I love this old tired ass argument. Your argument is flawed because you leading statement
They destroy families, lives, health, and general peace and good order can apply to SO many things. Obesity for one. Did you know that heart disease, mostly caused by obesity, is by far a bigger killer than from drugs? Wouldn't that mean being fat is bad for society? I guess I am going to have to go lock my fat ass up in jail since I am now destroying my family, my life and my health, etc...
Drugs are like a lot of other things. You just have to do it in moderation. Just because you smoke a joint/bowl/bong/whatever every now and again to chill after a hard day, doesn't make you a hardened criminal any more than having a few drinks with friends does. You do also realize that the more people that are in jail, the more taxpayers have to pay to keep them incarcerated right? You do also know that the vast majority of the prisoners are in there for drugs. So maybe if we loosened up on drugs a little, we could have less people in our jails, in turn saving the government and ourselves money.
I know that the first time I played a Zelda game I was enthralled for many, many months and then I beat it (both quests) and anxiously awaited the second game. I think I was so obsessed at some point I dreamed about the damn thing and it came out I remember thinking "This game really fucking sucks". I didn't bother beating and turned to alternate means of entertainment.
I got a PC then and quit Zelda playing until the 64 came out and I know that when I heard something new was coming out I about shit my pants. That was the first time I really got excited again about Zelda games and I was so not disappointed when I played OoT. That game was so great. It went downhill though for me at least. MM was alright. Once I played WW for a while I grew to like it, but something was missing until I got into the level where you go into what used to be Hyrule. I then realized why I never cared for the other Zelda games. Without THE Link, Princess Zelda and Hyrule's familiar landmarks it just wasn't Zelda for me.
Twilight Princess had the same effect on me that OoT did. Although I think the game kicks ass, I'm getting tired of the same ol same ol. I know that is a bit contradictory to my previous statement, but one can only explore Hyrule so much and I think this one gives you enough of it to explore that you don't feel like it's a rehash. The thing is where is it going to go from here? Hyrule has been dissected as much as it can be I think. I don't know if getting new characters would help thought since I am pretty tied to Link, but I didn't like the ones where he wasn't saving Zelda. Maybe Zelda and Link could go adventuring somewhere else together and you can play both of them and Zelda isn't just a princess, but a fighter. I don't know but I think it might just be time. That's my two cents.
I think I have to disagree with you. I know I'll get labeled a conspiracy theorist for this but maybe they didn't want to cover up the whole Monica incident. Also there was some pretty damn convincing evidence that ol' Bill and Monica were fooling around. There isn't as much evidence to convince me one way or another about the JFK assassination. I don't know if I think there was another shooter or not, but I think the government may have "coerced" Oswald into shooting JFK.
Anyways I'm not going to get into that. Was just putting my stupid two cents in.
Flame away if you like.
I agree that in some part, piracy is theft. Some stuff I will buy even though I have to sell a kidney to get it like Adobe CS3 or the new Dreamweaver. I can handle buying those. I just can't justify paying more money to M$ for an OS that really hasn't proven itself yet. Maybe in two or three years I will be willing to pay for it, but for now I'll take my illegal $1 Chinese copy thank you very much!
I always get the ones disguised as a check. The really hilarious part is that these so called "checks" are for like 10 bucks or less. The only thing they are really useful for is a laugh.
That being said, the issue of data security is still an extreme concern: even when our users use a web/browser based app, it still better be running off of one of OUR servers in on OUR site.
I think you have hit the nail on the head there. If companies could create mostly web based apps and run them off their site, the possibilities are endless. At my past employer, 90% of our apps were web based and it was so simple to not only use, but troubleshoot. I think that is the biggest plus for me at least. Instead of having to go show the trained monkeys how to do the simplest thing, I could just walk them through it over the phone. They couldn't pull the line of "I don't have THAT button on my screen" since we would be looking at identical things. The online collaboration is really a big plus for me as well. As long as it can be secured I am ALL for it!
Just as a side note to this, I am a trust fund kid ( probably more than you have ever dreamed of) and my parents still taught me the value of hard work. I decided to work my way through college because I figured that I would value it more if I did. Pricks like you are the reason people like me get a bad name.
You know it's bad when someone as cheap as me will willingly spend hundreds of dollars extra for designer hardware because it's the only hardware that will run the only alternative to Windows capable of running certain major applications.
I so agree with you on that. I don't see why both can't be sold. On the machines XP is sold on offer an upgrade to Vista if someone wants to try it out when more software becomes compatible. I remember Dell and others doing that previous to Vista's release but it would be nice if they would still offer it. I know that I spent hours and way more money than I should of getting a compy this week because Dreamweaver MX isn't Vista compatible that I know of. I'm too cheap to buy version 8.
I hate to post offtopic here but to work at Geek Squad, at least at my home Best Buy, they required a four year degree and minimum three years experience in PC troubleshooting. Geek Squad still ain't worth a shit though. Just thought I would point that out.
Could I have you define "mature" for me. I guess "mature" would mean going around stealing cars, banging hookers and beating up cops. Mature is really a subjective kind of thing. I think you may be relating mature to FPS games and I would rather play kiddie games than those and apparently a lot of people feel way so say the numbers.
I think the both of you have really valid points. I think I agree that people, in general, do need at least a little training on basic PC usage. I'm not saying that some people can't figure it out on their own, because some can, but the MAJORITY of people can not. Does Joe Bob User need to know how the intricacies of how to use DHCP, DNS or SMTP, probably not. Would a general understanding of these things help to make their computer more secure, you betcha.
I 100 percent AGREE with the line about people wanting the world to work for them. People, once again the majority, are lazy and stupid. It's just a fact of life. A person though can be intelligent and hard working but when no one else is doing anything why bother. I have an example for you those few non believers out there. We had given all of our office employees Open Office as their office suite instead of M$ because of the associated licensing fees with M$. They all threw baby fits for one reason or another. Well I one person had some issues with changing the color of a font in OO.(For the record they actually had to this on a letter that company sent out) I had shown them how to do it oh I don't know about 10 times previous to yesterday. Yesterday I was fairly busy and I said I could walk her through it on the phone otherwise it would take me a while to get up there and help her. She then starting whining because I couldn't come help her do it. I mean how lazy is that. Don't get me wrong I am more than willing to help someone learn how to use a new product or show them how some difficult feature works, but why it is the IT dept's job to babysit users? I think people have become reliant on IT for stuff they maybe shouldn't have. This ends up leading to situations where people won't do what someone else can do for them.
I think Microsoft has kind of exploited that with Vista security. I can't actually believe I'm saying this but M$ did come up with fundamentally good ideas but as previously stated, they implemented it so that users are now to blame for their own immense stupidity. Is this Microsoft's fault? Well yes and no. I mean they try to help with the pop up boxes, but you get so freaking sick of them you eventually just click something to make it go away. I think a more effective pop up system would only come up if you were going to do something really stupid. I think people though as a whole need to become a little more responsible for their selves.
I love when people post anonymously. My business doesn't particularly dislike Microsoft, but we aren't gonna redesign all of our software when MS decides that our OS, which is working perfectly fine, needs upgraded. Our machines that need XP have XP. Everything else is ran with 98. I like to live by the "If it isn't broke don't fix it" philosophy. No one that uses 98 needs any of the functionalities introduced with any newer OS. Why should we have to rewrite code? So we can spend money futilely? We have better things to buy. For businesses such as our that have lots of custom designed software, their is no point in all honesty. Microsoft is good about backward compatibility up until support is ended for an OS. There are so many other reasons people don't want to upgrade so why does Microsoft push it so. At home I run XP Pro only because web publishing and graphics programs get whiny about 98. I liked 98 despite it's BSOD issues. Why should people who are comfortable change? That is all I am saying.
I 100% agree with you on this! Microsoft,IMHO, has always been arrogant about people having to rewrite software every time they release a new OS. Shouldn't they just make their OS more backward compatible? That's my two cents at least
I think that was the title that really made the whole series for me. It's not like I don't like the rest of them, but after SOTN I was just like "eeewwwww these are so blah compared to SOTN". I mean going back to using a whip just seemed so simple. I think if Konami chooses to try and resurrect the series it should be a sequel to SOTN. Alucard is way badder than any Belmont by far. Plus the soundtrack was killer. The paired the music so perfectly with the levels. That's just my nerdy two cents for what it's worth.
I think any responsible IT department will not be rolling out good ol Vista anytime soon. There are just too many incompatibilities and bugs. Microsoft seems to believe, in their infinite wisdom, that everyone is running a Windows based network with only Microsoft software. The problem in the real world is that this just isn't so. SO many companies have backbones that are UNIX/Linux. So many web servers are Apache. Too further grind the point into the ground, so many companies use custom built software. The company I work with is an example of this. We are on a Novell NOS, we use Apache as a web server and Linux for VPN and monitoring. 90% of our apps are custom designed and some of them, that still work like clockwork mind you, were written in assembler. Is Vista gonna support those? Gee I bet not. Also our end users, not all mind you just a select "special" few, tend to be dumber than a box of rocks when it comes computers. They don't need to have something new to confuse their tiny little brains any further. We still run 98 because it works just fine with some users needs. We do run XP though since it meets other users needs. To be honest, if our company had the time and resources we would probably create our own OS since our needs our much different than most.
So what advantage does it give to us to have Vista??? We don't need pretty things since they distract the stupid people from doing their job. Us IT folk don't need it and the execs don't need it. Like so many people have said, maybe in 3-7 yrs or as hardware requires, maybe a Vista upgrade is plausible but not now. I do have to comment about the idiot that said it's vendors faults that their apps don't work with Vista. It could be that this happened because unlike Microsoft, some companies are working on new and interesting things instead of rehashing old shit. Comment made. Let the flogging begin.

Or they complain 50 or 60 times since they can't get their joke emails. Either way very annoying!!
