I've successfully debunked the original point - that TIFF has name recognition. The average user doesn't know TIFF, so the name recognition point is moot.
The "average user" in this case is hardly people who "know HTML." The "average user" of a high-end digital camera is... a photographer. Most photographers make ample use of the TIFF format, thus... Name recognition among the appropriate demographic.
As far as I'm concerned, Earth: Final Conflict did. It finished its story and and wrapped up pretty much all of its loose threads.
Too bad they kept making a show calledEarth: Final Conflict after they got rid of the Taelons and replaced them with heavy-metal vampires from outer space.
What is comedy relief doing in a serious space drama?
Have you even seen Episodes 4, 5, and 6? C3P0 and R2D2's main purpose was as comic relief, and Chewbacca and Han's relationship was nearly as humorous. The Star Wars movies have always been lighthearted.
Most (geeky) people that run Windows at home don't pay for most of their copies, at least the Windows using people that I know don't. Sure they may have a legit OEM copy from when they bought a laptop or something, but all the rest just copy it. Same with MS Office. I don't see your price argument very compelling when comparing Linux to Windows users.
This has little to do with his example and actually reinforces his argument. Copying commercial software isn't a rebellious blow for Free Software, it's piracy. The "Free" in Free Software has little to do with the price of the software, it has to do with its openness. I think it's safe to say that even if Microsoft gave away Windows XP, it would hardly be free. All your example did was make the (geeky) people you know look cheap.
"'Industrial' music, (which doesn't exist today, which is why I know quote the term)"
It doesn't? Huh, guess that new Skinny Puppy (along with a new member from Throbbing Gristle) album coming out in a few months doesn't exist either. Nor does Android Lust, or I, Parasite, or any of the other amazing industrial acts still working today.

The "little chips of freedom" you're so afraid of giving up are the ability to steal. People these days are so busy proving Hobbes right about his opinion of human nature that they don't stop to consider why his "social contract" is necessary in the first place.
As someone whose livelihood depends on his writing, I can tell you that a secure way of distributing electronic media is vital to publishers and authors, both big and small, before they consider the internet anything more than a playground. Password-protected documents are, to me, a much better choice for content distribution than the alternatives, where it can only be used with one e-book reader and/or system.
You do not have a right to access content that you do not own. Ownership implies that you were given the password to access the data.
You don't present any valid reason that it is a bad thing other than your reactionary comment about the DMCA. Care to give some reasons that password-protected files are a bad thing?
Interestingly, both Entourage v.X and Outlook Express running in classic mode seem to be immune to the "begin " bug.

Not really. Oh, yeah, and Gunsmith Cats is definitely anime. If you're into vehicular anime, try to track down a copy of "Riding Bean"; it's (s'far as I can recall) a prequel to GsC
No, It's a sequel. It's further down the line, as Rally has only recently begun interacting with Bean in the manga, which Dark Horse is publishing over here. -----
