    I use the Chrome plugin called "Empty New Tab Page", which I think may be what you're looking for. I looked at several of them before deciding on this one...

    Because the image URLs are rewritten to the Google proxy server, you can no longer copy and paste rich text with embedded images from Gmail into another application. That really sucks. I need to do that all the time for a certain client. It looks like I'm now going to have to get a separate webmail service just to be able to copy and paste rich text. Ridiculous.

    The persistent "top stories" garbage is basically the reason I deactivated my Facebook account and haven't been back in a year. I couldn't handle the "random chaos feed" taking back over randomly. It was so frustrating to be going down the feed and then realizing that it's all out of order and you've already read parts of it. Seriously, WTF. I hope they don't screw up Instagram like that.

    I absolutely agree with this. In my home life, I search because Gmail Search actually works. At the office with Outlook, search is terrible, so I just put a few important things in a saved folder and delete everything else. And clear out my trash every quarter.

    I do the same thing! They will not stop sending me "Network Update" emails, even though I have turned them off in mail settings. No response to two support requests. That site is such a pain in the ass.

    I love the idea of the feature -- I hate stopping to listen to voice mails. ...but I got the most ludicrous / hilarious translation yesterday. Pure poetry!

    Good to know about the "helpful? / donate" feature (from a comment above), which I did for this one...
