The first might be helpfull for a non-developer trying to run windows stuff on a non-PC. The later is just a port of winelib. Winelib is of interest only to existing windows programmers who want to port stuff to linux (or Darwin with this).. Winelib is like GTK for Windows.
Has anyone gotten Pirates! to work under Frodo, or any other '64 emulator for that matter? Every once in a while I download Frodo again, and immedeaitly try to run Pirates!, but it crashes after I set up my character.. Grr..
Uh, no. WINE (while not an emulator) emulates the Windows OS, and its APIs. It does not emulate (or even virtualize) hardware. Macs run on different hardware then Windows.
That being said, while I havent seen any recently (not ever caring to look), at one point you could get a 'pc on a card' for your Mac (And Sparcsation, for that matter). They included (at least) a Intel chip, and enough bios code and glue to pop up a PC in a window on your mac.
AOL must have some way of directly converting energy into matter, specificly CDs ala Star Treks replicators. The proof being that if they arn't the entire earths resources would have been consumed 2 or 3 times over in their production via conventional means.
And all that energy to matter conversion has increased the mass of the Earth. Which has increased its gravatational field, and the effects of everything elses field on it. Thus the earth is moving faster.
HDTV is still only something like 1100 lines of resolution, which is about where computer displays are typically set to these days. 10 years ago, 640x480 on 14" monitors was typical. Today, 15" monitors are standard, at 1024x768 - 1280x1024. But wait a couple of years and the entry level systems will be 17" monitors running at 1600x1400. And when that happens, web pages will be built for that... And they will look like crap on your low-resolution, HDTV.
The problem with video phones is that you have a choice of looking at the person your talking to, or looking into the camera. If you look at the screen, the camera dosent pick up your eyes, so your not making 'eye contact', and the conversation is distracting, possibly to the point of being painfull. If you look into the camera, you cant see the person your talking to. In which case, why are you using a video phone?
Its a failure of ergonomics, and of human computer interaction... Physics mean that the sociology just dosent work.

The problem with Apache 2.x is not the quality of it, per se, but of third party modules. Officialy PHP is unsupported with 2.x (though LOTs of sites use it, trouble free). I dont think mod_perl is either.. And even if perl does work, there are a lot of additional perl modules that arent quite upto date.
Personaly, I think your last statement is exactly wrong. Desigining a programming language leads to things like Modula-2. These bondage and diciplen languages are used a lot in classrooms, but infrequently in the real world.
Programming, as in speeking or writing, is very much about expression. You can use English to write very exact and formal documents (technical texts, legal contracts, etc), and very free flowing, expressive works (poems, prose...). English dosent impose a level of formality on the writer, the writer decides for himself the level of formality required.
Perl, I think, is about the only computer language that has the range of applications (on a formality scale) equal to that of a human language. You can use it in a very haphazard way for quick and dirty works, and by applying a bit of self imposed formality, use it to develop very large, formal, works. Perl can, if you want it to, impose a lot of formality as well. You can use both exteeems in the same project: prototype stuff quickly, and itterativly work over it formalizing it as the project grows. And for any sufficently large project there are going to be a few spots where a one or two line perl 'hack', which would cause a Language Lawyers head to explode, simply makes more sence then the 100 line formal equalavent would.
The problem with other languages that impose a level of formality is that the language designers idea of Good Code is not necessaraly the same as my idea of Good Code.
That being said, Perl has a few warts. And thats why Perl 6 is taking so long: its hard to figgure out what warts are good warts and what warts are bad ones.
Because the goal of perl was not to develop yet another interpertered language. The origional goal was to take two already interperted languages, sed and awk, and smash them together. Like smelting two types of metal, and lo and behold what appeared was a perl. And ugly perl, one that was clearly built from two separate things, but a perl none the less.

He said 'rack'. Racks are bolted to the floor, otherwise they fall over if you put anything in them over about 300 grams. Unless he dosent know what he is talking about and meant 'cabnit'. Which, given the question, is quite possible.
You have something that needs power that isnt close to an outlet. You dont want to use extension cords. You dont want to get new outlets installed. So far as I understand how electricity, only the subject is left.
Your true. Since the grand parent's poster was complaning about what Europeans would consiter very cheep gas (and Canadians consiter a deal, but not more so then any thing eles in the states (which has changed in the last 6 mo, re: strong Canadian Dollar)), the US Federal, and state, governments clearly would not beable to 'get away' with any kind of European style gas tax. Oil companies would go insane if the Feds tried to impose (larger) import duties, or a national, gas, sales tax. And while the states might beable to withstand the oil lobbiests, unless they got all ajacent states to increase tax at about the same rate, people would just drive accross the border to fill up. (ala the reduction of cigarett tax in various Canadian provences ~5 years ago)
But, on the other hand, 'freeways' cost money in the US. I doubt if there are 500km total of toll highways in all of Canada. I know that one that was built as a toll highway had its booths torn down within days of a new provincal government being elected.
Its not about getting cheep oil to the US consumer, its about getting cheep oil to the US oil companies, so they can sell it to the consumer at a profit.
Gas in Europe (which is significantly closer to the oil fields) is about double the price then it is in the US.
I dont submit these as a subscriber of the oil company conspiricy theroy loby, they are true regardless of US forgin policy in the middle east.
Worst case is, as you have mentioned but I will highlight: you will have access to less credit that they have given you. I will repeat: wose case, you will have less access to a service someone is offering to you which they are not obligated to give you.
Foul! Your offering to lend me money, and now you wont! Oh no! You bastards!
And unless you complain about fraud either a lot (which makes the CC companies assume its YOU doing the fraud), or its over some amount like $3000, it gets reversed with basicly zero hasle.
Its been thought of. And more or less refuted in general. And while I cant find the link, I remember a groklaw admin specificly stating that being slashdotted wasent an issue; they could handle it.

Or possibly space dust.

Initially Microsoft was a developement tools company. Get your facts straight.
Yes. If it wasent for Linus, we wouldnt be talking about Linus.

Perl has screwed me over lots of times. Its due.
While they just anounced a specific schedule, the plan has always been to have very aggressive/short release cycles.
Uh, the whole point of Fedora Core 1 is that it is bleeding edge. If your want something that is stable, FC-1 isnt it.
When I was finished reading the intro I was thinking "No one has ever written a game that would have enough cheet codes"...
You sure that wasent Oragon Trail and your teacher was lazy?
Or at lease sell lines to them. So they sell to two classes of users, both of which are asymmetrical, but in reverse. It all works out in the end.

You might not want to be advertising that fact. Sledge hammers and fingers dont interact all that well.
