Good post, now please remember that next time people like yourself hijack some linux related news and go completely offtopic with "lol lunix sucks because of the shit brown unbongo theme".
Yes, well done you found us all out. Obviously the user group of slashdot is a borg think tank which all hold the same view point. It's obvious that the people who think it's ok to download propitiatory software are the same people that are GNU warriors. Oh wait, that makes no sense now does it? Why would someone who uses free software download windows illegally?
I have a different theory. You're a fucking idiot.
No because Pulse Audio fan boys won't let their god send of a sound server become irrelevant. Now that Pulse Audio has become a dominate player in all the major distros it has fucked over Linux audio for a long time to come.
That's the problem. You can play music but you can't play games, or voice chat because the lag is just horrible. In some cases pulse audio adds a 5 second lag on Skype. I've had to resort to using my other computer with an older version of ubuntu without Pulse Audio because of how shitty it is.
No it doesn't. I just installed 9.04 and I have to specifically go to the restricted drivers application and check the box. I got no notification about installing restricted drivers.
Bug fixes? Sure, they did all of that, but that's already to be expected.
I disgaree, when selecting a quick match game it still boots you back to the main menu saying that the auto selected game is "full". It would take 5 seconds to code if (gamefull) { quickmatch(); } or something similar for when you hit the quick match button but here we are still lots of lame clicking.
The last update has screwed up the game for me. A fix that makes rendering better for Multicore machines has given me a problem where every 5 minutes the FPS will drop badly for 10 seconds which never existed before.
They still haven't fixed voice chat issues, for example when in the lobby the push to talk button makes some people crash.
The only thing they have really done is fix map exploits and even here they've failed in some respects for example the stupid room next to the elevator on no mercy and hiding under the pipes on Death Toll. Places which don't exist in the survival modes because it's lame. The map fixes though is such simple things to do. In all the cases all they've really done is add a box here, remove an air vent there it's not difficult stuff to do.
However like what normally happens whenever some Linux exploit comes out. It's something ridiculously trivial to fix and the windows crowd on slashdot lap it up like it is an "end of the world" scenario. Congratulations on continuing the trend.
Adopting has many more problems which you're sugar coating over. It's obvious you have no idea what you're talking about.
Adopting is expensive, very expensive compared to IVF. Secondly it's difficult to adopt a baby because everyone wants to do that. Thirdly if you adopt a kid who is +4 years old they're most likely going to be fucked in the head (why do you think they're in the adoption process otherwise?).
My friend has taken care of many different children over the decades which pass through the adoption process. It's not like anything you're making it out to be.
the ipod accounts for the majority of all personal audio players now
Only in the US, and even there I don't believe you are correct. Most people have crappy mp3 players. I know it's difficult to believe however if you left your basement.. narh, nevermind.
I just want to put in an AOL "me too". My girlfriend just bought a Samsung player too. I am guessing it's the exact same player as your girlfriend has.
or a single sound library (so it's not possible to run Skype, Flash and Rhythmbox at the same time, for example).
Oh Mr Coward, how wrong you are. It's a simply matter of adding "padsp" to the beginning of the menu item. So "padsp skype" will make skype work in pulse audio.
The same can be done with WINE. "padsp winecfg", click on the audio tab and select the OSS driver, then exit. Now when starting your wine app type "padsp wine appname.exe"
Unfortunately it's incompatable with the linux kernel license (not to claim which is more free, or who's to blame). There's a fuse project, but fuse projects don't tend to go in places where zfs does.
Given how 90% of the comments on here are about how many problems there are with ZFS I don't think "unfortunately" is the correct word.

Obviously you've never used Oracle.
So which is it? Nevermind don't answer, I already know that no one uses that piece of shit ALSA API.
eh no, he's whining because he open sourced it and lost money from previous customers who now aren't paying.
No mr Anon, it doesn't work on anyone's system. You can polish a turd all you want but it's still a turd.
They should dump it. Building an application to manage the sound API is completely backwards and makes linux look poorly designed.

Great, but it doesn't happen for me on 9.04, there's no icon in the taskbar.

RTFA. According to it, OSSv4 can do this too and many other things.
You have failed to read the article which states that OSS v4 is open source and performs much better then ALSA.

Your first mistake. He says skype works and recording doesn't. Read next time idiot.

I never said Microsoft was worse. You made that up.
No, no they wouldn't.

"SF Astrology Examiner" as in someone who predicts your future from looking at star charts. In other words a woo woo magician.

I don't understand what lunix (little unix) has to do with Linux at all.
