That sounds like an extremely good way to have your laptop confiscated and destroyed in a controlled explosion, and for you to spend some years in prison. Prison time? Because your laptop wouldn't turn on? They might taze you for but I doubt a judge would convict someone for having their psu not connected to their mobo in their laptop while passing through airport security...

Umm... Sorry to be nitpicky, but salt is a metal. In chemistry, a metal (Greek: Metallon) is an element that readily loses electrons to form positive ions (cations) and has metallic bonds between metal atoms.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal Sodium is a metal and chlorine is a halogen, together they form the compound sodium chloride (also known as salt). If you nitpick, do it correctly.

  14. *sigh* on The Advantages of Upgrading From Vista To XP · · Score: 1

My parents bought a new vista system today, 1.6ghz dual core, 1GB of ram, integrated graphics,320GB HDD, 19' widescreen, keyboard, mouse and a hp printer all for $599.

Of course we bring it home and hook it up, first boot was unimaginably long, the second one was also fairly long, after within the first 5 minutes 'windows explorer' crashed which prevented pretty much everything (also this crash prevented it from shutting down, it sat at the shutting down screen for about 20 minutes)

I had warned my parents several times about the blunders of vista (they had been using ubuntu 7.10 before their computer's power supply died and took the mobo with it) but there wasn't much along the lines of availability in this area for computers (they didn't want to spend a lot of money and wanted a lot of stuff) so getting a PC without vista would have been difficult and it may be nice for a time when eventually vista works alright (we all remember that XP had similar problems upon release), unless it turns into the next ME (which I've been comparing it too already, makes people shiver).

From their standpoint upgrading to XP would be nice(they don't have a legal copy however) but I'd rather they upgrade to gutsy (although it's more work for me since they don't really know how to use it that well, once I set it up for them it causes a lot less problems down the road).

You will find at some point in time that you fall in love with a woman for more than her looks and ability and willingness to give you sex whenever you want. I know this sounds crazy but it's really true ( imo, though I'm only 18 so judge for yourself ), without perfect AI I don't think any non shallow male could claim to 'love' his robot. This might just be me... Personally I have no problems with real women, sure they're a bit moody at times and some are complete shallow bitches but then you meet some really great ones and one absolutely fantastic one who you'd be willing to spend your life with, and live(what robot could enjoy a sunset with you, or a view of the great pyramids or any other sight you can imagine).

As a generation Y'er myself, I must admit that (at least for the part of Canada I live in, a small town in northern Ontario, population 18,000) most people my age (18) aren't really interested in how a computer works or even in software development. I intend to pursue a CS career. Last year I was trying to take Grade 12 computer science but the class was canceled because only 3 people signed up (the amount of students who graduated that year was over 300). It's really pitiful to see so few people interested in computer science. Now I'm back at high school for another year so I can take the computer science course along with a few other science and graphic design classes. I don't have Computer science until next semester so I'm not really sure about the numbers, though something tells me it won't be any larger than 15. Gen Y'ers that I have experience with may be able to do simple tasks such as syncing their mp3 players or downloading music, but god forbid they have to find drivers for their video cards (whats a video card!?) I can't count how many people have came to me asking me to find something on the internet for them. They lack the skills of even the least knowledgeable IRC'er: how to use Google. [Offtopic] I do try to teach people to use their google skills more efficiently, I've even convinced my parents to run Ubuntu (fiesty atm) on their computer, of course, I've had to set everything up for them (I didn't expect them to do it, it was even my first experience with Linux) my Dad honestly prefers it over windows, now that it does everything he needs it to do, without all the hassle and bloatware of windows.
