THANK YOU! Seriously I get so sick of people bitching and complaining about the "techs" at places like Geek Squad. You get what you pay for, when I worked there none of us were making over $10 an hour, and I being the new part time guy made I $7.50. Now this is no license to steal people's things, but it certainly explains why sub-par service is provided all around. If you are paying less than $15 an hour you are either getting somebody who is unqualified, or in the case of the guys I worked with simply didn't care.
You must be more intelligent than this post would suggest. A specific threat like this should always be investigated. I'm sure you would feel differently if you had friends or family aboard that flight.
I cannot believe they included "morals" on that list. Were they too fucking stupid too realize what a giant exception that is? What's even the point of something with a loophole bigger than the western hemisphere?
I urge you to contact your legislators, get involved in your religious community and spread the message of tolerance. I think it would mean a lot more coming from a person like you whom they see eye to eye with on many things, than from the people on the "outside".
You seem to view this much the way the news people do. There are two sides to every issue and they must always draw from both sides, no matter how much rational evidence there is to ignore one side. Sure there is a chance of "God" but many a rational person will conclude that the likelihood of it seems quite low. There are not always two equal sides to every point, quit pretending there are.
I totally agree. I certainly was not trying to give the US a pass. I'm just so irritated when people try to blame one group of people for every problem so as to shield themselves from criticism. As I'm sure you know, that is pretty common here on Slashdot.
Do you ever get tired of blaming the US for every one of the world's ills? Americans can be dumb, but no more or less than Europeans in many ways. Look at British privacy laws, or the anti-muslim shit France is always trying to pull. Face it you guys are no angels either.
How this god modded insightful is beyond me. CD-Rs, especially cheap ones are known to degrade. Heck 10% in 10 years is actually pretty darn good even with decent media. Arguing this isn't true is like saying magnetic media doesn't lose a charge. I'm shocked that all 400 discs worked when even some pre-fabed discs would have failed in that time. If this is for real you must be the luckiest person on the planet. Obviously discs were more likely better made back then too.
I would say if you are getting 10% failure rate when you verify you are either using really cheap media, have too little ram, or are using an external drive on a congested USB chain. Or maybe its your burner. I use a pretty standard drive, and medium quality (Memorex) media and I would say about 1%-2% of my burns fail to verify and an additional 1% or so fail to burn in the first place.
Depends on if you have multiple PCs to backup. In my case I have my basement PC, my work Mac, and an old iBook I use if I'm on the road. I'm also under the impression that more drives get fried when the PSU goes out than over USB.
Reading your post I thought of an interesting situation. Since the site is obviously not overtly racist, is it against the rules for an officer to read any site that might contain racist material in the comments? If so Slashdot would be banned from tons of work places. Being a member of a site that has a few racist assholes, does not make you one of them. On the other hand, participation during work in these discussions ought to be punished. If it can be proven of course.
Did you even read what I said? Evidence- as in is there anything to show/prove that they did this from work? I mean the plaintiff putting it in their complaint is hardly evidence, and I somehow doubt they have access to the police internet logs. Thus I think you like many people here have jumped to a conclusion based on the trust of lawyers who are too stupid to even know the difference between government owned and private ownership.
I don't think it is clear at all that they were posting whileon the job. Where did you come to that conclusion except based on the random guess of the plaintiff? I have yet to see a shred of proof. Its dirty and mean, but not illegal.
While it is certainly in bad taste to have officers voicing these opinions on a forum, what is even more absurd is the lack of integrity of these lawyers to file such an insane lawsuit. Was anything illegal even committed? Also worth noting that these same lawyers are tacking the "pool kids" case. I can't help but think that perhaps that story is a similar pile of "I'm a victim" bullshit. Its sad when people abuse race, because it leads to distrust of those who are actually being discriminated against and need help.

The problem with 50-100 DVDs is that there is a very high chance one or two of them will fail.
