    For audio recording, get one with breakout box housing a/d converter externally.

    But I also have a few old ensoniq cards without external box that record and play pretty clean signal, and they were pretty cheap back when bought.

    The political dimension is something publicly-funded science will have to live with.

    My main point, though, is that there is no pressure for quality floor because the system inherently encourages ever more paper and ever more esoteric obscure journals, i.e, more and more junk papers that rarely ever get verified/challenged, all subsidized by the research grants.

    You don't know Java.

    EE is bunch of specs, not a part of language to be implemented in the VM.

    Perl people (Parrot) would be the last ones, and by that I mean HELL NO, to produce anything as useful and comprehensive as the worst of the Java universe, including the god-awful JEB idiocy. At least the JEB idiots got it out the door.

    I hope Gosling would start up a project to continue Java lifeline. If there is a single software project that can measure up to Linux, it would be Java.

    Fits my experience. I passed thru one of them specialty engineering schools and one of them ivy schools.

    And Stanford engineering in the 80s didn't have the reputation it does today.
