Sure I use to have my house fully connected with cable. I loved it. Six years ago I decided to move to the country. Having the belief system that America was great when it came to internet connectivity I just assumed that where ever I moved I could plug into high speed internet.
Not the case, in rural Florida. In fact, I am paying $130+ a month for business internet services via Hughes.net. While waiting for a page to load I was able to load my cloths in the wash, collect the mail, feed my horse and brush my teeth. This is business class folks!
The chance of any other competing service entering the market here is null. So while the city folks are enjoying there cheap access and complaining about their bandwidth, I am blowing at clouds to go away and being held hostage by the mafiosoâ(TM)s of the internet world.
I am definitely voting for Nader this year. The sad truth is that a majority of people either believe the bull they hear and/or are too afraid to vote their conscience. Either Obama or, McCain will push our economy into the nearest ditch. They are working for corporations not the American people. A majority of Americans are still in La La land, unfortunately. Hopefully they will evolve to the point where they feel comfortable standing behind their singular choice. Rather than forming their choices by corporation driven propaganda.
Where I live, our only option is Satellite or, Dial-up. I live a mile down the road from where a other phone company has DSL availability. Which is always a thought that fumes me. Satellite is great when I need to download something rather large. Though, it has to be planned ahead due to the clouds, moisture, planes overhead destroying any hope for a signal. Since I SSH quiet a bit, dial-up is perfect. Typing via Satellite is to insane too even attempt. There was a time, in the past where I had Cable. Right now I pay $130 for Satellite internet because there is no competition. Heck $50, $60, even $130 for cable would be a God Send. I can't wait till I can use my satellite dish for target practice.
I presently live in North Florida. Compared to the west coast, it is much like a third world country. These people are really into their religious beliefs. At least on Sunday. I have never seen so many alcoholics in my life. Prejudice groups run rampant here, as well. One of the religious groups I love to pick on is the 'End Timers'. A religious cult.
It does not surprise me in the least that local folks here in Florida would have a problem with the teachings of evolution. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if I had a cross burning in my yard at this very moment! In some cases, their sense of 'God' is all they have! Some even speak to their religious leader(s) before making any life decisions. Mostly everything is closed on Sundays in town.
In all, I feel that these people just can't or, don't know how to step away from this fantasy of a God. Afraid? Lack of aptitude?
For those such as myself, whom do not believe in a god and/or being responsible for our very existence, all of this nonsense can be quite aggravating. I guess, without being too incredibly rude, I feel I am a part of a human group advancing on a evolutionary chain.
If I could choose a time to be born, a time to live my life - It would be a time when all did not have a need for a God, Super Natural Being, A Cosmic Magician.....
I host sites! When I register domains on behalf of my customers I always put their contact information under their name. My business name may show as the 'Technical' contact - ONLY! They paid for it -- they own it! Should I go bust, the domain owner can go to the registrar's site to log-in and manage their site(s) using the same username and password. The domain in question here obviously went into unpaid mode. Where it was then immediately picked up by another person. Unfortunately, this other person is in the business of purchasing domains to profit by their resale value. On the flip side I have heard in the past of a webmaster harvesting a domain from a customer. As it has happened to one of my customers. This should be illegal! If you pay for a domain, it should be yours! Period!
