    At least to me, it's not super clear - after ten seconds of looking, how to '...enroll for free.'

    If not, sure, users are the product, as they are for magazines, tv, anything involving advertising revenue. Advertisers are the customer, your attention (you) is the product sold to the advertiser/NSA/etc.

    Maybe start weaning yourself (and others) off 'news' and TV more generally - if you can't stop them from spreading outright nonsense, you can at least stop listening to it.
