i>right, and i wonder how many people actually -pay- for Winzip? Not to sound like an asshole or anything, but if they didn't want you to crack winzip, couldn't they at least try to make it hard to crack? (hint: it's dead simple to crack winzip)

You don't need more than 90 MHz for both of the above. Well actually, if his computer is an x86 based system, then 90MHz is not enough to play decent (160kbps+) MP3s...

I'm not knocking college, it's fine for those who cannot succeed without it. Not trying to be an asshole or anything, but why does everyone view college as a way of getting a career, often completely ignoring to actually learn anything whilst there?

I hope the authors publish abroad in a country where the copyright laws are more reasonable. They should leak the paper out to a few places on the net and when the RIAA comes running, say they were hacked!

The point of my post was that if you have no guns, but free speech, you can still work against the government somewhat openly, whilst if you have no free speech, but guns, the government can simply lock up anyone who says anything that's even remotely anti-government, thereby reducing the risk/chance of an uprising...

Tell me, if they took away the right to bear arms, then took away your freedom of speech, how would you get it back? And why should they allow you to even try to start an uprising if they first removed your free speech?

This is actually even worse for the manufacturer. Basically all of the hardware is sold at a loss, and if people are buying units just to play pirated games, they loose even more money. This is only true if they don't buy any games at all. But if they do buy some games, then all of a sudden there's an income that wouldn't have been there otherwise...

I believe that in WWII Germany was actually Japan's ally, and Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. And in WWI there's always the Lusitania (right boat?) So they weren't totally unprovoked. On a relate note I would like to point out that I think that everyone should just stop fighting already... /Mikael Jacobson

From the way that you are writing DIVX, I'm guessing that you have gotten DIVX and DivX confused, the former being the bad thing(tm) and the latter being a MPEG4 hack...
2)The market will be bigger, as China and India will be superpowers. This will render the crowded marketplace idea obsolete. And you don't think that a larger market will also have a larger number of companies competing for market share?
or until MS figures a way to make something like notepad require a P4, with 512MB RAM, and a 3D card to run... Make 2048 or so copies of the text buffer in memory, then encrypt with 16384 bit encryption, decrypt all copies of buffer every 500 cycles or so just to compare them and make sure that none of them have gone corrupt. Perhaps you could even use three-dimensional fonts???
When the stuff you ordered comes over the border it gets taxed. Only if they look inside the package. And I have yet to have that happen to me (thank smurgnarf, I could never afford paying import taxes...)
It has happened to me too, I recently installed doom II from some old floppies, worked just fine. Then I had to go through something like a dozen new floppies to make one(!) usable boot disk. So my guess is that new floppies just aren't as good as old ones (after all, they don't have to, it's not like people use them as much now as they used to)

I saw some statistics on how large a percentage of the population that had broadband access at home, the US came in fourth (after Sweden,Norway and Finland i think) That's right, the rest of the world isn't just developing countries...
