Visionless people like yourself will be the death of humanity. I would glady pay any amount of money just to have the *experience* of leaving earth just once. There doesn't need to be any "point", doing it is reason enough.
This is why I check Kuro5hin everyday and Slashdot only when I feel masochistic.
Really? I did exactly the opposite. K5 was pissing me off with countless "meta" stories, articles that blathered on and on about the "community" to the point of nauseating over-analyzation. On top of that, the front page hardly ever changes.
So now I check Slashdot everyday, and K5 only when I feel hopeless bored.
What if tomorrow, Iran sued Wal-Mart demanding they take all copies of the Swimsuit Issue of SI, Kathy Ireland calendars, etc... off the shelf?
Then Wal-Mart would likely remove its physical presence from Iran (if it has one) and ignore the ruling.
What if tomorrow, Chnia sued demanding that Best Buy, CompUSA, etc... stop selling Linux?
Then Best Buy, CompUSA, etc... would likely remove their physical presence from China (if they have one) and ignore the ruling.
Why didnt yahoo "remove their physical presence from France?" Your answer to these hypothetical questions are trite and ill-informed. You can spout off all you want about the victims and memorials of WWII, but the fact still remains that the French rolled over when Hitler came knocking...deal with it.
I'm afraid you are the only one here misinformed. Go download the reader and see for yourself. Or if you are too lazy, go back and re-read some of the earlier posts...many people have shown this is not a hoax, even going so far to take their own screenshots.
I'm 23 too, but somehow I was old enough to download my first copy of Doom off a local BBS in NJ. Man, I still remember that day clearly:) My doors game of choice was always LORD...I hope that makes its way to open source sometime.
First, using the phrase "security by obscurity" when that's not the issue *is* trolling, whether you realized it or not.
Second, it's obvious that you aren't a reader of bugtraq. Bugtraq encompasses *all* vendor security issues, be that *BSD, Linux, Unix, firewalls, web appliances, etc. Without MS, Bugtraq is still the same and will continue full disclosure.
Third, MS is still writing security bulletins, but the problem is that they are only publishing it on a web page and sending a link to Bugtraq. Elias took the info on that web page and cut and pasted it into an email for Bugtraq. That's when MS got pissy about "copyright" crap. Not having the info in the body of the email is bad because MS is not held accountable to what they say.
and one final thing, nobody at security focus "jumps at a MS whim." Please...
and 99% of admins would have no clue there was a problem with their web/dns/email/etc server. No, bugtraq allows the diligent to stay on top of security issues. Only a lazy admin wouldn't read it, and for them, removing bugtraq wouldn't help.
blah blah blah, YHBT and all the rest of it...but I still have something to say to your (+1 bonusized) troll. This has nothing do to with "Security through Obscurity." The issue is that MS stopped putting the security info into the body of the bugtraq emails, and when Elias cut and pasted it into one, MS went ballistic. So now the MS Bulletins can't be read offline easily, nor can they be archived like every other bugtraq email. Not a good move, IMO.
If tinkering around with products for the sake of learning and experimenting is "zealotry", then I pray for more zealots. Attitudes like yours are illogical at best, and accomplish nothing but suffocating creativity.
I read the irc logs back when this all started, and the story has always been Signal 11 gave the account to someone worthy enough to burn up all the karma. Hate to say it, Michael, but after reading these posts, you have really over-stepped your role as/. author. Last time I checked, moderation was the system used to "censor" posts, not the taking over of accounts. This whole thing reeks of a powertrip gone awry. Shame on you.
hmm, running a telnet daemon on a server and using a telnet client are 2 different things, dumbass. You'll always have a need for a telnet client as long as you are wasting your time MUDs and other lame-ass games.
yup, it's sad but true. once all these linux stocks collapse, my poor redhat server will cease to function. it's a shame too, my uptime had been doing so well.
yeah, I've heard that commercial on the radio, and nearly choked listening to it. Can you say "load of cheesy propaganda BS"? "Everyone who's cool is registering.tv domains" pu-leeze.
I suppose your talking about other devices, such as routers and switches that you can use telnet with? Well, guess what genius, those mfgs could use ssh instead of telnet, or at the very least allow both (have port 22 and 23 available). Try again next time and save those +2 bonuses for when you have something 1/2-way insightful.
I won't stop saying telnet can be replaced with ssh because it's not true. I removed telnet from my Linux server over a year ago and have not had any problems connecting from anywhere in the world. Besides, it's such a great feeling to run a sniffer and see your ssh session nothing more than grabled characters.
Please show me the rule that says "you are not allowed to say dumb things in the channel". Hmm, didn't think so. You see, the problem was that those paranoid freaks thought saying things like "Rendition is the way" = attack on the network, a flood even. I'm sorry, but floods involve bots and automated scripts, not a couple idiots typing moronic sentences on their keyboard. Like I've already said, a kickban was all that was necessary. Take a look at the log again, oh self-righteous one, and see that some people in #debian saw the humor in it. It's humorless nerds like you that make things no fun anymore...
Oh, and FYI, I did apologize for the distruption, but I still resent the way things were handled...

Next time you want to watch your favorite TV show at a friends house, I'll be laughing my ass off as you realize you've been suckered.

Please point me to where this "giant war" is exactly. I must have missed it.

There are always four sides to every story: your side, their side, the truth, and what really happened.
What exactly is the difference between "the truth" and "what really happened?"
