The difference being that its not jsut geeks and the rich that are now buying this stuff now. Thats why we are talking about it from this angle. Keep in mind we have LEGIONS of people with devices in thier hand that they have absolutely no clue how it actually works. That is what is new and different.
If users cant reasonably secure their own services they shouldn't be running them! All the power and none of the responsibility is a recipe for disaster every time.
I PERSONALLY would have a problem killing Osama Bin Laden (in cold blood) because I have no direct personal proof he did anything. I have reports from others, but that is not enough for me to take a life, ever. You seem more than willing to kill a man solely on the word of others. What actual personal proof do you have that Osama Bin Laden deserved death? News reports are NOT proof of anything. The problem is, who decides who leaves the human race and who stays? You? Society? Your government? What happens if society decides you should leave the human race? Do you fight or accept it?
It always fascinates me that people can deal out death like its nothing. Do you ever stop and think that it could be your head on the chopping block someday?
Copyright is a social bargain so your use of entitlement is not as derisive as you would like it to be. We ARE entitled access to works after a limited time
I disagree that intel is anything to worry about. They dont even offer some of the simplest features that are found in the nvidia/AMD software suites. They are NOWHERE near the discrete cards in terms of features and options. Performance might be there, but they still dont 'get' graphics from the discrete perspective. I had to change my Steam streaming client box design from Intel to AMD after finding out Intel doesnt offer even proper scaling and overscan adjustments. Intel HD is a joke and if I had an i7-R model i would be PISSED at the lack of options in the driver suite. Sent from my Intel i3 NUC with Intel HD graphics......
WHAT? AMD cards run a LOT hotter. For the last 2 years i have been trying to design low power systems, and AMD isnt even on the table save for AM1 and the mid range cards,7770/R7 260. The nvidia that melted your mac is the same nvidia chip that melted in tons of laptops and that was quite awhile ago. AMD performance per watt is terrible compared to Nvidia.
I would just like to point out that Amendments can be repealed...Government granted ITSELF this right, im not so sure if we directly asked the people if they would actually be for the 16th amendment.
TL:DR: the 16th would never pass today.
We want them to start putting the OS on its OWN memory space, while having a full 8 GB of the user to use. Apple could do this easily without ruining their profit margins. hey are purposefully holding back on flash memory and we shouldnt just sit back and take it. The profit rake from memory is OBSCENE right now.
Copyright is a social bargain. WE THE PEOPLE grant limited exclusive licenses, with the expectation of payment via Public Domain when the work's copyright expires (limited time). The copyright side of the equation has spent the last hundred years shoring up their position to the point where limited has come to mean anything less than infinity. Its time to dial them back. EVERY citizen has skin in this game. You cant have maximal copyright in an Information Age, it is simply impossible.
Copyright is a SOCIAL BARGAIN. Its a two way street. Consumers do not have to be creators to have a stake in the game. The Consumer side of copyright is getting fed up with infinite copyright and e have every right to speak out about it. Take your righteousness and shove it.
If copyright were sane, i would not infringe. If I could buy a DVD and be sure it would play on any device i want, i wouldnt infringe. If copyright holders didnt do silly shit like force licenses to remove the analog hole,(my TV has no analog sound out, only SPDIF, that can be turned off. Netflix would turn off the optical port completely if the show had 5.1 sound). i wouldnt infringe. The plain fact is copyright holders hold back technology. Until such a time as copyright returns to 14+14, im going to infringe, if nothing more than to remove some of their influence.
The government doesn't get to just scream 'monopoly'. Google doesnt have a monopoly, at least not anywhere the historic ones of Standard Oil, ATT, and Microsoft.
Anyone who is paying attention can get a phone without subsidizing it with the carrier. I bought my Moto G outright ($200) and then took it to T-mobile to hook up.
People will no matter how many times we tell them not to. WE have been telling people since the early 90s about physical computer security and only those that get bitten actually do anything to prevent it.

Slashdot is way way smaller....and serves a much smaller slice of internet users.

Except that power companies are government regulated monopolies.....
But i really like being able to see my daily power usage....

Is that the kind of world you want?

IM looking at my powered down Time Machine NAS target right now. Pretty sure that data is safe from this attack.

Its not a security failure if they flood your network from the outside....You cant stop these attacks, only mitigate them.

Chernobyl virus victim checking in. $450 in hardware to fix that one.....
I dont even have voice mail on my phone anymore. Anyone important enough will have multiple other ways of sending me a message.
o god, is that how hotels do networking? via powerline?
Unlicensed doesnt mean without rules. Part of using that unlicensed spectrum is not interfering and accepting all interference.
