Not that many people are computer literate. Give them an OS that isn't as user friendly as Windows, and they won't be able to figure it out.

oh how did anyone survive before the wonder years of windows.

Your post is typical troll material. You neglect to mention the many years before windows was released where people (including many women) would use computers much like they do now.

The only difference is the amount of graphics used.

Your problems aren't in anyway related to this woman who had no idea how to use computers in the first place hence why she was taking classes to learn.

She made a genuine mistake of thinking she needed Microsoft word and to use a disk from the ISP to resolve her problems.

Now that she knows she can use Open Office and that she can just plug in her internet her problems are solved and she is using Ubuntu.

For Dell support to offer a replacement machine over such a lame excuse they'd probably get a talking to about wasting resources.

I could understand if she had genuine problems such as running a windows game or something however it seems to be more to do with having no technical knowledge of how to operate a computer. I mean she's taking computer classes for a reason.

Sorry, I meant add a footer. However the thing which I think both OO.o and Word could do better is footers and headers.

It should be really simple to divide your document up into chapters and have the page count + footer start on page 2 leaving page 1 free for a cover, etc.

Although it's possible to do it feels hackish and too difficult when it should be a simple job.

I've never been able to figure out how to have different headers (chapter 1, chapter 2, etc) in a document.

It quickly gets boring. The only games are insta gib on shitty maps like a recreation of the old UT level so it just one big lame sniper match, which I quickly got bored of in UT.

It's true there are some good maps however they're all ruined by having areas where once one side is in, they've practically won the match in capture & hold mode. The example that comes off the top of my head being the Japanese castle level.

The maps can also be as ugly as they are good looking, because the whole world is made from squares some things have unnatural looks such as ladders. On some levels the stairs could really use some improvement and it is possible however no one has bothered to update the map so that you can walk up stairs rather then having to jump.

The player character really needs updating from the horrible looking short orc to something worth looking at.

After 100+ hours of play I wish there was a game mode which was more slow paced and implemented something like Americas Army, CS, DoD, Left for Dead... Anything really. There are simply too many OSS FPS which cater to fast paced insta gib game play and I am getting sick of it.

All this is doing is fracturing their hold on the desktop which means that software developers are less likely to provide binarys specific to all three distributions.

As usual the majority are on XP so nothing as going to change because people are statisifed with what they have and the Desktop will continue to decay like IE has done.

Windows 7 is just a desperate move to provide a product that the public won't reject after the vista failure.

There is nothing innovative about it. The only difference I have noticed in my 4 years of using it so far is that if spreadsheet crashes then you can say goodbye to writer and whatever document you had open too...

oh, and the menu options have been re-arranged so I can never remember how to edit the footer of my documents.

The only reason I continue to use it is becauese I have a deadline and no time to invest in looking at other options for ubuntu.
