That article, which IMHO, shouldn't have been published in the first place, has no place being called business news. At best, it's an OpEd (Editorial Opinion) piece. But best does not apply to this fellows opinion. He appears not to know the Linux community at all and has no right to attempt to place blame like that. Mr. Evans, if you're in NYC, feel free to contact me and we can discuss this in person...
I have RoadRunner service in Queens (NY), and it's been a relatively pleasant experience as far as ISPs go. I used to deal with Interport for dial-up, but they were scarfed up by RCN and the service really went downhill (as did their customer service). Aside from a couple of minor outages early last year, probably due to the fact that the service was new to the neighborhood, I've been happy with, and would recommend going with RoadRunner. I've dealt professionally with Metro Fiber Systems, the telco that did the fiber for RCN, and a lot of their tech people were a bunch of lamers who always had to call the boss at home for help... There's no love lost between me and AOL/TWC and RCN, as they've both handed me some lousy business, so I've evaluated this from my technical/professional experience with both firms... Good luck (with your moving too), -Jerry
It would be nice if ABC had placed a comment/feedback button after Moody's disinformation campaign, like/. and ZDNET. But they probably wouldn't know what to do with the truth...
I would like to see two things... 1) A hackable version at a reasonable price ($199 or so). 2)A standard version where the browser has a plugin to read Adobe Acrobat PDF files. Many interesting documents are online in this format. I'd wanted to get an i-opener for my father-in-law as I know he'd be very interested in reading the stuff the FBI has released under the FOIA. But, Netpliance has told me there's no plan for such a plugin... Arghh!
If the system uses a GPS satellite (and it could be done by other methods also), they'll be able to sneak in a subsystem to tell where you're going/where you've been. Big Brother will be watching. This should never be implemented, anywhere! Hopefully the British public will be so outraged by this that they'll (s)quash the idea. A small reminder:

IMHO, organizations should not be granted patents for genes/DNA sequences that they have not developed themselves. For example, taking the crop of the cocoa farmer in Ghana, and then isolating the genes responsible for the flavor, and patenting them, is blatant theft. They did not develop the genes, the "merely" isolated them. I cannot argue with the fact that some organizations have contributed to the good of the planet and they are entitled to protection for the results of THEIR labor. But to claim the results of another persons labor as your own in this manner is theft and plagiarism. This license to steal must be stopped. Anybody have any ideas on how a private citizen can help prevent these treaties?

Well, take the i-opener off my wish list. With the ISP part, anyway...

I must agree on 2 points - 1) (Most)politicians are clueless about the Internet (and computers) 2) It should be gop.org
