  1. Re:Blocking email addresses? on Parents To Block Kids From Joining MySpace · · Score: 1

Here's where I say "I hope he doesn't take too much advantage of that trust". I've seen it happen. And, yes, I'm hoping that you're "The Parent" who discusses things and makes sure everything is crystal clear. Because I've talked to SO MANY people who say the same thing...who just assume that their trust means something to their kid. *sigh* Kids can be so awesome. But, at the same time, complete bastards. Regardless of how great their parents are.

Not to sound trollish....but, science is getting close. We have the Graple. (Pronounced Grape-l). It's only a matter of time before we have apple flavored oranges or orange flavored apples. Plus, Graples actually taste pretty good. So, I say, Screw the Norm!

  3. Re:Misses the point on Who Pays For Credit Card Breaches? · · Score: 1

You, as a merchant, are paying for bad habits that every employee of every establishment that accepts visa or mastercard makes. When was the last time you were ASKED for your ID to validate against the signature? (Not the last time you willingly handed them your ID.) And, then, there are the actual theft rings, who gain employment at locations with high turnaround rates (gas stations, restaurants, hotels)...who checks their backgrounds? Who checks backgrounds for a 7-11 employee? So, yes, you pay exorbitant fees. If the police get involved, your taxes pay for the work they put into it. The fee you pay does the same. A Loss Prevention Officer has to do the legwork, you get charged if someone uses a stolen or copied card. But, I think, on both ends....police should be giving some FREE training to employers to teach to their employees regarding nipping fraud in the butt. Because, the more you, a merchant, know about preventing fraud in your store, the less you'll ever have to pay in chargebacks.

See, it's stuff like that...that's why I'm of two minds about these "discoveries". On one hand, this kid totally deserves a normal life. On the other hand, so do people like your step-mother and half-brother. I'm mostly thinking out loud here....It would be wonderful if they could study this kid without constantly "studying" him. Find out what, if any, benefits his body gave him. On the other hand, his muscles may end up to be his own debilitation. Which would, in itself, be sad.

Sadly, I'm all for this, and I'm usually against litigation unless necessary. For a company who appears to get a great deal out of suing people who can't afford it, I'd say that this one would be a fair fight. You created the software that they used. They stripped your information from it, in essence, to make it look like one of their programmers coded it. Too bad for them that you caught it! (and, yeah, it still counts if it was an intern that "didn't know better".

Yup. Especially when it comes to RPG's (usually what I play)...it's like the difference between reading an awesome book, and renting the movie. And then taking a test on it. Sure, the movie gives you the gist of it, but you don't experience it the same as you would have if you had immersed yourself completely into the pages. Or, maybe I'm just one of those weird chicks that reads too much and plays too many RPG's. Yeah, probably that one.

Between game guides that come out either the day of, or shortly after, game releases, websites dedicated to game cheats, accessories like Game Shark (and the like)....there is so much opportunity to NOT actually play the game, it almost seems like more people play the game just to win, rather than to, oh, I don't know, play the game. I'm not saying that everyone should sit all day and just play video games, because, between "bedsores", muscle atrophy, and abnormal social skills, it's yet another thing kids don't need to make life harder for them outside the house. But, I remember, back in the day, how f'ing proud I was to know that I could, all by myself, complete the whole game of Legend of Zelda without my big brother to help me. I was 8. And, now, I find myself tsking when my kid brother, now 12, can't deal with his FPS game long enough to learn how to strafe, duck, crouch, or run in game...so, let's get a cheat that makes me invincible! Yay! That just took ALL of the skill out of the game!! *sigh* It's not about honest gaming anymore. I think there are a whole 15 people on the planet that do that anymore.
