Unfortunately, it is also out of print. It is a pretty fun book and more or less the best Nintendo book. Maybe one of these days it will be back in print.
Maybe I'm a bit dense but I looked at the internictr link and read your post but I still can't tell what exactly is it that you are asking people to transcribe and why?
I don't know about hurricanes since I live in a land-locked state in the midwest but I do know that during winter they can say that it is illegal to be on the roads when the conditions are bad enough. However, in practice that doesn't mean that they stop every vehicle on the road and arrest people. It does mean that if you are out on the road and get stuck then you might get a fine for it. I would imagine that it is a similar situation for hurricane weather.
Exactly. That was my first thought too. Now the creationist design people will use this as more "proof" that science is wrong without really understanding what it means.
I have said this elsewhere but I might as well post it here too.
At lest this guy didn't make a movie dramatizing events from 9/11 and charge people $8+ to see it.
Not to nitpick but several games have rather lengthy scripts with many more lines than in a typical movie. Planescape: Torment, for example, is said to have a script of more than 800,000 words
Of course if they were smart enough to pull all this off without anyone knowing about it then maybe they are also smart enough to do all these other dumb and incompetent things to make us think they aren't smart enough to do it...
If someone is determined to steal something they are going to do it no matter what you do. Therefore, it seems that if you really want to minimize it the best thing to do would be to educate the attendees. So why not do something like appoint someone as saftey cop or whatever and have that person go around and whenever someone is away from their computer have them put a sticker on the monitor saying something like, "Your shit just got stolen!" so that when they come back they will know that their stuff could have easily been taken.
If you wanted to get really into it you could do something like every time someone's stuff got caught unattended their MAC was banned for an hour or something.
Doing things like this would ensure that everyone kept an eye on their stuff and make it harder for a thief.
This is true. Even as a grad student I get sent texts books fairly often. But how does that count as bribe? 99% of the books that have shown up in my mailbox have been crap I don't want. It is nice when I sell them on Amazon though as it makes for a nice supplement to grad student pay.
True, but it isn't the profs fault. You think I want to take the time to look through a new book to see what has changed and what hasn't, what problems I like and want to assign and which ones I don't like and won't assign? I would much rather keep using the old book but if the bookstore says they can't get it then I can't force my students to get it.
contributing to or writing a textbook doesn't count for much if anything on tenure. At my university if it counts for anything it counts as community service.
As others have mentioned they originally found the stuff because of a fire at the home. I did a search for the guy's name and found another article that confirms this. This article has the more sensational title, "Marlborough fire leads to discovery of basement full of chemicals (must resist urge to call title inflammatory...)
I generally am suspicious of the authorities in such situations but at least here it seems as if there might have been some reason. It sounds almost as if this is similar to some guy having stacks and stacks of newspapers in his house. As in most cases there is more to the story than a short newspaper article tells us.
I was replying to the person that said that the people who stood in line all day to get an iphone could get one because they didn't have jobs not commenting on how expensive I thought the phone was.
Personally the free phone I got with my contract is good enough for me.
I taught high school and belonged to the union. The union must save their magical powers for schools other than the one I taught at. The only thing the union ever did for me was take money out of my paycheck.
The problem with intelligent design is that there is no theory there. Evidence against evolution is not evidence for an outside force.
Even if evolution is totally wrong that is in no way evidence that intelligent design has any validity whatsoever. Just because 2+2 doesn't equal 5 doesn't mean it must equal 6.
Even if there weren't agreements between states the fact that not only is it recommended that Jacko be disbarred or even disbarred for a lengthier term of 10 years but for life makes it very unlikely that anyone would let him practice law again.
Of course being kicked off the case in Alabama and unable to practice law there doesn't prevent him from claiming to be part of the case.
I've never understood this line of reasoning. It isn't as if there can be only one anti-videogame violence advocate. There's nothing stopping someone rational from appearing on television and promoting legislation.

This is just a plot summary. While reviews typically discuss the plot they do more than that. They, well, review the book. This doesn't do that.
Although, while the book may stink, the cover is pure awesomeness!

Do people actually use that web content crap? As someone who has taught numerous college courses I've never found those websites worth using.
I'll be damned if I'm going to read all of War and Peace to my students!

So does that mean we should just throw our hands up and stop trying? That really sounds like intelligent design.

It should read "FBI steals library computers..."
You can use * between two terms to indicate any word and more * mean more words so it is a kind of manual proximity search. There is also a google proximity search using the google api and one for yahoo.

They must be trust fund kids then if they can afford the phone and the monthly bill...
Here's the actual Forbes article rather than a link to a website that links to the article.
