Ahem. There is a lot of NEXTSTEP hidden under the hood of MacOS X. Cocoa is the NS API. The only thing missing is Display Postscript, which was replaced by Display PDF. PDF is a bit nicer than Postscript (IMHO) I am missing the NEXTSTEP Windowmanager, which was written in Postscript.. (/usr/lib/NextStep/windowPackage.ps anyone?)
Nice to see ReiserFS is included in the 2.4.1 Kernel. I am using it for 1,5 or so Years now and never had problems, except that one time where a Ram chip barfed. In my eyes ReiserFS is a stable and proven Filesystem, which is a lot more efficient and faster than ext2.
Nice article, but you are missing a few facts here. First thing is, you got the year of the game setting a little bit wrong. Original Shadowrun starts 2050. The important point you missed is that Shadowrunners are criminals, downright outlaws, who give a damn about law and order. (well not all of them). They are outsiders, not recognised by the state. Most of them also lack a SIN (Social Identification Number for all non-players out there), Medical Insurance et al. The comparison might fit on some points, but you just can't compare today individualists to the generic Shadowrunner. Most Shadowrunners have only one goal in life: to see the next day dawn with an at least halfway intact body without bullet wounds.

Why not hooking this thing up to a Wireless-to-Ethernet-converter? Of course you would need an AP for this, but hey ;)

As for the parallel MP3 encoder, try gogo. (I lost the link somewhere) but it is really fast on my Dual Pentium 233 here.
The License wasn't GPL. If you used MySQL to build a commercial product, you had to pay license fees, AFAIR.
