  1. Make everything in 1 window on The GIMP UI Redesign · · Score: 1

I really dont like how GIMP makes each toolbar a new window, it clutters up the task bar. Each toolbar should be within the program itself similar to how PhotoShop handles this. Thats one thing that has always bugged me.

  2. There are more choices than this on PHP5 Vs. CakePHP Vs. RubyOnRails? · · Score: 1

If you use PHP4 you can use CakePHP or CodeIgniter If you use PHP5 you can use Symfony, CakePHP, CodeIgniter or the Zend Framework. CodeIgniter has good documentation and its 100% complete unlike CakePHP. http://codeigniter.com/ Of course PHP has many more frameworks than the ones I mentioned, there are probably well over 15, but those are the ones with the biggest amount of users. From what I've read the Zend Framework is more like a big library and lets you pick and choose what you want with no set structure. I've seen tutorials where others can use the Zend Framework with CakePHP, Symfony and CodeIgniter. The pros to sticking with PHP or a PHP framework is that you probably already know the language. Need security tips for PHP? Visit Chris Shiftlett's blog (he does a good job covering several issues, plus there are books on Apache Security and PHP Security, get them and read them). http://shiflett.org/ I dont see PHP dying anytime soon, there are way too many open source apps written in it, plus tons of new stuff is coming out, like SimplePie, and other good stuff. PHP Developer's web site has some good news on it. http://www.phpdeveloper.org/ Django and Rails have a downside to you having to learn a language and a framework and most often at the same time which makes things confusing for awhile. Django isn't 1.0 yet so while its stable, its still undergoing changes and nothing is exactly set in stone until the 1.0 milestone. Unfortunately there arent any Python books for just Web Development, so that makes it more of a challenge. Rails has a definate lead over Django, since there are well over 100 books on Rails and only like 2 planned for Django. Of course Rails was got more hype earlier on and came out before Django, plus the screencasts helped promote it, a lot. Pick whichever language or framework you want, there are pros and cons to them all.

  3. Slashdot needs another namespace in their RSS feed on Slashdot: Podcasts, IM, Improved Discussions · · Score: 1

Since Slashdot has a filtering system that lets you filter news based on whether it hit the frontpage or not, Slashdot really needs to add in a option for that in their feed. I tried to find an email or contact us page but it seems they took it down. Even Digg keeps their contact information on their page.

I posted on my blog a list of Ergonomic Keyboards and Mice links I had collected, here is what I had:

Enablemart - This seems to be a third party seller but I've yet to find out who makes all the equipment they sell
3M Ergonomic Products - Notable is the Ergonomic Mouse that looks kind of like a joystick
Kinesis Corporation - Another third party place that sells ergonomic items (they have chairs also)
Perific - Their main product is the Wireless Dual Mouse
Evoluent - They are known for the VerticalMouse
Contour Design - Best known for the RollerMouse and the PerfitMouse (Contour Mouse)
Combimouse - Combination Keyboard and Mouse
Adesso - They make a lot of products
Aerobic Mouse - Looks a lot like the VerticalMouse except it has a plastic area to hold your hand
Nohands Mouse - Control your mouse with your feet
Zero Tension Mouse - seems like a mix between the VerticalMouse and 3M's Ergonomic Mouse

  5. Digital Fails so much though on Death of the Button? Analog vs. Digital · · Score: 1

Thats why cars in the 90s got rid of Electronic Displays for all your gauges and the AC and went back to anolog readouts and buttons you could turn. My mom had a Chrysler New Yorker that had all digital readouts and one time on a long trip everything went black. All the readouts were digital (gas, speed, temp, oil, odometer, battery). It wasnt a fuse that went out, or a loose cable, the whole thing had to be replaced. Ive also seen stereos with electronic buttons fail so many times its not funny. I always look for analog switches as they are less likely to break, and when they do its a little easier to fix.
