  1. Former depressed misfit/outsider writes... on Slashdot Meets The Pinkerton Corp. · · Score: 1

As pathetic adolescents we've all been "The Outsider" and considered ourselves different, excluded, misunderstood etc. With some it results in a tendency towards angst-ridden existentialist literature, others get lots of guns/ammo and shoot up their classmates. In the UK we don't have the latter option available to us, perhaps THAT is what U.S . society should be concentrating on...

Right. "Dog bites Man". "Fat Nerd marries Unhinged Girl" it's lovely, and I must get round to doing it sometime, with the missus. Love, vilms

Yeah I didn't read all the way through, but I think I understand the general drift of what yer saying. Unfortunately I can't get past Geller *wanting* to be the definitive "spoons guy". Nice one Uri, it has made you a lot of money, and fame and girls and I would be inclined to defend it for 97 mill if I'd thought of it first. It puts me in mind of the knife-wielding Cassavetes guy from "The Dirty Dozen" duh.

No, I don't agree; "business.com" is too generic; linux, lego and sloppylargetitties are a little more specific, eh? The smart entrepreneur knows that business.com is a waste of time because it won't be where the action is; the weight of $7.5 mil ensures that. I bet I could buy office supplies there in six months tho'

No let's over-react and flame everyone in the republic. Oops, okay. This strikes me as a bit of legal-ese that covers Corel's corporate-hidebound ass. Forget about it. Next!

mmmm, yes. I see that it's a funny thing. But it's not. That. Funny. Look, your earnest explanation is actually funnier (or maybe that should be "risible"). Don't let's fall out over this, you complete twat* *joke!

  9. Re:More spindles, more simultanious reads on Pros & Cons of Different RAID Solutions · · Score: 1

or "simultaneous". whatever. Fortunately, on RAID systems that I have experienced (AMI MegaRAID and some of the Mylex offerings), the 64k block is an "idiot" setting; whew! Personally, I've found both Mylex and AMI to offer good products with *reasonable* support (Mylex above and beyond the call, when they really had no obligation to weigh in with assistance) and I'll be going back for some more of that when my budget allows. As for these shitcart IDE arrays; I know they're cheap and offer bundles of storage -and the diff between one of these and a SCSI job may be a nice holiday somewhere- but I have had a very bad experience with one (well, actually, two and then three) units that couldn't do the job it/they was/were meant to. My bad luck, or this is a despicable case of a "RAID-style toy: Not meant for serious use"? Finally, don't RAID 0 unless you can RAID 10!

Indeed, though I wouldn't quite put it that they are "mostly in bed with Microsoft as much as ZD", nearer to truth is that they don't really care one way or the other, as long as the corporates keep subscribing to executive summaries, forecasts and reviews: At home, used as tearsheets for the kitten's litter tray, is the PriceWaterhouseCoopers technology review for 1998; this weighty tome has duff forecasts in all fields of technology; a recent internal review has discouraged further use of these analysts.

It doesn't matter. In fact "everything is going to be okay". Here in the old world, Tandy is a byword for tacky product and the fact that they will now have large instore Microsoft concessions will only serve to reinforce this view and -hopefully- destroy what's left of Microsoft's cred. Heheh, you have to admit, it's a good match! I will still visit Tandy, to laugh at their hopeless, shitcart, "Realistic" branded goods and the queue of low-rent idiots that patronise the store, God rot the lot of them.
