Before you buy an Apple laptop (specifically the iBook series), do a search for "ibook logicboard". You'll find that there are some serious design flaws with this series. I bought an iBook in July 2002. I loved it. It ran both OS X and Gentoo very well. This past December I suffered my first logicboard failure. I am now the proud owner of a $1600 paperweight. This seems to be the norm rather than the exception (it's apparently present in the G4 line as well).

Besides, doesn't charging for taped concerts kind of go against the concert-tapes-as-promotion philosophy? The reason the Dead were the most successful concert band of all time was partially due to the free availability of tons of concert tapes. I know livephish has to pay for bandwidth, but this is a much larger divergence from the Dead/Phish philosophy of free concert music than people seem to believe.
A couple points:
- Phish does not allow soundboard patches at their shows (due to the illegal foreign "import" scene). These soundboard recordings will naturally sound better than your typical audience recording. I'll pay for the quality. Some of my audience recordings sound great. Others sound like they were recorded in a tin can.
- You can still freely trade any audience tape/mp3/shn. In fact, Phish just modified their taping/trading policy to allow ANY audience recording to be traded online (Taping Policy). The previous policy prohibited the online trading of audience recordings if a commercial release of the same show was available.
- How is this any different from the live Grateful Dead releases (i.e. Dick's Picks)? You won't find any of the Dick's Picks releases on etree. Seems to me like they are embracing a new medium.
I would highly recommend waiting until sometime after July 17th (the Mac Expo) to make your purchase.
You should expect to see an increase in processor speed with the iBooks (rumor has it that the top of the line iBook will be running @ 1 ghz). Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see the iBook upgraded to a G4 processor until sometime next year.
Microsoft sold Visual Test to Rational a few years ago. I'm only vaguely familiar with the product, so I'm not sure what effect it had on its popularity.
If you ever by a tower you can name it Franklin's:) If you have a PC with a wierd keyboard - call it Crazy Fingers. More funny NT Names: Box-Of-Pain Brokedown-Palace
You're paying for a higher quality recording. Most Phish tapes (of the present era) are made through audience microphones. Some sound great! Others sound a bit "tinny" The mp3 is most likely a soundboard recording...this results in a much crisper tape/mp3/etc.
Like the Grateful Dead, Phish has allowed taping at their concerts for a very long time. Thus, you can go out and trade for a nice copy of 10/31/90 if you like. Or, you can by a copy (a professionally mixed soundboard copy) of the same show.
Many folks have been sceptical on this "Kasparov vs. The World" claim for the past few months. Ask yourself one simple question, why haven't the votes for "The World" been released?

Simply adding a Objective C wrapper around your SDL code would allow you to create cross-platform application that runs natively on Mac OS.
Any service that uses pathfinding algorithms (such as MapQuest) should pay their respest.

Thanks Linus
SDL has been ported to the PS2.
This will make amateur game development for the PS2 *much* easier.

Check out www.parallaxinc.com. They make a chip called the Stamp II chip. It can be programmed with a Basic-like language.

Even more the reason for them to legalize weed. Sure it's bad, it gives to the munchies, etc.. it DOESN'T kill you like inhalants will!!

Wow! What a great idea! What I wouldn't give to login to an Althea or a Bertha. I'd name that scrappy computer WharfRat!

You're not kidding about that smell! (gasp!)
