I think you mean Surface 3 PRO. The Surface 3 has no fan.I have a Surface 3 and I will admit its a compromise between laptop and tablet. I bought it for use in the field with my DSLR, and in that use case it absolutely excels. I don't type on it a lot, so I didn't even get the overpriced keyboard (seriously I can buy whole computers for less than that thing) Its not all things to all people, but it is a great piece of tech.
Actually we are deep into an Information Age, the study of robot ethics is a thing. Not long ago we were talking about how autonomous cars will decide who to kill when presented with a no-win scenario. That is robot ethics.
We want it because we know it can be done trivially and the ISPs are holding back. We want it because its feasible, it doesnt have to be entirely practical.
This is like saying room air conditioners are just as good as central air because you are the only user....Households often have more than one person....
Networks fall over, im ok with the bulk of the collection (old stuff) going down from time to time, which it does. I keep a local set of the newest stuff so that it ALWAYS WORKS no matter what. Its layered functionality. I maintain one set of highly curated and organized movies, and use different 'faces' to serve it, the current faces being Plex and Kodi. Its really not that complicated. Local storage is SUPER cheap right now, dropping $20 per machine on a 64 GB drive is trivial.
Keep in mind not just serving for me, but other people too at remote sites too, and not everyone has Plex sync or wants to pay for it. Its really easy to hand my relatives a $5 flash drive when i see them at family gatherings, instead of maintaining a hole in their networks so i can upload stuff.
This is a system i have come up with after long trial and error. I got sick of traveling and not being able to reach my home server for one reason or another, so i added sneakernet to the mix. I would be happy to discuss it more if you are really interested. The entire point was to not have to rely on a any single service or protocol, even TCP/IP.
The OTHER option is to do nothing. I would expect us to explore and document how Mars is in its natural state before ever even discussing terrasforming of ANY kind. Its hubris and ego that we are even talking about it at all. The first 50 years of mars exploration should be observation and research only. After that THEN we can talk about terraforming.
Because i dont like be tied to any one tech or company. I store older movies in a streaming setup on Plex on a single server feeding all clients, all 'new release' movies are stored locally on each device delivered via sneakernet. I keep a rolling set of new releases sized to a storage medium available for a good price. Right now im up to a 64 GB ($20) set of new releases. New releases fall off of sneakernet and into Plex after a year or two
uhhh no.Plex is what Kodi would look like if they went for monetization. I like Plex, i have a lifetime sub, but at some point they will go over the evil wall and thats why its great Kodi is there. I use both extensively. Plex for remote stuff, Kodi for local.
I dont understand why its so hard to turn transcoding off. My ARM-based NAS can install plex natively, but its useless because the clients will request tanscoding and the app shits itself.
Are you using your imac as a personal machine as well as a PMS server? Wifi or wired? My DEDICATED Plex server on wired gigabit works flawlessly. Set it up as a proper server, not just another service on your personal workstation if you want the best results. Workstations have a ridiculous amount of cruft for the user that can break server applications. Its fine if Plex doesnt work for you, but calling it crap based on your limited experience is wrong.
I have screens that mechanically mate with the pi from adafruit, and they are great, but they take special custom Raspbian to make it work and consume most of the GPIO. I have the adafruit kippah mated to a 7" 40 pin screen and i also have a 3.5" resistive touch screen Pi hat. Another thing you are overlooking is its hard to find CAPACITIVE touch in this size, most of it is resistive. I physically own the hardware you describe and i am excited about this new screen. The DSI interface and capacitive touch make it very interesting to me.
The LEGAL meaning for copyright infringement cannot by definition include the word 'stealing'. It is YOU who are wordsmithing. Infringement is not theft, it simply is not the correct term, you cannot use it in that context without being ABSOLLUTELY wrong.
I curse Energy Star all the time. Monitors should not turn off after 3 seconds of no signal. I fight with EVERY linux install because X.org thinks terminals should always blank. Its maddening.
This is a shit analogy that breaks down fast. Tools are an INCREDIBLY important part of what the finished product will end up being. You should stop using this as an argument.
The problem is we have all these shiny new hammers are are desperately looking for nails. I have a $10 wifi-enabled arduino coming tomorrow. Its so cheap, I feel I HAVE to wire up something with it. IM going to make a quick little solar powered temp and humidity sensor, which isn't terribly unique on its own. What makes it compelling is how much functionality I can get for such a tiny price. Hell, it can run a 5 person minecraft server. If it fries up in the sun, who cares, we can build version 2.0 for next to nothing. We are at the point where we can wire up almost anything to the internet for super cheap. I agree that the IoT hype is stupid, but we will find some killer uses for having cheap sensors and connectivity everywhere.
The problem is not everyone agrees what is a lie........hence the problem. Above all, the right to speak should be protected. You don't have to listen.
" Just because a lot of people misuse a term doesn't change the meaning of the word." Actually, this is wrong. Dictionaries don't 'define' words, they are a record of USAGE. As a word is used more and more, it becomes eligible to be included in the dictionary. A lot of people misusing a word can cause it to change meaning.
The last decade we have gained MASSIVELY in efficiency and cost. IM typing this on an Intel NUC I picked up at retail for $129, $10 of RAM, $25 keyboard with touchpad and $5 class 10 SD card. All running a free OS that recognized all the hardware and automatically installed it including Bluetooth and WiFi. Lost decade, give me a break.
I run a 770 GTX and an i5-2500k in a RVZ-01 mini-itx system using a 450 SFX PSU. Absolutely rock solid. Cooling is really only an issue if you want to overclock, stock parts generally run cool enough. IT sits on top of my desk right next to me.

On what logic do you base this, or did you pull that number from your arse?
We want it because we know it can be done trivially and the ISPs are holding back. We want it because its feasible, it doesnt have to be entirely practical.
We are neck deep into an Information Age, these are not crazy speeds. Every home should have 1 GB SYMMETRICAL for $50/mo by now.

An automatic dishwasher is more for sanitizing than removing the mechanical aspects of hand washing.

This is easily solved by using a separate router and Wifi AP.
I curse Energy Star all the time. Monitors should not turn off after 3 seconds of no signal. I fight with EVERY linux install because X.org thinks terminals should always blank. Its maddening.
200w at idle? What the hell are you running? You really should think about offloading those services to a micro-server.
