I'll fight the abuse and the abusers, not the tools that can be abused.
the issue is that in this case, you won't be able to fight the abuse or the abusers. if they don't need warrent, you won't even know who they are
i'm no lawyer, but i'm under the impression that the police can't pull you over and search your car for beer bottles without having a reason to do so. and if they can, i'll be agaisnt that too. forcing the government to get a warrant to wiretap etc means they have to have a demonstrable reason to wiretap. i dont think anyone's agaisnt warranted wiretapping - its the unwarranted that is an issue.
i'm not aware of one. i'm not sure its really possible from skin conductance.. my extremely limited understanding of that it that it mostly fluctuates with emotion, i suppose in this case the anticipation of being about to jump. that sounds ok for a binary input, how would you do directions though?
i'd argue that being able to access your data from anywhere over the internet will provide a lot of value for average customers. so using it with their products isnt the only advantage; not everyone wants to mess around with rdesktop or the like.
like, dont brick it immediately upon connecting to a foreign machine, but rather start a week or so countdown. it'll still charge during the countdown, and of course once you reconnect it to your authorized machine everything reset and good to go.
i dont actually like the idea (i'm rather agaisnt it), i'm just thinking about implementations that would not screw over the user and yet also still have value. what do people think?
either the programmers need to come up with a single bot that can adjust its style of play
that doesn't make any sense. the single bot adjusts its style of play by switching between its various "personalities". maybe strategies would be a better term for them.
does anyone know if genetic algorithms were used by Polaris at all? i'd love to see some results on that, giving it a huge range of strategies and having it play agaisnt real people (i guess in an online casino) until it had enough game information to make some really solid choices. sounds like an interesting study.
The summary is a bit misleading. It leaves out a critical section of the order. I've included the first paragraph with the important part bold:
I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, find that, due to the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States posed by acts of violence threatening the peace and stability of Iraq and undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq and to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people, it is in the interests of the United States to take additional steps with respect to the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13303 of May 22, 2003, and expanded in Executive Order 13315 of August 28, 2003, and relied upon for additional steps taken in Executive Order 13350 of July 29, 2004, and Executive Order 13364 of November 29, 2004. I hereby order:...
Is omission of such critical information in order to forward an agenda dishonest?
Next, the Guardian linked gets it right, however, the link should read the new authority CAN only be used to go after terrorists, since using acts of violence threatening the peace and stability of Iraq is pretty much a terrorist act. I don't have a problem with the gov't blocking the bank accounts of terrorists!
the section you quoted doesnt have anything to do with the actual order. he's listing the reasons why he's signing this order. as evidenced by the last words of what you quoted, "I hereby order..." followed by what i assume is the actual order.
so no, the omission isn't dishonest, since it doesnt have anything to do with whose assests he's freezing or why (the problem), only why he's decided to take this power (the excuse).
man, theres a lot of hate in this thread.
"Hardcore gamers say, "I understand Nintendo trying to expand the audience. But why don't they listen to us?" It is because hardcore gamers ARE the problem with gaming. Microsoft and Sony listened to them and look at where that got them. The more Nintendo defies the hardcore, the more their success."
they aren't the problem, although they may admittedly not be very good at predicting market movements. what do you even mean when you say they're the "problem", that doesn't make sense. and the 360 is doing pretty well as i understand, sure not as well as the Wii but, so?
i think that the Wii is pretty much in a different market than the ps3 or the 360 at this point and comparing them is not exactly fair (a bit like comparing a mac to a "pc"). i don't own a Wii as i dont have much interest in mini-games, and aside from the newest versions of classic 1st party titles (zelda, smash, metroid, etc), that seems to be all it has to offer. that doesnt mean i dont see the appeal of such games to a very large audience. and i'm not pissed at nintendo for "abandoning" me as many people seem to be. if you do feel that way, sony and MS are more than happy to pour a balm in your wounds.
So WiiFit or whatever makes a ton of sense. its not up my alley (frankly i think it looks pretty lame) but i'm not gonna get all mad about nintendo's direction. i'd rather play an actual sport or an actual video game, not some hybrid of the two, but thats my preference and i'm sure other people have other preferences.
for now, hard core gamers still have 2 consoles, 3 platforms (pc), and no real reason to complain.

i defenitely have a problem with it.
