The cause for the lack of diversified games is not bob-the coders fault. Its the marketroids and the suits. They find out which kind of arcade/videogame sells the most copies, then mimic that game with a few tweaks.
This annoys me to no end. I went to a dave 'n busters a few weeks ago (the one in the DC area) and they only had two kinds of games. Racing games and gun games, neither of which im very fond of. It was so irritating.
The only new games im enjoying are the dancing ones (dance dance revolution and bust-a-moove/groove) Unfortunatly, the east coast has their head stuck up their ass when it comes to these games, so ive got no clue as to where to find an arcade machine locally. Last I heard there was one in Philly, but thats too far for a daytrip.
And people wonder why the arcade buisness is going to shit. Diversify maaaan!
The first time rollerskate arena's came into popularity they were lambasted as being demonic temples where child rapists gather to rape the children at play.
when comic books were popularized, there was a massive campaign against them. They formed the comic code that many people still adhere to, but most dont.
I used to have an essay i did on this for my entertainment in america class. I was the only gamer in the class and i was constantly on the defense over topics like quake clans and fighting games.
Gee look. something that brings different people all over the world together in a friendly competition. BUT ITS EEVUUL. most of them havnt even played any games but were trashing doom and quake as worthless garbage.
oops, im ranting..
Anyway, there is nothing unfamiliar about the trouble popular media has with videogames. It will calm down in a few years.
Sorry katz, this isnt the revolution your looking for... move along.
why couldnt they just do both?
The cost of running napster is considerably low (in comparison)
But if you pay the five bux you get SUPERNAP! which GAURENTEES highspeed highquality downloads better organized and categorized then the stuff presently on ~lowly napster.
I agree with the AC. They are making you pay 5$ a month, and not putting ANY hardware costs on their part. They dont have to pay for bandwidth, (limited to napster.com) drivespace, support, or any of the other standard costs that come with an internet based service.
I WILL NOT pay for a service that doesnt gaurentee a product. I could download an mp3 of "theme to ducktales" and get a recording of a women orgasming (this happened. was very funny)
im not complaining about this file..
Im more concerned with the lack of resposibility on the RIAA if they charge for napsters service.
Wanna make money? fine. spam cd sales on napster, but unless you are going to set up an ftp or something w/ files i KNOW are correct, im not going to pay you a fucking dime.
Lets see.. as of sunday there are 250 episodes of the simpsons.
so lets say 250 episodes at 24 mins each (a good estimate for removing commercials)
thats 6000 mins of simpsons, which comes out to ~100 hours..
i belive there are about 50 episodes of southpark (guessing)
at 24 mins each that comes out to 20 hours...
....
damn thats alot of space..
Actually, the "Playstation" was origionally designed to be a cd-rom for the snes. There were some... complications.. and sony decided to release the psx on its own... Check your snes for an unused port, it was there for the psx. (has anyone ever utilized this port for anything?)
I know posts similar to this have been made on many other occasions on slashdot, but I just want to play devils advocate here.
There is a distinct difference between a jock and an athlete. An athlete is a person who enjoys sports. A Jock is someone who enjoys sports and is an asshole about it.
Jocks tend to be the overly macho bloated head dickhead fuckfaces that I felt like tossing into an industrial size blender and hitting puree.. You know the type.
Athletes I dont mind.. I had several friends who were on sports teams that were cool.
It could also be used to isolate the artist even more, and direct cashflow back into the RIAA. Napster; Like DeCSS, a crowbar, and a kitchen knife, is just a tool and can be used for good things or bad things.
I wouldnt pay for napster either, but for very different reasons.
There is no quality gaurentee AT ALL. People can rename files, cut mp3s short, and all the other clever shit.
If they want to charge me for mp3 files, thats fine.. just make it a giant ftp I can leech from. Id pay 9.95$ a month for access to an mp3 archive of all of BMG or some other record companies "intellectual property."
But charging for p2p, cmon.. there is very little burden for the record companies.. they dont have to pay for storage space OR BANDWIDTH. it comes with no quality gaurentee.. basically napster would be a pay-search engine. Gimme a break. If you want to charge me, you should gaurentee quality in some way.
I thought they showed all of it, didnt they? I Dont watch much anime on tv.
Dance Dance Revolution!

DDR is obviously the answer to this problem.
If you havnt played/seen/heard of ddr.. check it out sometime. Its basically dancing kereoke. Music plays and arrows scroll across the screen, and you have to step on the right arrow in time to the music.
sounds silly, but its tons of fun. AND ITS EXERCIZE. Ive lost a good 10 pounds playing this game...
Now if I could only pass La Senorita...:/
Does anyone else remember the calvin and hobbess comic where Calvin dreams of blowing his school into smitherines with a missle via his f-15 fighter jet?
Watterson recieved alot of nasty mail for that one back BEFORE this hysteria..
He made the obvious and wise comment in the 10th anniversary book that every kid dreams of blowing up his school. Hell, i know i did at the time. Maybe if school didnt suck so much..
just imagine what it would be like if that comic was printed now?
I remember reading, a while ago, about these copyrighted designs being shared on the internet. To order the patterns was mind-boggingly expensive, so all the sewing enthusiats began sharing their patters.
The rabid lawyers went to work, managed to destroy a few people's lives, made a bunch of money, and were compleatly unaffective.
Im just picturing grannie with her l33t 0-d4y s3w1nG w4reZ.
I think shawn fanning (napster) said this..
if you are selling water in the desert, and it starts to rain, you better start selling something else.. like umbrellas.
The only music from escaflowne that was blatently changed was the intro and ending. However, fox has been given permission to re-arrange kanno's other songs as they see fit, but not remove anything entirely.
Im just going to buy the DVDs with the origional japanese track and all the yummy extras and be done with it. This bickering about esca edits on TV bother me. If you dont like it, buy the dvds and dont watch the show.
Esca on tv brings more fans over to anime and therefor more cash into the anime industry, securing the continued creation of such mastery. (or something equally cliche)
All-in-all, quality big name anime titles on amercian tv is a Good Thing, it can only help the fans.
Moonstar of limbo! give me the might! the magic! the muscle! of mon...STAR! [evil laugh]
Wow, I hope I get Cartoon Network at my new apartment. (if i get a new apartment) Damn local cable company makes you pay an extra 10$ a month for sci-fi, CN, and CourtTV.

Didnt Lain already do this?
Ever see a tv commercial on CNN? Look at the negative unrealistic stereotypical portrayals of female actions and of the female body on there.
This idea is in every medium. Not just in videogames.
cixel you sucka. why arnt you on irc anymore? msg me on efnet. bitch.

Am I the only person on slashdot that sees "DDR" and instantly thinks of jumping around on arrows to bad japanese pop music?
I love that game
You have been invited to participate in the JUSTICE SQUAD.. at the Fortress of rights!..
ersmthn.. what is that simpsons quote?
gascious alien.. euwwwwwwww. stinky.
what would happen if you inhaled it?
Ooohhh.. so all you would have to do to take down these remote-controlled-ships is sing!
too bad you will get shot if you do that.
Its moment's like this when I realize my own obsessions are not so extreme.
Japanese fandom is frightning, but amusing.

Thats how they were released in japan. One episode per disc, at about 30$ a disc. If you look you can find the domestic discs for 11 or 12$
stop complaining, we have it better then the japanese when it comes to the cost of anime.
I thought they showed all of it, didnt they? I Dont watch much anime on tv.
