And the public supported the war in Iraq too. the people listen to the FUD from both sides and pick the best one. Right now the whole stick it in the ground and tomorrow gas will be $1.29 argument seems to be winning. Gotta hand it to the Repubs they are crafty liars.
Except this time the minority party refused to, you know, leave. Though the government is not in session, the Republicans insist on hanging around anyway.
Holy shit our elected officials stayed past the manditory minimum. That right there is news. I always figured them to be like highschoolers and fly out the door the moment the bell rung!
I love arguments such as yours that trade something we can effect (our dependence on oil) for something we cannot (our planet). Perhaps we should have pushed from alternative energy, stronger standards (read: less waste (oil)), and a groupthink shift toward efficiency long ago. Nope fuck it lets just screw the Earth.
I think the point was that they system is "supposed" to work that way. Clearly there is some deviance, but what can we do other than vote the punks out? Exactly.
The argument you present is just as silly. If we had listened to those environmentalists and became a less oil dependant nation these problems would be far fewer. Think CAFE, air quality, ect. Destroying our planet should not be an option.
1. Post on/. Bitching about not having devs.
2. Don't provide a link to get involved or any specifics.
3. Create a successfull free software project?
Good luck!
While I think we can all agree that Linux (especiall certain distros) have come a long way in the last few years, I think it is stretching it a bit to compare to the Mac or even Windows. Configuring Linux with its various window managers and dependencies is one of the reasons it has yet to make a dent in the desktop. A properly configured machine can be just fine for grandma but don't expect her to set it up herself- thats why she keeps buying the same 'ol Windows PC or Mac.
I don't think lack of innovation is a new thing at MS. Not to mention that despite your feeling on the Xbox it is soon to be in 3rd and final place worldwide as the PS3 continues to gain ground (somewhat sadly). Still software is running great, but I wonder how long that gravy train can last with massive losses to marketshare. Lets not forget how much the Box has lost MS in profits despite it's one "magical" quarter which is suspicious all by itself.
Watered down legislation such as this is clearly the result of the massive influx of dollars into the pockets of our politicians via the industries who thrive on ridiculous structures like the US Patent Office. Until we force our representatives to get off that teet we are foolish to expect anything less.
The title says it all. People stick with old tech because it works well and suits their purposes. Mainframes have a great use to folks that need a reliable system with good support. Don't fix it if it ain't broken.
Its funny that anytime a corp. does something cool like this its always motivated by some outside mandate. I suspect little work will be done to make these more accessable to the average joe now that they have what they want
The thing that makes Uwe Boll movies even worse than they already are is his dickish attitude. Lets not forget that he got into a boxing match with some of his most disliked movie critics, but only after denying them the training he had promised, as well as screening out the few with real experience. So he is a totally talentless asshole whose sole job it is to ruin franchises that we all hold dear. Germany really has to stop subsidizing him- it really makes a mockery of the the tax break meant to fund "art".
Thats great to hear. But for those that are not picky about their lossless format, the one from Apple (compatible with your old iPod) is very similar. Sure its not open, but I'm not sure I would dump something as expensive as an iPod just to switch between lossless formats. Wish I could afford such convictions, but I'd just wait till my current DAP died.
Sucks that we can't all be rich record execs who can afford the multi-thousand dollar equipment needed to get that other 90% of the music that we are *missing*. Most people are held back by their stereo set-up and not their 256 AAC files.
Saying that MP3s sport less than 10% of the music of a CD is just plain stupid. Perhaps 10% of the data, but frankly that would only be a low bit rates. That is a little like saying that radio is destroying music because it is not CD-quality. Everybody has a different tolerance. For me 128 just won't do it but up that to 256 and I can't tell the difference. These people are just dinosaurs afraid of the future. I'd take a high bit rate 6-channel AAC file over a CD any day of the week,
You should get modded flamebait because while you piss and moan about the wikipedia article your provide no clarification of what you think facism really is. Saying "Wikipedia is a hot bed of commies" is hardly a productive and usefull point. Get it?
Your optimism, E++99, is awe inspiring! Replace optimism with blind faith and you can understand his thinking. A hundred years from now Bush will be looked up to? Pretty conveninent that we will all be dead long before then.
To this day his Stalin's birthday and death are celebrated by many Russians, our failure to help foster their capitalist democracy (while we were busy trying to do it with Iraq) has led to a resurgence of interest in the "old principles".
Frankly some points are just so far out that they deserve to be discredited through any means possible even moderation. The point you originally made seems to have caused the community to react in that way. You have about as much ground to stand on as a holocaust denier or a person who still thinks there are WMDs. Should they add a "-1 Stupid Fucking Argument" sure, but until then I'm happy to see you're hate for our principles hidden as deeply as possible. I really hope that something could change a mind like yours, but If it hasn't been changed already you are either a shill or living in a Bush reality distortion field.

Seriously, how many people don't realize that checking AIM or listening to web radio is prohibited? Few I would imagine.
MS projected they would finally make a profit by the last quarter of the year- that was however only before the massive cost of the extended warrenty.
I know its just part of the corporate game, yet it still gives me the fuzzies when a company does the right thing make something right
