What about Webpage? No one has mentioned it. I mean, seriously, how many of you who have content on the net have "A Webpage?" My biggest offenders are usually the Spanish speaking community. "Oh yeah i have a web page. You can click on the links to see what i'm talking about."
I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad one but, i've never heard of some of this words until this article...
Blogosphere upsets me and wtf is folksonomy?????????
I'm no parent but, maybe the reason is because the parents were excited about the first kid right, then as the years passed by they got frustrated. So when they had another kid they might have been like "oh not this shit again!" So they didn't pay as much attention to the poor bastard.
This i think would make sense, especially in low income families where children are a burden to some. I wonder what this study would look like if broken down by income.
Well, i'd rather have mind controlled craft going about war than autonomous robots like terminators! My only concern is interference, whether accidental or intentional.
Hacking of course is going to be a problem, but what happens when you lose communication with the craft? Will they be programmed to continue their mission, maintain a flight patter what? Nothing can be good because it's like the driver falling asleep for a bit.
But it is a cool idea though, it'd be bad ass to be able to talk to people by showing them images of what i think. Why talk at the speed of sound when you can see at the speed of thought.
In some countries, it is not allowed to display one's patriotism by wearing the flag on your ass as underwear and continuing to leave skid marks on it as the years go by.
At the same time, it is good to have those drawers because you are free to do so, if you like.
If the law says, "you can't make mixed cd's because of the law" then i don't comprehend why they should be exempt. The little girl and her disabled mother weren't exempt, and neither are any of us when they decide to come after us "if they believe they have a case against us." So if it's so obvious that the twins broke this law, why not pursue it? I mean, if it's documented and easily provable why not go forth with the full extent of the law?
When i was pulled over for "running a red light" in Pasadena, I was worried about paying a fine. When i showed up in court and was charged with speeding, i was like "oh noes, there goes my insurance!" Being the first time i've been pulled over, i was a little nervous, so i guess i didn't ask the correct questions to find out what i had done wrong AND what i had been charged with. Maybe the fact that i had a gun put in my face had something to do with that.
I see the recording of officers of the law as a good thing from the civilian perspective. It can only insure that they do their job, which is everything they are expected and assumed to do. Doing it correctly, fairly, without treating the "innocent until proven guilty" as escaped convicts. And if it can help prove abuse then it can't be a bad thing, from this perspective.
What i think could be bad is the fact of how people act when they know they are being watched. I don't know about you, but most people become nervous when they are being watched. That is why so many have problems speaking in public, and find it easy to use the net! But even if the officers can't see someone recording them, it could be in their minds and possibly harm their judgment.
The problem with officers is that it is not black and white. The laws protecting us from each other, and those protecting officers from us are pretty bad. For example, recently i was told by a trainer for the so cal area that officers aren't allowed to hit people with batons, this has been so for a while, but the flashlight is ok! Now, that isn't the best way of describing the circumstances, but that's how it works out. Do we want officers to be scared to "protect" themselves if need be because they might lose their job? They aren't in a situation where they can get written up for following or breaking company policy, they can end up dead on the side of the street.
If we could deploy some sort of wide spread camera system like england seems to have, that would definitely take away the added stress of "they could be watching me" and hopefully they'd be "acting normally."
One last thing worth noting from my personal experience, i've seen sherrifs race late at night on major streets. More than a few times working at in n out my buddies and i thought it was some sort of muscle car race or emergency cop take off when we would hear loud engines or peeling out tires, only to see the cars stop at the next light and take off again.
Its instances like these i wish someone would have recorded the cop putting the gun in my face when i reached for my insurance when he had asked me to get it for him!
It sounds like it could possibly be a good thing, but if AMD kicks the bucket then it's bad, because we're stuck with Intel only.
On the other hand, it isn't always great to have too much competition. A while back residents of California were told that they could be paying less for the electric bill if they had more choices, because of competition. Once the electric utilities were deregulated, then "their options went up." What followed shortly after the long debates was a recalled governor and rolling black outs.
I personally never had experienced a rolling black out until the deregulation occurred. As a matter of fact, no one i knew had been through one either until that point.
How about just calling it SMUT? Super Multi User Terminal. Or maybe some other non-catchy/racy eh normal word. How about Stuff? "Hey i just installed the new stuff on my computer, it's bad ass." Hey, Stuff worked for the magazine! If windows is THAT BAD for some, then maybe it's time to move on... You can always use call it iBSD.
And as for the person who said "... nerds don't use junk..." You stand corrected! GhettoBSD came about because of the ghetto hardware it ran on! 25mhz (on turbo) 16MB ram baby!
You know, the first *nix i tried to try was red hat on a 100mhz pos - that didn't work. Shortly after i tried FreeBSD and never looked back, but i was a bit promiscuous with other linux distros. Out of all the linux i've tried, i've never found one to be as easy as fbsd. Some say it's because what i learned to use first, but even then, for me that doesn't fully cover it.
One of the reasons i preferred it over linux was the ports collections and it's ease of use. Trying to install debian rpm's on red hat or, even debian was a pain in the ass! Most of the time they worked smoothly, but i was too much of a newb to figure it out in linux.
The other neat thing about fbsd vs some linux i've tried is that when you install from the ports collection, it gets the dependencies for you. I'm sure linux does this in some sort of fashion, but like i've said, it's been a while since i've really tried it again.
And i will finally agree that "installing software was brain dead easy." I've never had a problem installing fbsd. Although i've used the other bsds and ran them for a while, i've always found my home on fbsd, even on a machine when it shared win2k/xp and suse!
I've never tried to "convert" anyone to any BSD, but i have told them of my experiences and a few have taken my advice. I mean, if you really want a great AND easy BSD go with os X! But if you want to have a little bit more "power" (however you want to take that) go with BSD. I've found os x systems a little restrictive for me, but then again that's probably because of my lack of time with them.
In the end it boils down to what you really need, who can provide it, what you can afford (if it's an issue) and what you like! Go BSD!

"... it took a real emphasis on quality and design to get back on track..." "They produce a product that is perceived to be of high quality and meets its market's demand..."
You are right!! They did go through some hand swapping and made a come back with the promise to make better shit, but they failed. But, point #2 is dead on, they are "perceived to be of high quality."
I like how many people see my bike and say "nice harley." I even like the old dudes who pull up next to me in bmws or other sport luxury coups and say, "what kind of harley is that? a road king?" hahaha
And harley isn't the only manufacturer with 1 pin in their v-twins, honda also has one in their ACE bikes.
In my group of riding buddies, i'm known as the "parts bike" because i'm the only one who has a reliable ride... a honda.
Why must we digitize the brain? Why use augmented e-brains? Ghost in the Shell (Japanese Anime) has some really cool stuff that i don't see is impossible. From all the stuff i tell my buddies at work that i read from/., it is almost possible to have at least an e-brain!
I am saying it's possible, just not maybe now. Back in the day, your only choice to go to a different land was to sail for a few months, if you were lucky. Other lands, a little more time. By the time you went, saw and came back, a few years have passed by.
SO, with what we know now, why all the fuss of "no that's never possible." Anything is possible with enough time, money and desire. I mean really, how many people have said "a woman can never be president..." hahaha
I think google has gone about this all wrong, and you guys too! Why not use a BSD system, like FreeBSD? You see, why worry about people finding holes in YOUR system, when they'll be busy finding holes in others? Then, google can just nicely bolt on their software and voila!
But seriously, if you're going to run a desktop, and then if you're going to implement any sort of OS, why not use a BSD OS? I've used linux and bsd systems, and have consistently found that bsd's share interoperability across their packages. FreeBSDs ports are bitchen. But i've had tons of problems with linux, mostly because i don't spend a lot of time on those systems. But when i try to get a program running on a different flavor, for ME it's a pain in my ass. My buddy on the other hand likes to torture himself and figure it out.
There's always GhettoBSD -- "The system you know that work out of the box. At least we're honest about it!"
You know, many years ago when they first opened the BB store in covina/west covina, my buddy and i used to go there a lot. We were still in H.S. and pretty poor, well more cheap than poor. The point is that we noticed that we were being over charged EVERY time we shopped there. Being the cheap bastards, we'd calculate our purchases (games at the time) with tax included. So we always had JUST enough. And you wouldn't believe it we were off a couple of bucks every time. Well, my buddy just blamed my math being off just a little so we just paid the extra (that was our food money!) and went on with our business. But i got tired of that shit and took a calculator, and sure enough, we still got over charged! After we paid for our product, we busted out the calculator and showed the cashier and they called the manager over. We got our $1.20 back and that was "the end of it." But we made sure to tell the "manager" that this ALWAYS happened. They said they'd look into it. Well we went back a couple more times after that and it was the same deal -- but now we always got our money back and only paid the correct amount. I wonder if anyone else ever caught this? Imagine $1 for each item purchased from each customer each day... thats a LOT of money! I'm all for a class action lawsuit if you guys know about this!

lord knows we could use another free hand...
Freedom of speech is a good/bad law.
In some countries, it is not allowed to display one's patriotism by wearing the flag on your ass as underwear and continuing to leave skid marks on it as the years go by.
