Its not about caring. Its about providing a compelling product. Linux appliances will be compelling products, either in providing a cheaper entry or more liberty, both cases increasing value. Has nothing ot do with 'caring'. Provide a superior product in all ways, and the people will come. Save your betamax argument, it wasnt superior in all ways.
I dont think you understand how fast the floor is rising. The ONLY people that can get away with locking hardware in the consumer space right now is companies that enjoy government monopoly protection (patent, copyright, telecom/cable)
The important part is that when we send food and supplies, part of the supplies should be education tech. Its going to take a very long time to raise the floor in Africa, but tech modestly and intelligently applied will make incredibly widespread progress.
The mark of an artist is mastery of his medium. If his buildings dont last, i would say thats a huge mark against him. True architectural art is functional, practical and beautiful.
The problem is there are too many chefs to make a truly unified media center. You have to pick the features you want and either they fit on one box or you get a switcher.
Its an assault on freedom when the entire purpose media playback was removed was to funnel you to their services. Its insulting, demeaning and petty as hell. There is NO REASON other then greed for this decision. Its a huge 'fuck you'.
Yep. The no media playing is a huge fuck you to the consumers. It has an EIGHT CORE hUMA CPU, it cant play music and movies? WHAT THE FUCK? It changed my Day 1 order to 'ill get it when the hot Sony exclusives come out.'
Its shocking how you conflate these ideas. the engineering principles that go into serving up itunes is VASTLY different then making autonomous vehicle code. THe people who work on autonomous cars have very different backgrounds and degrees then those that design music websites. No one cares if you lose a podcast, its not anywhere near the scrutiny machine code gets.
"About 30% of my searches on Google return a "You searched for A, did you mean B" result. In about half of those instances, I actually get "You searched for A, here are the results for B." So with a Google car, I'm more likely to arrive at the destination safely, but about 15% of the time it will not be the destination I requested, but some other location based on some SW engineer assuming I don't know where I want to go."
If you fail to human verify your results before embarking, that is your own fault. Searching for information is a negotiation, the more precise data you put in, the more favorable your results will be. You cant be a moron and expect it to do everything. The only problem you described is that you cant accurately communicate to the system your intentions.
All personal cars will have self-drive fallback, but there will be roads that wont allow you to self-drive on them. Eventually you will only be able to self-drive on a track or in emergencies (which are logged).
Its ready NOW. The tech is ready, the people are ready, the politicians and business is NOT ready. We have an incredible fuck-ton of social bullshit to slog through before we will get truly viable, awesome autonomous transport. WE could convert all the carpool lanes into autonomous only tomorrow, wall it off from normal traffic with a barrier and those cars could easily go 100 MPH with incredible safety. Politics and social change will take far longer then the tech will to fully mature.
Its an increasingly relevant part of their job NOW, TODAY. If you are a journalist investigating sensitive stuff, and you dont know how to encrypt, you are an utter failure and should find a new line of work.
Wait, you think it is appropriate to induce terror in a man who has not been convicted of any crime? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? You catch a man, you hold him in a cell until his trial. You dont get to torture someone you have no legal proof of any wrongdoing.
Perhaps you should re-evaluate the term 'public'. If you speak in public to where i can hear it, there is no ethical problem. I have no duty to you to inform you i can hear your conversation, that is your burden. Learn to speak in private or dont get upset when others listen.
All Obama has to do is ORDER the men UNDER HIS COMMAND to abandon the base. Is he Commander-in-Chief or not? Gitmo is an abomination and Obama does have the authority to close it, but he refuses.
What you pointed out is that Linux appliances are on the rise. A Steam Machine really shouldnt be a general purpose workstation. It CAN be, but it introduces insane amounts of complexity.
Just to put it out there, i have seen 3 xbox360s hooked up playing a single game across 3 monitors. Here is another example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RhdCsvsvA0 Im firmly PC master race all the way, but yes i have seen xboxes force multiply like PCs can, albeit in a very limited way.

You are right, Linux desktop is a dead end. Linux APPLIANCES are going to be huge.

Core 2 Quad is 3 generations old already. It sucks down power and puts out heat. Upgrade to Sandy Bridge or above.

Did it ever occur to you that the transmission is fly-by-wire and that a fault in the system would mean that putting the car in neutral does nothing?

Thats like saying we need individual roads for every home delivery service......Public owned conduit solves that nicely.

Its a petty distinction. Any man that finds umbrage in that is only fooling himself. Blank or no, they participated in a cold-blooded homicide.
There is a VAST difference with him ordering troops under his command and me. The President has no power over me, individually as a King would.

War requires nation-states. We are not at war.
You mean like we all did with consoles when we were kids......

You are an idiot. You use the NFC connection to HANDSHAKE THE BLUETOOTH connection.
