Amen and having both redudency in the computer, human, sensor, and all other parts is a good thing (TM). Having a computer + human is better then having just a human, unless the human relies to heavily on the computer and looses any capacity to be a backup (the case when it comes to me googling bugs for software).
However properly trained humans and programmed cars might work. But I can already see humans fighting programmed cars for control and causing all kinds of modes of failure, as 99.9% of all humans have their own driving code, which is nothing like what we should all be educated, and no were near the best.
Ive met maybe 2 other people in my 31 year life that I think have a remotely good driving subroutine.
Thanks for the informative response. Why farms buy into the GMO seeds makes more sense now.
I sure as hell wouldn't want to. However I'm no farmer. To me it just seems like a dangerous game to play in business. My brief time in IT, locked into proprietary products has taught me a great lesson to use the MIT liscenced stuff whenever you can. So I never looked at it from that perspective.
My biggest complaint is companies dictating to farmers what to grow, how to grow it, and producing plants that cannot grow on their own, you must buy our special seeds and special "germination spray" each year.... My 2cnd concern, is in "corn" in even the hybridized selectively bread corn, no part of the plant is very toxic.
My 3rd concern is, we are doing something that could affect the planet as a whole. Wipe out all the naturally selected for fish. Its not baseless. Its not impossible. The chances aren't 0, or so close to 0 as to be un noticable.
Some tertiary arguments: The FDA is not likely to be able to judge appropriately on these issues Its going to happen somewhere by someone on the planet someway. Were probably going to have to fix it by further genetic tinkering.
Currently the people rolling out these wonderful GMO products are bad people with a history of abusing everyone not at the top of their corporate pyramid, check out the lawsuits, and legal frenzy all over.
Nobody stops anyone from making cheap boxes for everyone everywhere.
Lego is successful despite the competition from Mega Bloks and Best-Lock. What do you lose from Lego still being around?
Your right, but I was responding to:
+1 this. Lego needed to move in this direction. Megablocks gained market share by sleeping with large franchises. In the face of rapidly shrinking market share, Lego had little other choice than doing the same.
The parent makes this sound like its a bad thing that lego has had to change is business model. I was pointing out that, yes, this may be the end result, and lego will change or disapear as we knew it back in the early 80's or before.
Its not a bad thing, but I am a little disapointed to see lego "latching on, and selling out" to remain viable in its old market rather then transforming completely. I was trying to make a broader argument maybe, that some corporations need to experience death at the end of their life, rather then living on life support from diversification, or other projects. The caplitol or wealth used to build that corporation doesnt magically disapear when they die (should not). It should be distributed to 2 or 3 new ones.
Look at Vivendi a french company from Napoleanic times that started out as a water source monoploy and is now in control of vast swaths of multi-media real-estate. I'm starting to argue myself into a hole here though, and were moving into the territory of how wealth changes hands. Just a thought I put out there.
I am not a doctor, or medical professional. I cant source the original article that lead me to believe it was the norm, but appearently its not. Thanks for the informative response.

Welcome to slashdot, where wars are won with moderation. Sometimes its hard to get our point across here. God only knows. Its probably not even relating to you or the fact that you had an informative story in your own thread, someone somewhere is arguing about the science of calories and here you are collateral damage because your evidence does not fit their bell curve.
I can confirm this. But I was less sedentary then you. However caloric intake does not correlate linearly or causaly with obesity. It can but its not a 1:1 for certain 100% thing.
6kcal MRE's twice a day. 3 bottles of Dr Pepper, and a whole pizza per day. Shit should have killed me.
At 30 I can barely eat 1lb of high protien low carb, and drink water all the time and I can gain weight. Allot has to do with water weight it seems, some has to do with activity levels which are much more sedentary now.
The human body contains trillions of microorganisms — outnumbering human cells by 10 to 1. Because of their small size, however, microorganisms make up only about 1 to 3 percent of the body's mass (in a 200-pound adult, that’s 2 to 6 pounds of bacteria), but play a vital role in human health.
We are quite litterly crawling with bacteria and other shit. Their very critical to our health.
Now what is scary is we have GMO companies that want to produce cows that produce milk with GMO bacteria for us to be their perfect little labratories...
To try to be more clear and cite from the article directly:
Alice provides her two measured classical bits, which indicate which of the four states Bob possesses. Bob applies a unitary transformation which depends on the classical bits he obtains from Alice, transforming his qubit into an identical re-creation of the qubit c.
This is how quantum encryptian works. You can tell that Alice did something because Bobs bits react a specific way to Alices information. There is no way to tell if this happend instantly because Alice has never been able to get bob the results non-relativisticly. No proof for FTL exists, but the theory says thats how it works, and that its impossible to prove.
I'm just saying just because the experiment cant prove it, doesnt mean it doesnt happen all the time =)
I still have not figured out an experiment to prove it myself, but the ones about predetermined results are pretty cool.
I rememeber getting that idea from reading about quantum teleportation. When you change an entangled pair of particles, the state changes for both simultaneously. No time differential. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_teleportation
The wikipedia isnt the only source. I have read about this one a number of times, some whitepapers, some pop-sci writeups, some discovery, some arguing on slashdot and other places. The wiki article seems pretty well to define what I'm talking about in more technical terms. We have instintaneously changed the state of one particle without having to traverse time and space to do it. The effect was observed at relativistic speeds. No ansible. FTL yes. In fact, no speed at all because it was instant. Like Dunes spacing from one place to the next.
To really try and get my point across. To do the experiment you need to take information with you from point A to B at sublight speed, but the information is used to change the state of the particle in both places at exactly the same time. This happens after the information has traversed from A to be. You cant use it to transport the information, but the particles do in fact break causality once the information is used.
I like how all of these current politicaly hip ideas " gambling, child pornography or copyright infringement" to regulate are all being lumped into the same bill.
I hate to say this but they are all nothing alike, and the reasons for blocking each individualy differ quite a bit. To make it secret is even worse. Why don't you do the internet a service and educate people about these issues directly.
Should some things be blocked, taken down, raided, removed from the group think, yep, definately child porn, but lets not erode everything else to do it. It can be done responsably.
I suppose you will take down WALL STREET's webs since their all about gambling. Or the myriad content producers who violate their own rules. (disney recently in the news asking google to filter its own results out of the web)
President Bush Obama (clinton), healthcare, children, oppression, tyranny, Iran, China, outsource, oil, jobs, rockafeller, media, news, control, mind, aliens, UFOs, nuclear, uranium, corporations, godwin, (a bunch of religious shit which I am not well versed enough in, anyone wanna take up that mantra?)
Indeed, particularly the standards of porn have been hard hit.
Back in the day the free porn you could stumble apon was top quality. I'm not talking about the stuff people pirate now. I'm talking about those old fashioned fashoined porn TGP's (thumbnail gallery posts) with celebrities and everything else.
Now its all low bitrate or res, ad ridden main stream anal videos, fake cumshot, and wow facter XTREME bullshit.
The well sorted and unique decent res amatuers are all gone, and girls in it just because their slutty and love it are almost all gone. Oh how I lement the loss and obscurity of those high quality TGP's.
Now its all about the big bucks and corporate porn fascism ruling all.
I agree people shouldn't neccissarily be thrown under a bus because a radical group makes life hard. But you don't see me voulenteering for this duty in the UN. I also don't feel good about personally ordering (expecting) someone to deal with this situation themselves.
However I felt like sharing my opinion. So I am an armchair philosopher. At least here I get to interact in a peaceful way debating this type of stuff. I think if I felt a clear and present threat from polio I would worry about it, maybe even be motivated to find a solution I felt good about.
I really am not immensely worried about polio taking over the 1st world. Could be from ignorance. I never experienced polio or knew anyone that did. I also don't get out much anymore so rarely get a chance to get sick. Have not had a vaccine myself since I left the military. Haven't needed one either. I'm not living in a polio infested slum.
It is also a missuse of the moderation system, however it was slightly inflamatory. The way parent states all people with beliefs against the current authoritative response to vaccines and forgien aid are conspiratorial nuts. This is not 100% accurate.
But are these people YOUR responsability really? Their outside of the monkeysphere. I say we should leave them be if they are this crazy. However another person made a point that the Taliban are radicals and no the prime directive doesnt really apply because they potentially have the same technological level to resist.
Civilians should institute basic guidlines and limits for the military.
And the military should follow its orders and creed to uphold those. See constitution, bill of rights, and maybe for nuclear weapons further legislation.
Just because we humans can not commnicate using quantum entanglement over large distances violating causality.
Does not mean that the universe itself cannot violate causality. Our observations are limited. To the point that we may never see or understand causality being broken.
Now on the other side there are a few papers out there demonstrating that causality has been observed being boken. For example the result of an experiment being predetermined.
All this means is that human beings living in a relativisticly understood universe with relativistic sensors, can never create an ansible. Current theory does not allow for the construction for one, but does not preclude their existence.
Consicely: Information does infact travel faster then light, the observation of this result does not, there fore we cannot conclusively prove it but thats what the theory states.
Agreed expert fighters (read killers not showmen or sportsmen) don't resort to punching as their first means of downing their oponents. Your elbow is far superior to your fist. Though the fist and knuckles have some specific opportunistic uses.
Just because its better to punch with a human fist then a monkey fist, does not mean it was adapted for fighting, just that it got granfathered in as a 2cndary trait or use.
I believe the actual cause for adaptation has more to do with the manipulation or gripping of tools, in that case its designed very well for smashing your oponents over the head with a heavy peice of femur. (see 2001 a space oddesy)
This is why hardware with encryption at the chip levels is the military holy grail and why you destroy your equipment if you can and your going to be captured by the enemy. But even that is not perfect.
