The problem is fun is not part of SAFE driving. If you want to have fun in your vehicle, go to the track, the rest of us want to be safe from people having fun. Public roads are not built for your enjoyment, and the longer we let people like you drive, the more people will die.
We know it is possible and plausible. The biggest barrier to this is POLITICAL. WE could start converting HOV lanes to automated-only tomorrow. We could start establishing autonomous only roads in the next few years. Autonomous driving is a reality NOW, if we adjust the driving grid to support it properly. You start with dedicated roads and work your way from there. Waiting to solve all the outlier variables is dumb.
Banking is based on TRUST, not POS security. The trust is that if something fraudulent happens, it can be fixed. Worrying about POS security like this is pointless.
Ipad and Surface Pro are not direct competitors. Ironically, its the artists and designers clamoring for Surface Pro and not Apple gear this time around.

The difference being that I have a vast trove of useful software to wring every last drop of performance out of my desktop hardware. What can i do to top out an ipad? The software stack is mostly useless for power and will remain that way for a very long time.

Philip's screwdriver patent doesnt really mean shit to me in the 21st Century does it? The Philips design is laying on the floor, waiting for anyone to use it, with no encumbrances. We want more of that in computing hardware/software. Tired of people telling us we have to have $10,000 in patented tools to get anything done.
Are we going to keep saying this forever? When are these things going to fall to the floor and become wrenches? (A wrench is a universally used device with no encumbrances, a true tool.)
We want tools of computing to be as useful and flexible and free (in design) as cement, steel girders, wrenches and sockets, pencils and paper.
I will correct what you said by saying 'It only works properly if you dont EXTEND the desktop to another monitor'. It will snap mirrored monitors just fine.

Some centralization is good, full-on EVERYTHING being centralized is VERY bad. The full steam ahead mentality is exactly what im talking about. Mainframing is DUMB, we learned those lessons decades ago. Thats what Personal Computing was all about, breaking mainframing and bringing the power back to the users.. Now, we arent advancing nearly as much as we are dumbing everything down to widen the audience. This is good in some ways, but relying ONLY on centralization for this is silly.
Google should allow other vendors because they pretend to be FOSS champions, and that means allowing choice.

I am so sick of this trickle approach to computing. If they are developing an OS, ALL apps should work, not carefully selected ones.. So tired of everything being hand-tuned for strategic partners while the ground remains scorched.
We laughed at Andreeson then, we laugh at you now. Mainframing personal computing is dumb, and Google (and you) should know better. Andreesen's promise is the road to idiocracy. 'I dont want to learn computers, someone else manage the OS for me...' The people arent rising up to meet the challenge, the tech is lowering to pick them up, and Chrome OS is bad idea that gets shoved on us. I would be fine with Chrome OS if they respected offline use as much as online. I would like chrome OS if i could plug in other data vendors besides Google.... Chrome OS is a dead end.
This is my biggest problem with the cloud as being implemented. I cant pop up my own cloud and point to that, i can only go to whatever strategic partner the device has a deal with. No Sony, i dont want to send my pictures to facebook or flickr from my camera, encrypt them and send them to my home network directly.....

I still have yet to hit the roof of the 16 GB I installed when i bought it, and thats with running several VMs and a 3 GB RAMDisk....for minecraft :)

Diablo 3 Hardcore is a fundamentally broken mode, I wouldnt use that as an example. The only way hardcore could possibly work is in offline mode only.
