate what it would take to pay off your houses principal in 10years and tack on the difference to your mortgage because then you won't pay 2.5times the price for the house if you spend 15 years paying for it.
But renting an apartment (especially a high cost one) is the same as hemorrhaging money, a complete loss of money versus some value back. I may be naive/ignorant, and if I am I would really love to know to why. But it's a simple formula to me, home ownership > 0% value retention (except when you buy a widely inflated price for a house, which then yes an apartment is better), apartment = 0% value retention.
Microsoft has been attacking Google from left and right over Android, (hugely) it's search, it's email, etc. They are a huge backer to many of the lawsuits that have come up against Google. However, I agree with you I expect Microsoft to up it's game against Google with this lawsuit.
I am far more likely to believe something in the NYT before I believe something on the Fox network. However, modern day media is based on sensationalism and so I tend to take it all (esp political) as an opinion piece based on a blog. This goes for The Daily Show, I love Jon Stewart however he is notorious for pulling content out of context to an almost abusive level. However he does have a pension for also stating the obvious in a way that makes you weep for the citizens of America and laugh at the same time.
3:1 seems rather high, I'd like to see the true facts, I couldn't figure it being higher than 500:1 and that's just a guess. The reason I say this is that any kid that is afflicted by an effect of vaccines hits national media, get's huge coverage, etc and that only seems to happen once or twice a year. Hep C (a vaccine given to kids) afflicts millions of Americans and thousands die daily from it. Then we have cervical cancer vaccine for girls, the standard vaccines, etc etc etc.
What you like doesn't apply to everyone. I prefer to listen to music at home at a level appropriate for the situation. I hate going out with friends to restaurants/bars with live music because you cannot hear your companions (unless it's soft jazz). Another thing to keep in mind is that Americans are becoming far more isolated single islands every day. In person contact is becoming antiquated and online communication is preferred. I honestly believe the educational community is the reason for this, and this also may be my limited view but I'm watching my younger sisters generation and watching as they spend every day inside on facebook (these are popular girls not programmers). However anecdotal I've read a lot of reports stating similar information and for awhile was part of the concerning causes to the economic crisis (stagnated restaurant visits, then a downfall once the economy dipped).
Hey, I think the XNA API is rather nice (far superior to ObjC), plus there is a nice converting library for it called ExEn http://andrewrussell.net/exen/ . I'm a Java developer by history so I have a natural affinity for the Android API, but I think Microsoft did a great job with the API.
The issue I ran into using the windows mobile phones is that the one sprint offers doesn't support 4g, has a small screen, and is rather bad hardware all around. I'm waiting for one that is like my galaxy s2 then I will probably pick it up.
That reminds me of the Japanese food vending machines in the train station. Cant read katakana to save my life but they put down the yen amount. Ended up with sake instead of food (and didn't eat all day). Though luckily enough the japanese usually have pictures of food so you can get idea and do a little dance for that waiter/waitress.
Thanks for posting that, didn't think about it, I just called my congressman (we don't have women with rights here in Kansas. Kathleen Sibelius was the last one to exist, the rest are required by law to be pantsless, in the kitchen making babies; not sure how she's managing to be making babies while I'm at work but the garden boy has seem extra worn out lately).
Stop posting worthless links to your (worthless) slashdot journal troll.
Since when has Jerry Brown been dubbed the govenator?
I'd just like to point out the govenator is republican by party. But even he is more liberal than some liberals from other states.

I think you've been reading too many of his posts, it's had an adverse effect on you.

Reply to keep in log, mod me down if you like as this is off topic.

It's not just GCC, but it's Android in and of itself because it's written in Java.
