Unless of course the audio/video can only be played in their specially made software. Oh wait, that's exactly what's going on here, you have to download software to get access.

  3. Just Pointing Out on NBC Direct Launches With Free Downloads · · Score: 1

In the article it does say they are rolling out support for the other platforms soon, its just a matter of time. So it's not like another BBC, the software for other platforms is coming soon. Which frankly I think is perfectly fair, they were working to a tight deadline before christmas so they've fulfilled their needs for the largest target market and now they're moving on to the smaller operating systems.

Yes, the servers are expensive peices of kit, but I think frankly, its more likely that there is specific data for a specific site that is being stolen rather than just some hardware, and if thats true, they shoudl be hiding the friggin servers rather than leaving them sitting round "ooo rob me rob me rob me!" You gotta ask, who's the target?

That does not mean I am a peer to peer user therefore I buy music too. I am a music lover therefore I do BOTH, the summary seems very swung to one side which is simply false.

You've never used an online media distribution system, its a term they've made up, did they define it for the court? If they didn't they are referring to something they madeup. It's like walking into court and decalring from now on, you will be known as willy wonka. Just because they've made up this term and decided to use it, doesn't mean its a real word or a technical term. If it uses that term in a legal document have the case thrown out for having made up terms in it. Either that or contend that term refers to a small African Elephant that you've never had contact with (hell, it could mean anything)

Of course a third party tweak isn't going to be compatible, plus Macs are the only operating system I know where a third party app could actually take down the whole system during an upgrade. Wisen up, stick with pure apple or switch to linux.

  14. Re:Great, more Ajax on How-To On Ajax Code To Show Movies and Slide Shows · · Score: 1

The main problem with this cunning plan of yours of course, is, we've been there, smart people built sites to provide information, it worked really well. It worked so well infact, that it attracted companies, who attracted the public, and as with all things, the collective IQ dropped to zero. The reason we need AJAX is because the number of webpages around is increasing hugely, while the amount of content to put therein, is dwindling, to a point where sites like PC World take 15 pages on one of those stick-it-in-a-template-and-publish top 15 articles. If there was no flashy code attracting your attention to how the creator of the page looks 20% like sienna miller then people would be able to compile all these sites into one page. In fact if we're going down that road, due to the way facebook works currently, you have to go to each person's profile to see them say the same thing over and over, but a simple database where they put their interests in, could provide a way for you to input the 20 people's names you want to know about and you'll get a tally of how many of these people are in fact My Chemical Romances' biggest fan ever. IMHO companies are too afraid that people may not scroll down, so they put everything on a new page, and too many people are allowed to be suckered into social networking while they're relentless pounded with popup ads directed demonstrating just how much google has been spying on you, but fortunately, the adds look really good now- We've got some really cool AJAX to code them with ;)

Yeah, not buyin it. A similar thing happened with electricity, when everyone bought TVs everyone bought computers etc. suddenly of course power usage sky rocketed, and lots of people said, well this is going to be the rate of growth now. Of course, with that, as it is with this, everyone go their TVs and then the demand levelled out, with this, everyone will start downloading videos, and the bandwith usage will level out. Yes, soon we'll need some new routers, but the problem isn't permanent, and it isn't something that we should trust a salesman to deal with.

Actually, it seems like a very good strategy, constantly upgrading the console, you aren't making such big losses on the high end parts, and within a short time you start outdoing your competitors. Does it not seem odd to you, these companies that make a console once in 5 years, wait for it to be completely out of date, and then make a new one that they start by making a hideous loss on.

If you're an American, then look very closely at your own system before attacking ours, if you aren't then please, go, research your own country anyway, because there is no government where bad things aren't happening, and instead of sitting on a forum attacking another country's system go away and fix your own first please. We may loose small amounts of freedom, but there are countries where they don't have free schooling, free health care, a minimum wage, support for the unemployed and one of the riches populations in the world. I accept things are getting worse, but I know where we started from. Tell me, if the man you referred to running towards an underground train with a backpack on shortly after severeal suicide bombings had been a suicide bomber too, would you like to explain to the hundreds of casualties, deaths and relatives why the armed police there to protect them didn't shoot? The percentages say, it was better for that man to die than to risk the hundreds, and as a result we also live a more concious society of these incidents which in itself helps protect us.

I live in london , used to be known as londinium when the Romans invaded 2000 years ago. America is a new place, get used to it, and the cities were built on very logical plans, and things like san fransisco burning to the ground meant even those old cities have been semi-replaced. Of course no city will have been completely prepared for the technology boom, but that's not exclusive to the USA and certainly not for the reasons you state.

Seriously, microsoft wants to take this market. If they really want this, why aren't they pushing the boundaries, middle of the road design, middle of the road capacities, and a mediocre implementation of their killer feature. Seriously, how hard would it be for them to stick in a 250gb hard disk, keep the product small, sell it for a loss, and wait for higher uptake and lower costs whilst keeping their products at the high end price ($300). No one seems to play the long game anymore, so Apple never gets challenged.
