Seriously, our South African version of Statelite TV does not have DBZ or any other anime for that matter... it get's advertised the whole time, but when the time comes, something inane takes it's place!
People who read Slashdot have better music taste anyway.
This is exactly the problem: so does the people who use Napster and Gnutella. The only reason they download certains songs is because they don't want to pay for crap.
But if the RIAA (who is watching me...) was clever, they would see this as an oportunity to infiltrate people with good taste, with bad music, and therefore further increasing profits.
I think it was Junet, (or Maro?) Not sure. Yep, he did the one Alien in adition to the Delicatessen and "City of lost children".
I still preferred the French films... (and not because of foreign hype...)
He also re-used Ron Perlman.. (btw)
As for battles with Hollywood, mayby people should look at Brazil by director "Terry Gilliam", and his Criterian collection of Brazil's "Battle of Brazil" which is a documentary of their stuggle against Hollywood basically raping the original Brazil movie for the American consumer. (I'm actually a great Gilliam and Tom Stoppard fan)
As for Rosencrants and Guildenstern are dead, that was done by Stoppard (recently did the pitiful "Shakespeare in Love"), but he also had a hand in the scripty of Brazil. It's worth a look.
As for Pi... it's an american film, but not mainstream... kinda watches like a Nine Inch Nails video. It's messages had alot of thought behind it, even though it was not technically clear, but that did not matter much... The messages it had was similar in insight to some things in "Godel, Echer, Bach - The Eternal Golden Braid". You will like it if you enjoy pulp science and phiilosophy. (Plus music was done my "Pop will eat itself" band member)
Who cares about the oscars-pat-each-other-on-the-back function that takes place every year.
There are MANY international movies that are MORE worthy of awards. That's why I would rather trust Cannes and such.
Movies like: "Faraway so Close" "Wings of Desire"
of which City of Lost Angels is a poor remake is just one example.
There are movies like: "Rosenkrants and Guildenstern are Dead" "Run Lola Run" "City of Lost Children" "Delicatessen" "Pi" "Doberman" "Scent of Green Papaya" "Dead Man" "Animals"
Which did not get the recognition they deserve. Yes, so they aren't all mainstream, but there are at least one or two eligible for an oscar.
-Sigh-

Anyone who thinks we are trying to control reviews and such are jumping on a bandwagon without really giving it proper consideration. Legally, that's entirely impossible -- but then, most people know less about law than they do making ice.;-)
This policy/agreement simply allows fan sites to use our trademarks and copyright character art, etc. Most developers/publishers do not allow this at all. End of story. We are providing a way for them to do so, though. Lay people, of course, read this policy and become panic mongers. This policy is only for owners of web sites who wish to use our trademarks and copyrights, like www.3dportal.com. Somehow, someone found a link to it and of course jumps to the wrong conclusion, because...hey...it then can become a hot topic.
Also, screen shots are covered by free speech--another fact that people who've made ignorance-based assumptions on this issue do not know...but now you're part of the minority who can help defeat the madness. (It's a tough job...just warning you. )
We might need to make it more clear that reviews are--of course!--not what concern us (nor could we legally prevent negative reviews--that's patently absurd). It's to stop web sites from using our logos next to overly foul, abusive, racist, etc. language or art. For example, we would not allow our logos to be used on a KKK site. BTW, this page was not for public view, and was a work-in-progress.
Thanks for understanding.

Although I have an NVidia and am rooting for it wholeheartedly, I sometimes feel a bit uneasy about their success... they are so far ahead now that there is nearly no competition, and we all know what comes thereafter : stagnation.
I really hope the 3dfx people come up with something better than FSAA (even though it looks very cool on some games) and incredibly fast fill rates.
At this time the only game that rates Voodoo better than TNT is Unreal... and that only due to the fact that it was written solely for Unreal, and later ported... it prob. uses a lot of CPU as well... compared to other games that practically only use the GFX card.
Com-on Voodoo... I'm getting 160+ FPS on Q3A demo001 (800x600)!!! on my GeForce 1 / Athlon 700 machine...
There is a project under a GPL licence with which you can build RAD GUI applications for Python that will run on win32 and Linux... It is currently quite alpha, but you can already do some nifty things with it... It may even be competition for Linux Delphi... -ponder- Go HERE .
Their binary-compatibility monopoly will crumble-crumble. So proud of binary reusability, and this will be their greatest weakness.
Everyone will have to develop binaries for all platforms, a split here will cause loss in focus. And since all drivers and stuff are always in binary form... well. I'm sure all the big hardware manufacturers will have new drivers out pretty soon, but I don't want to be forced into any group of products, but rather choose what I view as the best.
1.Run Regedit 2.Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ MediaPlayer \ Player \ Settings 3.Create a new string EnableDVDUI 4.Give it a value of yes 5.The next time you start the Media Player, you can do a File / Open DVD
You should also be able to convert the output of DeCSS to mpeg, but I've never had the need to research that. DeCSS only removed the encryption, and therefore also the zoning. One has to find out the format of VOB files first, and since this is not a 'normal' format, you may have some trouble.
I usually use remote selector on my driver and player. Do a search for that, and I'm sure there may be related information hanging around there... there was last time, but I did not really care to read more. You may also want to follow LiViD developments, as they are basically working on the same thing... They have source for a player that can play raw VOB files from Linux AFAIK.
Hope this helps.

You can find software here , that will open you machine up to malicious VB scripts, randomly lose data through crashes and cops you alot of money... Please DON'T use this on your friends or ENEMIES, as it is highly illegal to do illegal stuff.
Please remove this exploit of Microsoft from slashdot, Microsoft would rather only let the dangerous criminals know of this, and not their general user base.... :)
If microsoft were just good slahdot readers, and posted good things sometimes (like, actually give something good back to the comunity), they would have had enough moderator privelidges to moderate all those articles into oblivion.
Why not add a moderator option : "millenium copyright act violation", only able to be overriden by slashdot internal staff.
Just a tought... a better option than : "Gee, I've got alot of money, let's get lawers and sue someone" (c) Microsoft.

It seems a bit redundand, even if they are distributing binaries.

Hmm... 1st post?
no.
In fact, to keep things more intuitive and descriptive, one would need to do:
something.uk.eu, giving rise to unneeded extraneous data '.eu'.
It's nice though... but that's what apeals to politicians.
