  1. Stereo-Link on Computer Audio - To USB or Not to USB? · · Score: 1

All I have to say is "Stereo-Link"... I've had so many problems with grounding loops and computer audio that the only way to go is digital. Whether it be optical or USB, it's the only way to cut out noise that will more often than not be apparent in a computer... Stereo-Link USB DAC This thing rocks, I own the 1200 and is the best audio investment I've made in a long time!

  3. Zaurus rocks! on MSNBC Reviews the Sharp Zaurus · · Score: 1

I just bought one of these fine units (Best Buy - $284, open box / $25 rebate) and am loving it. I almost ended up buying a Jornada 568 but am very glad I didn't!

This unit is polished from OS to physical fit and finish. The Zaurus feels great in the hand, very sturdy and the hidden keyboard just plain rocks. Two thumb typing is easier than one would think!

Two complaints that aren't even much to complain about. The synch software doesn't do justice to how the unit was built. However, it is VERY usable and works flawlessly. It doesn't however have that polished feel of the unit. Point 2 is handwriting recognition. The default recognition is rather picky just because the software controlling it has you draw out the whole letter. This, however, is customizable and I plan on copying the Grafitti style from Palm as this is much more useable!!!

G33k factor is definitely up there... :) From init.d, to ssh'ing into your PDA to running Debian on the unit!!! :) Anybody want dpkg on their PDA??? http://people.debian.org/~mdz/zaurus/

Some of my fellow coworkers, I think, wish they would have gotten the Zaurus over their Palm models. I am quite glad I'm not in their shoes on this occasion, and am very impressed / happy with the unit all in all... Any geek should love one of these!!!

    Exactly, something like a simple:

    ping -f -q riaa.org

(-q so you don't have to watch all those bounced pings until they get their LinkSys SOHO router patched to the newest flash image) ...would be sufficient. Especially on anybodys boxen who have a phat pipe like a DS3 or above! That way those people will know faster...

  5. Re:First try. on Salon Goes Inside the X-Box · · Score: 1

I'm not quite sure I agree. As a typical college student I did my research prior to buying my console. Basically it came down to the obvious PS2 or XBox. I chose XBox, why? Bang for my $$$, I didn't look at how many titles were out. You can have 2 million titles out for PS2, but not all the games are "worth buying". At first I was leery of my decision, everyone seemed to be still buying PS2. But all those guys that have PS2 and play XBox seem to think that XBox has the better, more responsive graphics, much faster load times and most even like the controller vs. PS2 (they say too small after you get used to XBox). M$ has the money to stick into the market, do you really think they're going to give up this easily in the game? VERY doubtful...

    Just my $0.02
