I'll bet the author of this article was born after 1980 and didn't experience these things first hand like many of us did. This is another article in a series where kids discover older technology and wonder how we got anything done.
Let's have an article about the room at General Motors in the 50s where the 100+ clerks handled accounts payable invoices. The guy I talked to was responsible for vendors starting with JA through JG. Do we really care?
Actually, I had to start over because I'm used to the wireless network having its own address pool. With Time Capsule, the wireless network uses the same address pool as the wired network (by passing wireless DHCP requests through to my SonicWALL firewall where the DHCP server is located). Too cool!
I have been paying sales/use tax on my Ohio income tax form for years. It usually runs about $10 - $15 per year, partly because most of my Internet purchases are already taxed (a LOT of companies have a presence in Ohio). It's not a big deal, and people who cheat on this are probably cheating somewhere else too.
Ohio has been working with several other states to standardize sales/use tax collection. For example, the tax is assessed based on the delivery location, not the sales location (important for Internet/mail order sales). Shipping/handling charges are taxed. Ohio has a Web site that will tell you the jurisdiction and tax rate for any location in the state. There is no reason this simplification can't include every state.
I like the Tea Party people like Michele Bachmann who decry government spending but line up for their share of welfare, in the form of farm subsidies in her case.
Sorry, it may not happen this time. Just don't make the Aug. 3 Social Security payment and there will be plenty of money to pay the debt and interest and not default. The right is pointing out that default is not a given, you just have to change your spending priorities.
And Apple allows the fabricator to sell to anyone after the exclusive period (six months, a year?) is over. So Apple is benefiting but also doing the whole industry a favor. Just because Apple wins doesn't mean everyone else loses. Android isn't losing much, is it?
Stuxnet 2 is coming!
This is a uninformed comment by an AC so I'm not responding.
Here's a link to what appears to be the original article. Really, /., please stop supporting the people who just copy from others.
Yes, on a Power7 system, you can get them on a system that costs a lot less than $200,000.

I reserve the right to violate my tag line.
Mod parent up. I have no points right now.
Sorry, but the default should be to back up everything. Your plan would make it too easy to skip something important.
The editors should standardize this. The article on Stuxnet from Wired was correctly linked the other day.

The tax is regressive in that poor people pay a higher percentage of their income in sales tax than rich people do.

Why would that require rewriting the whole codebase? Isn't SQL standard?
Prediction: The stock market is going to go down. There, you're all set.
It's not just children she feeds on, it's rich, white, female children she favors. The richer and the whiter the better.
Isn't it time to look for an alternative to Cisco? I left them after a customer paid $2,500 for a 16-port switch.
It's a bigger loss for science the longer it takes to get it into space.
It may not be new, but Apple is doing it really well.
You enjoy dealing with rootkits? Hmm...

The four big labels, in reaching a deal with Apple, have set the standard. The other thousand labels (really?) just need to sign similar agreements.
They looked at Computer Associates, saw how successful it was, and decided to copy it.
