good for you for pirating anime, with any luck anime companies (who are already doing very poorly financially due to rampant piracy) will go compleatly out of buisness, then there will be no more anime for anyone else.

Yeah, i was looking into buying an arcade machine (no, im not going to buy one) and the price was around 8-12k for a SINGLE PLAYER dance pad. Single player is kinda silly in the arcade, better off getting the double.

Its not like the other coin-ops.. alot larger. But w/ ddr the machine is occupied nearly all the time. It draws crowds into the arcade, crowds which then plop 2 quarters into another game :)

We were tooling with the idea of buying a DDR machine, renting some space in the local mall and just throwing it in there, and see what happens.

So, whats w/ the cultural differences? Ive lived on the east coast my entire life, and i sure as hell love to bust out my ddr skills on a mad afronova or butterfly upswing another routine. Maybe just cuz of how uptight eastcoasters are. But man, when your on stage playin ddr, and you look good... its such an ego boost.. that and it gets gamers to lose weight. the HORROR.. Games like dance dance revolution, beatmania, and guitar freaks are tons of fun. They are the most original arcade games to come out in the past five years, and they are addictive as all hell. Only problem is america seems to have a heavy anti-bemani sentiment.. finding an arcade on the east coast with bemani games is near impossible, while in cali, there are dozens :( Ah well, dance dance revolution usa mix should be out for psx, i need to check up on that. It all started with Mortal Kombat, but today that is tame compared to some of the blood and death games out there, where children are desensitised to death in the same way that soldiers are trained to be. How can this be right? Children are innocent, and that time in their lives is unique and should be cherished, not thrown away watching people having their entrails ripped out.

This is totally unwarrented. I used to be a very hardcore gamer and if it has taught me something it is fear and respect for weapons. I know the damage they can do, and frankly.. it scares the crap out of me. Would you rather have a society familiar with the horrors of warfare? or one who lives in ignorance of the situation?

  18. why computers are not good for kids on Kids and Computers · · Score: 2

I took a "computers and education" class back in college. It was an awesome class, lots of discussion and arguments. We were a vocal, fun, active group. Anyways, one of the main conclusions of the class were that computers were NOT good for the children of america from a health standpoint. (radiation etc) Due to the logic base of computers, the value of computers an education is often misleading. Examples abound of children who were able to pass the computer exam with flying colors but then when questioned by a teacher or peer, drew a total blank on understanding the subject.

Anyone who has any interest in computers and education needs to read "failure to connect" by jeane healy. Im not sure if i spelled her name correctly. She outlines the basic problems with computers introduced at a young age, 5-9 y/o. This should be required reading for anyone who is looking into computers in the classroom. There are ALOT of problems that develop from computer use at an extremely young age.

Take a look at region 1, royal space force/ wings of honneamise dvd and say that again. Same with eva01 and another large handful of anime dvds. The quality of anime DVD ranges from the flawless transfers of lain, bebop and mononoke to the absolute CRAP transfer of Wings of Honneamise.

Just like any other medium, not all the anime disks are going to be flawless.

I am looking forward to the dvd release of the newer digital anime titles. Blue6 was gorgeous eyecandy, i cant wait to see how lovehina and vandread turn out. With these titles being nearly 100% digitally animated (i know it doesnt look like it, but it is) were going to see some amazing transfers. Who knows, maybe the animators still have the origional final render and they can just convert the damn thing to dvd-format like the bugslife transfer. VHS is too integrated and it took ages for DVD to take off.. the only place this could possibly succeed is in the broadcast market (Where many still use betamax) even then, copyprotecting seems a bit pointless.

And why cant i just do d-vhs out to video-card in? eh? oh wait. you have to buy a specially liscened player. People already dont want to spend the extra cash on HDTV, they wont spend the extra money on something that doesnt work with their current system.

  24. why anime on tv is good. on More Anime Washing Ashore In 2001 · · Score: 3

I see alot of people in this thread complaining about mangled and edited anime on tv.

Anime on tv, regardless if its edited or not, is a good thing. Its not like they are keeping you from seeing the original un-edited versions. Just go out and buy the dvds. What these tv showings of Blue6 and Tenchi do is expose more people to anime. More anime fans (even newbies) means more money for anime companies, which means more money for buying rights to shows like vandread! (good thing)

Ive heard of a few experiences of people liking escaflowne on fox (even the mangled version) buying the first dvd and being amazed by it. (esca first episode was basically skipped by the fox broadcast).

If it makes you guys feel better, anime companies are not part of the MPAA, and after talking to some of the studio peeps, dont even like region encoding or macrovision.

So please stop complaining. America already has the least expensive anime in the world. Titles are upwards of 60$ a disc in japan. You also get both audio tracks and some other bonuses.

December was qiute the month in the anime dvd area.
