Except this time the minority party refused to, you know, leave. Though the government is not in session, the Republicans insist on hanging around anyway.

Holy shit our elected officials stayed past the manditory minimum. That right there is news. I always figured them to be like highschoolers and fly out the door the moment the bell rung!

I love arguments such as yours that trade something we can effect (our dependence on oil) for something we cannot (our planet). Perhaps we should have pushed from alternative energy, stronger standards (read: less waste (oil)), and a groupthink shift toward efficiency long ago. Nope fuck it lets just screw the Earth.

The argument you present is just as silly. If we had listened to those environmentalists and became a less oil dependant nation these problems would be far fewer. Think CAFE, air quality, ect. Destroying our planet should not be an option.

While I think we can all agree that Linux (especiall certain distros) have come a long way in the last few years, I think it is stretching it a bit to compare to the Mac or even Windows. Configuring Linux with its various window managers and dependencies is one of the reasons it has yet to make a dent in the desktop. A properly configured machine can be just fine for grandma but don't expect her to set it up herself- thats why she keeps buying the same 'ol Windows PC or Mac.

  11. Count out the Xbox on Microsoft Brand In Sharp Decline · · Score: 1

I don't think lack of innovation is a new thing at MS. Not to mention that despite your feeling on the Xbox it is soon to be in 3rd and final place worldwide as the PS3 continues to gain ground (somewhat sadly). Still software is running great, but I wonder how long that gravy train can last with massive losses to marketshare. Lets not forget how much the Box has lost MS in profits despite it's one "magical" quarter which is suspicious all by itself.

  12. Campaign Finance Reform is the Key on Patent Reform Bill Unable To Clean Up Patent Mess · · Score: 2, Insightful

The thing that makes Uwe Boll movies even worse than they already are is his dickish attitude. Lets not forget that he got into a boxing match with some of his most disliked movie critics, but only after denying them the training he had promised, as well as screening out the few with real experience. So he is a totally talentless asshole whose sole job it is to ruin franchises that we all hold dear. Germany really has to stop subsidizing him- it really makes a mockery of the the tax break meant to fund "art".

Thats great to hear. But for those that are not picky about their lossless format, the one from Apple (compatible with your old iPod) is very similar. Saying that MP3s sport less than 10% of the music of a CD is just plain stupid. Perhaps 10% of the data, but frankly that would only be a low bit rates. That is a little like saying that radio is destroying music because it is not CD-quality. Everybody has a different tolerance. For me 128 just won't do it but up that to 256 and I can't tell the difference. These people are just dinosaurs afraid of the future. I'd take a high bit rate 6-channel AAC file over a CD any day of the week,
