If you think someone pointing out a mirror hates you, because the thing you see in the mirror is so. fucking. hideous., you're shooting yourself in the foot and that's all you're doing.
Indeed, let's make this a generic news site with an intelligent audience engaged in actual debate. Looking around other "news sites", none of them offer even a shadow of that, so yeah... good suggestion:P
What is this original purpose of Slashdot you are speaking of? Gagdets? Escapism? Hmmm... I always read "news for nerds, stuff that matters" not as "nerd stuff does matter", but as "here's some nerd news, plus some things that *actually* matter". Maybe that's just me though, and of course what "matters" is highly subjective..
If you can't get the difference of rate of fire between hunting rifles and automatic ones, yet are familiar with weapons, you're just acting stupid. Well, I sure hope you're just acting, seeing how you handle weapons.
Oh, and it's not not like saying "Dems/MSNBC" is even the tiniest bit above that, you know (well I know you don't but let's pretend)... so one could say you got responded to in kind, with good points on top of that, and you didn't like that apparently. Figures.
Your loss, he's making perfectly valid points. If you want to use the "teenage insults" cop out here when it's about attempted murder, then that is a burden your soul alone will have to carry. Have a nice day.
You only have to read the first 3 lines to realize that the rest is a verbatim copy of patent claim #1, and you don't *really* have to read all that... so that "wall of text" several posters complained about really isn't one.
I've recently in a book seen an excerpt of an essay Mao wrote as a student.. the book is in German, but I'll try to translate:
"I am everything. Everything exists for me. I only have a obligation towards myself, not towards others. I am only responsible for my own reality, not for past or future. I am only responsible for that which I know. I have my needs and follow them. That is the way great heroes live."
If God punishes for evil and rewards for faith and love (= obedience), there is simply no way nobody can *really* hurt me, except myself by being wicked. If salvation is a gift, and loving the truth (which kinda implies acting in accordance with it) is ultimately the only thing I need to "do", well, I don't really see a way to blame God for anything. And believe me, I tried, real hard... but God isn't responsible for our state, we are. We're drunk on deceit and what we tell ourselves. But the writing is on the wall, so to speak... it's NOT in some basement in a filing cabinet of a room with a sign saying "warning, leopard". It just isn't.
Nobody blames the government for Google having collected the data.
No, but since this story came up, there's plenty of knee-jerk google praise and government bashing, just because it's Google and the government respectively. THAT I am addressing, that is what pisses me off. I just picked a random comment to, uhhh, have a knee-jerk reaction ^^
Johann, please stop being stupid. I agree with you that whatever evil the government is, is nothing compared to what corporations do. They need to be called on it. I would like to think that smart people share my opinion, not stupid people.
Hmm, but you'd have to be pretty stupid to feel moved by this personal appeal from anonymous ^^
I'm just tired of the endless tirade since this story surfaced on Slashdot. Maybe because Google can't get laid or design websites that look nice, either? While the government are a bunch of old farts who just don't get it.
I'm not saying they do, but this whole thing is a farce and theatre, nothing more. If you expect me to be that daft to value the passwords of morons WHO TRANSMITTED THEM UNENCRYPTED more than the cancer that is the culture of seeing "the government" as an external entity, you'll have to look for other people to share your oh so precious opinions with. To me this is simply peanuts... put them up as torrents for all I care. Seriously, that's not just not "non-stupid", this is idiotic.... and it kinds shows the lengths to which people go. If you're not astroturfing, I pity you. And if you want to give more "weight" to your fluff by including a personal appeal, make sure you're a person, too, and not an anonymous fucking coward. Just as a hint.
boo-hoo, the evil government! yay google, champion of freedom!!
*pukes*
The government is the one institution that people can change. It's the one institution you can affect by participation without institutional change. That's exactly why all the anger and fear is directed at the government. The government has a defect: it's potentially democratic. Corporations have no defect, they're pure tyrannies. So therefore you wanna keep corporations invisible, and focus all anger at the government. So you don't like something, you know, your wages are going down: blame the government. Not blame the guys in the Fortune 500 because you don't read the Fortune 500, you just read what they tell you in the newspapers. So you don't read about the dazzling profits and the stupendous dizz, and the wages going down and so on, all you know is that the bad's government is doing something, so let's get mad at the government.
and and sure, so you were joking about the brackets.. way to "discuss" tech stuff, gah. I stand by it, blehhhh to most of the languages you mentioned. yay c++.
you say people should not be "pussy" and embed "anything with strong typing."
so I mention the reason why I CAN'T like a language I'd actually like to like (python), and c++.
then you say python "supports brackets" with its hilariously basic comment syntax... and how c++ has "buffer overflows" as intrinsic disadvantage. you know, both of those are bullshit, and now you've run out of anything to say you get to call me troll? humourless no less, which is ironic to say the least.
well, you could also say c++ is like a sports car (hey, car analogies! haha), without all the shitty stuff weighing those down who know what they're doing. and that's coming from someone who can hardly code c++ without producing crashes all the freaking time - I still can see the beauty of the language in those instances I use it somewhat correctly. I can also see the eyecancerfest some other languages are. then I compare performance and hey, I'm sold.
you're talking about the future here after all, and not being pussy and doing some real leaps forward. so fuck sandbox VM - and bring on the sandbox compilers:P
uhm no, python supports comments. that's hardly the same. oh, and it requires a # on every comment line, that's another no-no for me... you know, what happens if you want to comment out something *within* a line? as in
if (testcondition1/* || testcondition2 */)
? for the life of me I don't get why people would not re-use such, uhm, advancements in computer technology. as cumbersome as c++ may be, it can also be very sweet. not to mention fast.
But C++ sounds great! Yay buffer overruns!
oh come on, it's not like if you pay attention you cannot avoid that? that's an argument against shitty c++ code, not the language itself. obviously it would have to be run in a sandbox, but so does everything else anyway.. so yeah, integrate GCC in the browser, compile the scripts as they come in, and BLAMMO, quake live actually IN your browser etc.
WebGL really might make the scripting language the bottleneck for many things (network stuff aside of course). and c++ is nice. so it'd be win/win ^^
I'm more "pussy" about parentheses myself. Python might be nice, but I'll never use it simply because it doesn't have any. Now C++ on the other hand, that would kick ass...
It is entirely possible that most people don't give a flying fuck and censorship has nothing to do with it.
Fair enough, and likely true in this case. However:
After you cry wolf several times, people stop giving a shit.
Is this really what's happening? I'm more under the impression all the jaded bootlickers were suspiciously silent in the last weeks -- now there is ONE allegiation which turns out to be not true, and BAM! they all come back out of the woods, making their shitty little speeches like yours.
The only people who care about Wikileaks are irrational people who want to rage against the machine and 'change the world'.
I see what you did there. What is so funny about changing the world that you have to put it in quotes? The only people being 100% cynical about this are bootlickers, and no amount of monkey dance can change that.
Assange wants to release it piece meal, ramp up the drama and attention to him and his site as much as possible [...] The files should ALL be placed online, in a distributed manner, and be done with.
If you think someone pointing out a mirror hates you, because the thing you see in the mirror is so. fucking. hideous., you're shooting yourself in the foot and that's all you're doing.

It "remains clear" you forfeit by dodging all actual points.
What are those "two extremes" you are referring to? I smell bullshit, that's why I ask.
Oh, and it's not not like saying "Dems/MSNBC" is even the tiniest bit above that, you know (well I know you don't but let's pretend)... so one could say you got responded to in kind, with good points on top of that, and you didn't like that apparently. Figures.

Here, have one more! =D
take notes lam0rs, patent pending haha!
Learn to read? Learn to not post pure noise?

You kinda left out the fate of the soul there...
If God punishes for evil and rewards for faith and love (= obedience), there is simply no way nobody can *really* hurt me, except myself by being wicked. I wonder why the (ever so slight) drop of "euphemism" near the present bothers me...
Yeah... my own site comes up as 100% intermediate.
It's slightly less heartwarming when you consider that the starfish-catapulting machine is built out of dead starfish and consumes them as fuel.
and and sure, so you were joking about the brackets.. way to "discuss" tech stuff, gah. I stand by it, blehhhh to most of the languages you mentioned. yay c++.
oh yeah, right.
