There are no legitimate arguments against file sharing, such that you could restrict, ban, or impede it based on the fact there are many who use the technology for illegal purposes.
There is nothing unethical about peer-to-peer file sharing technology itself. The same exact type of arguments used against file sharing technology could be used against the web, the US postal service, highways, and street corners.
I hardly think it is my fault that the list was stupid and that the webpage the list was listed on was spammy. If it would have been a less than stupid list on a non-spamish website, I would have given it a better review. But being accused of trolling without getting the pleasure of having actually trolled.....that just makes me sad.:(
This article has everything. Microsoft coming to the realization, in 2007 mind you, that OMGWEB2.0!1!!1 is important, and somehow connecting that to the end of big fat Linux. Of course, this trend will have no effect on the sleek, lightweight, new paradigm, thinking-out-of the-box Vista.
Maybe the US patent office will issue Microsoft a patent on their new ideas about "rich client programming", and in 5 or 6 years the general public will believe that Microsoft "invented" something.
I heard an interview on BBC's world service about this incident yesterday with a scientology spokesman. The spokesman denied well known quotes from L Ron Hubbard and also stated that that Sweeny was making up allegations that he was being harassed by the "Church" for his documentary.
Then the spokesman boarded a space craft and flew back to Oz. Not really...I made that last part up.
we get ridiculous inconsistencies like this one. And they do it all the time, so...
These loopholes are the main reasons that the panel ruled the U.S. is violating trade laws. Because the U.S. allows certain types of online gambling transactions to take place within its borders, but actively tries to stop the same services from being offered by companies located outside the U.S., the U.S. is violating WTO agreements.
To be in compliance with the WTO ruling, seems to me that the US would either need to close the loopholes (horse and dog racing simulcasting, for example) or drop the provisions against wired transactions for other forms of gambling. The easiest fix would be the latter, IMO.
The charge of stalking, clearly a bully movie by the hypocrite cop. I hope the judge has the good sense of dismissing this nonsense. The home owners had every right to install cameras on their own property. The cop had no expectation of privacy whilst in public. By the same logic, the Rodney King video could have been considered "stalking".
It was 19 hundred and ninety and eight, when I, a mere computing novice, rushed to the store and purchased the latest and greatest update to windows to my perfectly operable 5 month old PC. After the "upgrade", my system was trashed. The cd rom worked half the time, my favorite game became extremly buggy, and the sound showed up whenever it took a notion. And all of this was accompanied by oh so many pretty blue screens, with their helpful messages and hexadecimal character strings.
So Microhard can keep their Vista eye candy and I will keep my reasonably operable XP SP2. And this will be my last windows system, thank you very much.
"Indeed, Richard Silver, who filed the copyright for the Electric Slide in 2004"
I find it suspicious that he waited to 2004 to file for a copyright, when I was doing this dance "on the moon" as early as 1990.
On his website, this guy also claims to have invented break-dancing.
I think he's just a fruit loop or two short of a full bowl.
yet they can't write memos worth a damn. The one from Allchin is atrocious. If I were to write a memo to Bill Gates, I would at least proof read it. Of course, the threats I would insert into such a memo would probably have far worse consequences than a few grammatical errors.
Linux has a great potential to balance out the power in the OS market (eventually), but not if this lunatic attacks every big enterprise that attempts to promote it and scares away big name investors. Novell has the right to enter into any arrangement it likes with the devil (Microsoft), as long as it does not violate the GPL.
Short clips of their programs are just free advertising and add to the popularity of the shows. I can understand wanting to eliminate whole episodes, however.
The guy was just being a jackass. As a matter of fact, if you want to have a little fun, hire an attorney to send that VP your own notice of intent to sue. Maybe state that you are going to sue him for being a jackass.

One of the basic problems here is companies like TiVo who have been sold on the idea that it is their place to enforce the law.

from years of spamming the US patent office with garbage.
