  1. Re:Just Looking Up a License Plate Number? on "Mobile Plate Hunter" Cameras Raise Questions · · Score: 1

I'm gonna have to start dressing like the Lone Biker of the Apocalypse or Spawn or something when I go riding...but that also gives credence to "Loud Pipes Save Lives"...course, that applies more to me than to you, given the respective styles of our motorcycles.

And it seems to me that some people think that "blind spots" are places you can't see at all...but it only refers to your mirrors. The only people who have a legitimate gripe about that are truckers, and most of them do pretty dang good on being cautious.

I drove a big '87 Crown Vic for about 8 years, and the only times I "didn't see someone" were when I was driving like a shithead and not paying enough attention. I don't make a habit of riding in blind spots, but if you're changing lanes, you are the person breaking status quo and thusly you are responsible for injury caused by your action. So turn your head further next time, jackass!

Aye, but copies of such documents would enable you to take liquid cash assets. Thusly, an obvious conspiracy to steal real property (well, as real as money is, anyway, and also credit in general). Copying a film or album isn't the same, since it isn't depriving anyone of said film or album. And who's to say that someone would buy the album if it weren't for the price of free?

Besides, art (true art) should be for the betterment and enjoyment of society. And most great artists of the past were commissioned to create their great works, which are now available for everyone to enjoy. Another outdated business model? Maybe. But it's more populist in an art context. Even 50 years ago, you could hear Pat Boone and Little Richard do the same song their own way and they weren't paying royalties (and neither were you). Now you can't even sample one riff from anything without having someone barking up your ass for their cut (which in my case, they are welcome to 100% of $0).

I don't have a problem going to see a band I like and paying for the concert to support them, but at the same time, I am not going to pay and arm and a leg for an album, of which the artists themselves might only see a pinky toe.

Well, it's simple. You just look at the frequency of homosexuality (or heterosexuality) in pedophiles. Pretty straight forward: the frequency is about the same. Perhaps all men are not "created" equal, but they certainly should enjoy the right to be treated with equal regard unless they have done something warranting otherwise.

Stem cell research is highly politicized, yet it's still quite legitimate science. Faith != Science. It's a philosophy, which is trumped by science.

Because both of those things are about as easy as it is for a biologically white man to "be lead down the path" to becoming biologically black, just by looking at some pictures.

Arguably, there is nothing you couldn't brainwash someone to do, but simply viewing an image, accidentally, isn't going to change you, other than perhaps inducing MORE revulsion at child porn in normal people.

Besides, there are few places on the normal internet where you just "oops, porn!" Racy ads, perhaps, but I was under the impression that the only prude in Australia is John Howard, and he's on his way out.

    homosexuality and then pedophilia?
These are completely uncorrelated psychological conditions...psychologists and sociologists have proven this.

  21. Re:So, stop bitching on RIAA Writes Its Own News For Local TV · · Score: 2, Interesting

Heh, I like to sing. I can guarantee you don't want to hear me sing. Liking, even loving to do something, doesn't mean you are good at it. So far, most of the independent music I've hear around here sucks horribly, and most even comes out worse than the bottom of the barrel in the RIAA crowd. The last set I went to was horrible. Only one group had potential, then the lead singer opened his mouth and started spewing the most retarded lyrics I have ever heard, with one of the worst singing (shouting?) voices I had ever heard.
Depends where you're coming from...there were quite a few righteously bodacious bands in my locale (til they broke up due to graduating college, infighting, etc). I think a lot of indie bands suffer from a low budget and lack of production skills like mixing and mastering. I'm fairly good at DIY, but I'm in electronic music, which is WAY easier to produce than your old school four/five piece rock band.

Another point to consider is that a LOT of music out there is dreck (RIAA sponsored or otherwise). I've seen/played with some very shitty bands (even my own has been crap on occasion...hard to find good AND dedicated musicians, and I can't do everything by myself on stage). I mean, you make affordable digital cameras with decent onboard editing software (or Photoshop on the computer) and everyone thinks they're Ansel Adams...but there are indeed a few unknown wonders out there. Same goes for music and music production software. Diamond in the rough, etc.

But I agree with GP, as I find that bands who are really into the music and performing it are a lot more entertaining. I've also seen bands that don't seem to give a shit. But when you do it because you want to, I think you tend to produce fewer "filler"/crap tracks. The same might be true for some contracted bands, but then again, they have contracts to fulfill and truly awesome music can't always be created under a deadline.

  25. Re:Porta! on What Is Your Game of the Year? · · Score: 1

I'd go with Orange Box overall, as I immensely loved Portal (despite it being sadly too short), and TF2 is also hilarious in that lovely black humor way. My gaming box died (mobo), so I've been without it for a couple weeks now. I heard they have Companion Cube plushies now, too...

I'm gonna chuck in a vote for Hitman: Blood Money as well. I saw an ad for it in Germany last summer, and was super excited. It had all the fun stuff of its predecessors and a WHOLE lot more. Very sneaky. Excellent soundtrack. I just wish the mission weapon selection was more like Contracts, in that you could bring as many handguns and other concealable guns as you wanted and one long gun, instead of one handgun, one SMG, and one long gun. I can't do that il Duce thing anymore without whacking a diverse number of badguys. :(
