    The whole idea stinks of a special-interest-group-funded study to show that their interests should be respected.

    Seriously? Maybe I'm the one-in-a-million case that doesn't follow the flock but the single and only reason I work is FOR THE MONEY. No amount of spin from people with larger foreheads than I will convince me otherwise :D

    All the validation, satisfaction at mastering a subject, etc... etc.. can be generated in my own time in a manner that suits ME. Neither employees nor employers should kid themselves - this isn't going to fly.

    Please try harder.

    For instance "Excellent Opportunity" invariably means "shitty pay - the only way is up."

    I thought the Peace Prizes to Gore and Obama to be the most asinine thing that the committee has ever done.

    To implicitly compare those two politicians to the likes of King or Gandhi just disgusts me.

    Now you are just being pedantic. The donor donated the sperm with a specific goal in mind. You might as well say that all fathers are just donating a substance, and everything else is a side-effect of the mother's egg's actions.

    No! The act of conceiving was carried out by the lesbian couple. The donor merely provided technical assistance to help them overcome the shortcomings imposed by nature. If same-sex couples are to be afforded equal rights, they must share equal responsibility. The conscious choice to impregnate should be the legally-defined act of procreation, a generalization of the equivalent point provided by nature so-as to include same-sex couples; therefore the donor shares no responsibility.

    How much ambiguity was there in the situation and the contract such that a lawyer was necessary? If it's an unambiguously-worded agreement - are laywers necessary?

    even honest doctors might be more inclined (without even being aware of it) to interpret ambiguous results as "dead" rather than "alive".

    I suspect most doctors would be horrified at being suspected of this but I agree with your assessment; unconscious bias is tricky.

    There's a lot of this going around. From the top of my head:
      * Gambling in its various forms: National Lotteries, horses, cards, roulette, dogs, etc...
      * Cigarettes, alcohol, the various party drugs
      * The cosmetics industry - playing on fear of being unattractive/old to turn a profit
      * Firearms industry - playing on people's fear of safety and inability to perform drive-bys effectively
      * ...

    All heavily supported by advertising.
